Never as a person managed to make the name Donald seem cool. Breel Donald Embolo

Please god no Donalds read this

Wait, so this is actually happening? Just thought it was local rumours. Has anyone reliable confirmed the reports?

No papers here. Just the local Leipzig paper and Swiss biggest paper. It's does look like his move to RB Leipzig which looked dead certain is off.
We won't know more until Switzerland get KO
Thanks.

What exactly about him was so bad?

I've only seen the videos posted (I haven't followed him his whole career), but from what I can see is that he is strong and can kick a ball. Basically that's it.
He is not technically gifted.
I can't see anything special about him.

I will put it another way. If you asked me who I would take - Rashford for £30M or Embolo for £10M? Rashford would win hands down. It wouldn't even be close.

Of course, in 5 years, it may be a different story, but only looking at those videos, Breel is nothing special.

Seems mourinho put his 6 month break to good use anyway. Reckon he's got a long list of potential targets

If the press reports are to be believed, Jose was scouting players and registering his interest, as far back as February.

Here's another video showing all his touches in a game, this time from a sub appearance against England.

More or less the same things as in the other video. He's extremely strong for a teenager, quite fast, versatile (plays mainly upfront but runs the channels well). His weaknesses are technical; poor touches and bad ball control etc.

Albeit his young age, seems like just another average player you can easily find in this league.

Fast, strong, quick thinking, good movement on the break, confident in possession, confident out of possession, breathes fire, natural leader, great vision, shoots laser beams out of his arsehole, can recite the entirety of War and Peace in twelve different languages at the same time.

Only seen the YouTube comp but I like the look of this guy if we can get him for a good price. He is the style of player we have been lacking on the right

You left out: Mother or dragons, breaker of chains.

Seems like there is a very good shot that him and Ibrahimovic will be wrapped up after the euros, or when they are out. Start of July most likely. Doesn't make any difference considering they won't be at the start of pre season with the rest anyway, as they will have a tiny bit extra off after the euros, but it definitely looks like we are getting the bulk of the business done early and its just finalizing details for later.

Looks like it, but I sure wish we could get our transfers ready before the Euros since it would have made the competition so much sweeter having some of our new signings to follow and scout. Then we all could jizz ourselves silly over fantasy formations and pretend that we have tactical knowledge :(

He's quicker and even stronger than Martial. Tired of us getting shoved around the pitch.

According to FM16, Mario Balotelli is his idol

Affected by the transfer speculation?Or is he carrying a knock?
Can't wait for that game to start and him to come on at some stage.

He was carrying a knock those last weeks but is probably fit by now. Is not a fix starter anyway for our NT, as Mehmedi and Seferovic are more experienced.
He could replace either of the two in 2nd half.
His starting chance is 50/50 so if he does his job as a sub, he'll start the next game.
Also has to do with tactical needs, totally different player than Seferovic.

Let's sell Martial and Rashford too! :)

Sell sell sell! but in all seriousness, I assume he will come on and i'm really excited to see what he can do, heard comparisons without about 14 different players so i'm interested in seeing this beautiful hybrid of a man.

Is he any better than Depay? He looks strong and powerful. I have no idea what to make of that vid on the first page since I don't really know what the quality of the Swiss league is like.
The quality of a league shouldn't have a bearing on how a player performs at Man Utd.

Many players have come from weak leagues and excelled here (Kante, Payet, etc) whilst others have failed.

If a player is good enough and has the right coaching staff around him, he will make it at the big clubs.

Lol, true. It makes watching games like this, with none of our players playing, a reason to watch.

He is actually very fast for one, so that would make him an improvement on our right wing.

I beg to differ. Mahrez was 23 when he joined Leicester and an unknown and yes he was still developing. At 25 you can see the end product and that a tougher league and regular game time has brought the best out of him. Memphis has had 13 starts. That's not a lot of game time. Memphis proves that moving to a big club doesn't necessarily expedite ones development.

I'm not arguing that more game time means better development. I'm arguing that being at a big club and warming the bench doesn't lead to player development. All the world class players you're referring to must have got game time at their respective clubs and that's how they got better, progressively. I find Goetze vs Busquets to be a good example here. Ones development has stalled and the others has gone from strength to strength because of regular game time. Only Training with elite players is not enough.

Which brings me to my main assertion that Mourinho and United need to produce instant results and to do that they need dependable players that are proven at the highest level. Embolo is definitely not that player. like I mentioned, no one would take Embolo over Mahrez or Bale at the RW position. So if we were to sign a player of such quality for the RW position and considering that Mourinho rarely rotates his best players, would it make sense for Embolo to be at United considering that he will not start week in and week out? I don't think so.

That being said, I get your point as well. It's possible that he might still develop into a good player. But I firmly believe that it can't happen without getting regular chances in real game situations. Maybe you're right, Liepzig might not be the best move for him either, but at this point I don't think United is either.
It wasn't just more game time that did this though, Mahrez improved dramatically this season compared to the tail end of last season (where he played an important part in Leicester's relegation survival). That's also down to the Manager and his coaching staff and the tactics he employs.

I agree that playing at a big club and not getting game time won't do a player any good, but that's where I keep reiterating the importance of what happens in the background. If you do what the coaches tell you in training drills and impress them, you are not going to be warming the bench for a very long time. It's the competitive drive in big clubs that proves this time and again. Rafael at United displaced Neville as first choice because of how he performed in the opportunities he got and in training. Chicarito (Whilst still not young, was shifting from a mediocre league to a big one) displaced United's most expensive striker in Berbatov. There are plenty of examples where you see this sort of thing at big clubs because of how they perform in opportunities they are given. So if Embolo, does the same, there's nothing stopping him from having just as much game time as anyone else.

I'm sure Mourinho knows the importance of instant results, he's on a 3 year (plus one optional) contract after all. His buys are always a mix of youth and experience from what I've noticed, so I am sure he will have a very solid game plan. I'm not overly worried. If he thinks Embolo alone on the right is enough, then I am still not worried.

But yeah, you are right. We can discuss all we want, but in about a year's time, we'll get to know how he does, be it at United, or some other club (I'm assuming the deal to Lepizig is off after the newspaper article).
