Breel Embolo | Signed for Schalke

This guy is a BEAST. I hope it's true. Although he's primarily a striker he can play on the right and do a good job there.

Been watching him for a while. One of the most exciting prospects in Europe surely. No idea about his professionalism but if Jose wants he must have it.

Would be a good signing for us. Hopefully, there's something solid in this news. Never watch him before but according to YouTube clips, he's a powerful, technically good and very direct player. Atleast we don't need to worry about physical side of the game, also what very surprising me is the fact that he looks really good with linking with players.

Tbh deep down I don't think this source will pan out and we won't sign Embolo, but I better start bringing a spare pair of trousers to work just incase because if we do end up signing him and I don't have some backup trou nearby, i'll have to sit in trousers more rigid than glass til the end of that working day.. Plus I just can't face another disciplinary for that kinda 'incident' in work again.

Like many other posters I haven't seen a whole lot of this fella, but he sounds like an exciting prospect. If he's Martial-esque, albeit not quite at that level yet, but favours the right side of the field we could be a force to be reckoned with going forward next season.

I like the fact the players we are going for are young, tall, strong and pacey.

There's only been one source saying we're interested :boring:. Any other decent sources reporting on it?

His song would be great with people confused how to pronounce his name. We should sign him for that alone.

The only way we are not getting Embolo is if we are actually not in for him, and then it will be Mourinho's decision to leave it be for the time being, and I will be okay with that.

The ones going "Omgz, he will never sign for us, the minnows, when he can sign for international giants Energydrink Leipzig" are just buying too much into the fashionable "we are not attractive anymore" spin.

Surely there can be such thing as too much youth if you want success before 2020?

There's nothing in any of other papers about our interest in Embolo except the that single Swiss one. It's more likely the agent trying to get RB Leipzig to up thier offer for him.

But, there's small possibility that with Mourinho in, we might not be leaking as much transfer information to the press as we did under Moyes and Van Gaal and that's why our interest in him seems to be out of the blue. Pretty similar to what happened with Bailly

MEN article/profile said we were interested in March.

Good news, hope it's true! Signings like this are the best ones

So @Bayern_Basel from the newbs just sent me this information since I had quite a few posts in the Newbies forum a few months ago asking about Breel Embolo:

"Hey guys,

as I’m living in Basel and being a FC Basel fan (not only FC Basel though), I hope I can tell you a bit more about this possible transfer.

20 Minuten belongs a bit to the yellowish press in Switzerland (not really yellow but yellowish) but in my eyes this time this source is very reliable because they got their own information which they usually don’t. In the article it’s written that Embolo is in talks with ManUnited, in one of the headlines they say it’s almost a done deal.

To be honest I think there would have been better (easier) possibilities for Embolo because Mourinho is known not to rely on youngsters but let’s hope the best. I’m still a bit sceptical because I wouldn’t understand Embolo moving to such a big club now (and especially after his interview talking about the Premier League) and I could still imagine that this transfer won’t happen and it’s just a rumour to convince RB Leipzig of certain conditions but I’m quite sure ManUtd would pay a bigger fee than Leipzig so it might also be that FC Basel likes to see Embolo in the Premier League if it would be an option for him because Basel never pushes a player to join a certain club. His advisor is Shaqiri’s brother and he’s in my opinion nor a very good neither a very intelligent one.

20 Minuten are very convincing though so I would almost start congratulating.

About the player:

Embolo is a very clever player, he is always able to surprise his opponent and often surprises me watching him. He is quick and can play almost in every offensive position but he is played most of his games as a right winger or as a striker/second striker. Physically he is very strong, it is hard to separate him from the ball, he has a good technique and a good feeling for possible chances, so all in all he really seems to be quite similar to Martial, although in my opinion Embolo is a bit more tricky but also a bit more unorthodox in his style of play. Also sometimes you notice that he is still very very young, in a positive as well as in a negative way. He is very dynamic and fights for every ball (sometimes he reminds me of Thomas Müller in terms of cleverness) but sometimes he is a bit too hectic. Embolo helps also defensively and as he is a fighter, he also runs quite a lot. His weaknesses are his average headers and he could also improve his long range shots but I’m sure he will.

All in all this would be a very good deal for Manchester United and a huge exclamation mark on the transfer market.

Btw he follows Arsenal and Chelsea on his private Facebook profile. No Manchester United yet."

Thanks for the info @Bayern_Basel

United should go for him, if there is a chance of acquiring him.

Embolo is super fit, powerful and possesses great athleticism – three qualities that most strikers need to have in order to succeed in the premier league. He keeps a really cool head in front of the goal and is a very competent dribbler. Good scorer, one would say we have to look at it in relation to the Swiss league, which is obviously weaker than the Premier League. But he scored 10 goals, which is a decent return for such a young player.

He can also play on the right wing - a position which is crying out loud for reinforcements. He is currently preparing for EURO 2016 with Switzerland & if he performs well, more clubs would be sniffing around him.

Signing Embolo would also suggest that Jose Mourinho is planning for the future and not just short term. A stick that Mou haters love to beat him with.

Also, he's only 19, so plenty of time to develop and refine and improve his skills. Either way, he's going to be cheaper now than probably at any other point in his future career. If it’s not United, one of the bigger clubs around Europe will take the gamble on Embolo sooner rather than later.

20 Minutes claims that they have documents that proof that United is in talks. I doubt they would write it like that even though they are not super serious newspaper. 2nd, they are the only newspaper who have the story, other's are just copying it now. Let's see how things develop now.

He is a great young talent no doubt but maybe a season too early for him to move imho. He is still raw and up and down (like all young players) but I just dont know if a move now would be benefitial for him

Doesnt have a good reputaiton as an advisor at all and got a lot of criticism for how he handled his brother's career so far.

He could easily be a season too early to for a move to club like United, on the other hand we could nab ourselves another raw Martial; I rate him highly, but I agree, joining Leipzig might be a better move for him to keep up his development. Although, with the Euro's approaching fast, even though I don't see him starting much for Switzerland, if he does get an opportunity to play and he impresses on the big stage, it could easily attract more clubs and drive the price up - so maybe making our move for him now might be better in the long run.

Can someone translate what 20mins have been saying ? They seem to be responding to people's questions on the transfer.

I believe that Embolo, Rashford and Rooney will have a lot to learn from Ibra. In 1-2 years time the former 2 will be competing for his role

Would love to see Emobolo at United. I think we are doing the right thing in signing "potential" before they move to big clubs. If the player is good enough, then he is old enough as proved by Martial and Rashford.

People say Mourinho doesn't give youth a chance and the first thing he does is signing a 22 year old, and now also maybe a 19 year old.

Love this type of signings!

Hopefully it's not like the firmino rumours last year where Brazil media reported we have a deal with him only for him to sign for Liverpool in 3 days

Don't think our biggest newspaper responds to some user comments.
I know we're a small country but that's going too far..

The writer of that article is located in Montpellier, where our national team prepares for EURO, so the source could be someone from the training camp, maybe Embolo himself or Shaqiri.

We can only guess. The article says further that it was very close to done deal with Leipzig with hoping to be over this week until there came in an offer from MUFC.
This could delay the deal over the weekend they say. Player and national coach hoped to have it settled before EURO starts.

Sadly my French is a bit more than rusty.

With the signing of Bailly (and Zlatan hopefully) and the reported interest in players like Embolo and Pogba combined with the likes of Smalling, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Martial, Rashford we'll have one heck of an athletic side. Tall, strong and fast, pace and power I like it Jośe. :D
