It's like the Renato Sanches thread all over again. The kid will suddenly get sold for millions and all the famous Caf scouts will be scratching their heads.

He did seem to work very hard and looked like he wanted to be involved in all areas of the pitch, I can see why Jose might look at him as a long term prospect but not what we need for next season.

I think he's getting a harsh write up, that was a tough gig for a 19year old playing for one of the so called lesser sides in the tournament. He didn't have much service and had to go looking for work, lacked quality as a result.
well I'm not his big fan from what I've seen as he looks all strength and pace without any technical ability but I've seen very little to judge him further but as you said he worked very hard and wanted to be involved, that is as important for me as talent and I think ppl are a bit too much disappointed because they think he would start for us, that is very very unlikely, he wouldn't start for us, he would be one for the future and it's important to acquire all these talents and hope that one of them will become a star.

We are probably after more senior players as well to add immediate quality.

Who has really stood out at the Euros except for Payet maybe? There are not many players who have done very well, so far, the Euros haven been rather dire. Therefore, judging players on these games is just daft, especially a 18 year old player who plays for a team that always had difficulties in the final third. What you get right now in Embolo is is willingness to run, to attack, to be present, to hold up the ball. More physical attributes than anything else. He was doing very well in the Swiss league where he dominated defenders and played well in general - hence the hype.
As I said from the beginning, he is very raw and would need a lot of work. But there are certain qualities in him that are unlikely for an 18 year old. People shouldnt forget that he also did fairly well in the Europe League

Carroll has been sold for millions and the real experts are still scratching their heads.

He may be ethnically African, but he's Swiss.

He has been Cameroonian for the most part of his life though and the initial post was clearly referring to his "ethnicity".

I thought he had a decent game against France. Nothing special but what was he supposed to do when the rest of the team were anywhere between mediocre and poor?

U-turn in the case Breel Embolo (19): The Swiss international was the king transfer of RB Leipzig are - but now the Bundesliga newcomers has dropped out of the poker to the attacker.

Timo Werner (20) is still a little on the throne: With a transfer fee of ten million euros to be changing from VfB Stuttgart continues to Leipzig's most expensive transfer of all time. And the hope of RB, the record with Breel Embolo quickly one more time to crack, is now bursting.

"Yesterday we informed evening both the consultants of Breel Embolo and the Official FC Basel that we are no longer interested in a transfer," sporting director Ralf Rangnick said on Monday the "dpa", confirming a report in the "Leipziger Volkszeitung ".

The financially strong Bundesliga newcomer was prepared to pay at least 20 million euros for the European participants. Embolo wants in the Bundesliga, it said. But now the Leipziger responsible patience have apparently lost, they do not want to be put off any longer. Basel should have demanded 25 million euro transfer fee.

Power Manchester United Ernst?

Whether these Manchester United paid? The new club of José Mourinho already applies more than interested. And even though it recently in an interview, a change in the Premier League apparently little irritated ( "What am I supposed to strive with 24 or 25, if I'm going to England now?"), Could be his future on the island are.

Against France on Sunday night (0: 0) graduated Embolo its first European use from the start for Switzerland - with reasonable success (kicker touch 4). In the first two group matches in the 13-times capped international was respectively off the bench and had quite worked invigorating.

Yeah, that was to Liverpool and Dalglish. It doesn't count. Crazy idiots.

He was really dire last night. No excuses. He barely made any runs too for the midfield which annoyed the shite out of me. Just seems so languid.

Yes he may be very young, but watching his performances closely this tournament, he hasn't done anything special. He can't get the better of any defender it seems and not really shown me anything to deserve all this hype.

Rashford over Embolo everyday of the week.

I guess Harry Kane and Martial are also nothing special then

Very true, attacking football has been awful both collectively and individually at this tournament. All the so called big names have been pretty useless TBH. Defensively though every team have been very good, it doesn't make the most entertainment but it shows all the other countries are catching up in tactical terms.

Both Kane and Martial have shown glimpses of what they can do and both need a break. It's the first time I've seen Embolo play, Embolo hasn't shown me anything that makes me go ok well atleast he could offer this to the team. He reminds me of Lukaku from the games I've seen but a bit quicker, first touch isn't great, strong guy, decision making is poor, dribbling is nowhere near as good as people are suggesting on here. He needs to run the channels more to create more opportunities because being a target man and watching the ball bounce off him isn't working out too well. Hopefully he can prove me wrong and turn it on in the next round but so far I don't know what all the hype is about.

Indeed, and the people who saw Kane or Martial for the first time at the Euros probably think like you do of Embolo about them is the point I am making.

Thought he looked average so far. Highly rated, so there must be something in it, although Swiss league. I would take him for a sensible fee, but not the ridiculous amount last reported.

Way too many people on this thread with a sense of entitlement, as if it's important for him or any player to "impress them". It's crazy, it's almost as if people want to say he's sh*t just for the sake of it or what other people have said.

Strikes me as a bit of a project imo. It would be a year or two before he could be fully integrated into a starting XI type situation.

Welcome to the Internet. Its all about group recognition and the easiest way to be recognized is to make a negative comment (much as with YouTube and Facebook comments).

Would be a great signing. Embolo - Rashford - Martial would be some strikeforce that can achive great things in a few years.

I've a lot of trust in Jose, I'm completely calm with regards to our transfer targets.

Same. Ultimately, its less so much about individuals as Mourinho putting the pieces he deems necessary into place for us to play as he wants.

Since you're in Switzerland, how do you rate him ? What are his strengths/weaknesses and stylistically, what player, past or present does he remind you of ?

One thing I'll say about him is that he has a definite presence on the pitch. Big athletic and fast and to have that kind of presence at 19 is very impressive

I have a lot of confidence in his tactical ability; his ability to manage a squad and to get the best out of his players.

He's signed a lot of average players in the past though.
It's what works for him I suppose, not sure many managers would have had the success he had with Mikel in midfield!

One thing I didn't like yesterday.
He had the ball, lost it and another Switz player won it back and charged forward and you could see Embolo just walking forward, while Switz had a mini-counter attack. Considering this all started halfway into Frances Half and 2-3 Switz players further back than Embolo charged forward
This was early in the first half aswell if i recall correctly.

Didn't watch second half but that moment stuck out for me.

I hope to see him a bit more before I make a judgement though. If he turns out anything like Martial.. buy buy buy.

Yup, he will at the very least build a balanced roster. He can sign whoever he wants.

I absolutely agree. He is a guy who knows what he wants and what is more important knows how to achieve it. If he decides that Embolo is what we need, that is ok with me. I do not think that we have to make our minds up based upon 90 minutes at the Euros...Look at Kane for example, if you had not seen him play and watched him only in France you would have arrived at the decision that he is quite poor... (I do not rate him very highly, nevertheless, I think he is overrated) Basically, we cannot judge someone his Euro 16 performance...
