Gaming Bloodborne (PS4)

It's freaking awesome, never expected I'd like it this much. So far I've spent around 4 hours learning the game, still stuck before the first boss as I can't beat the big bad wolves that protect them but my progress has been good, at the beginning I'd struggle to get past the first stairwell, now I breeze past all enemies there, breeze past bonfire with hardly any loss of life, beat the big guy and crows in the following area and if I'm lucky I also get past wolves and the other two guys in the next area with ease. At the beginning it took me 30 minutes to get to big wolves on the bridge, now I can do it in 7-10 minutes easily. I think I might try to just run to the first boss as I'll be able to level up once I'm there, even if I lose from what I gather.

I absolutely, absolutely love the setting of this game. This world is literally fantastic, I've sunk more than 3 hours into this game yesterday and time just flew. Even though I've had very little progress the satisfaction that comes with discovering new paths and ways to beat enemies is terrific. I love how the game keeps you on the edge the whole time, it's very exciting to play.

Question I have - I seem to have 99 bullets in my store, I want to sell some of them because I know I'm going to acquire more on my way to the boss, but whenever I sell them I lose all bullets that are in the gun and are left with 0/20, but still 99/99 stored - how do I use them?

I hope I won't lose interest. It's brilliant and I think it's largely because I'm not putting pressure on myself to complete this, I'm well aware that it might prove to be too much in the end and I'll never finish it but I want to get as far as possible. I'm not that great at games I think so it may take me months to get to a reasonable level.

I was on the fence as to whether to get this, but you've just sold it for me.

I've only tried the Dark Souls games briefly at Eurogamer and sucked horribly at them, so I just noped any chance of me buying them.

Might persevere with this one though.

I suck at Bloodborne too to be fair, I just don't care about this because it's still plenty of fun to me. Just don't set yourself to finish the game as quickly as possible, enjoy it and get as far as you can and with this approach you'll love it. If you want to finish it as quickly as possible you're bound to get frustrated a lot, this is the sort of game you need to play to enjoy and have a bit of fun, not necessarily finish. There are multiple ways to finish this game, you don't even have to beat bosses in particular order and go into certain areas at certain time, you can just run around and explore and figure out how to do it. You'll memorize everything in no time.

Must say that the amount of satisfaction you get learning any new moves and ways to get around enemies is incredible. I'm full of pride everytime I glide through the bonfire area now, battering everyone with ease because I know exactly what to expect of them. I'll probably go mental when I eventually figure out wolves.

I can't remember exactly how to get there from the lantern but if you get the bridge/walkway where the second boss is there should be a staircase going down between the wolves and the big guy with the crows. Just go down those stairs and you'll enter a house, go to the bottom floor of the house and then go outside and work your way up, you should get to the gate pretty shortly after that.

Is the second boss in the sewers then? I've only down there a few times but I've gotten killed almost immediately every time.
Yeah, in the sewers. These big walking wolf things aren't difficult to beat, you should be able to knock out all of them easily if you use your time well to recover. Rats are difficult for me because they can kill you in one move if you're not careful, that's why I've been stacking up molotovs - they kill them immediately and then you can run killing only wolf things. I think there are other monsters ahead though, never got there.

Anyone hoping on grabbing this from GAME I'd suggest going elsewhere. You have to have a preorder. Luckily Grangier had one unsealed copy left. I'm really surprised it's sold out everywhere.

I got some free DLC though.

Have you started improving your character yet? Or gotten any new weapons other than the first two you automatically get from the hunter's dream? I really don't get how to go about this yet.

Well considering its the first PS4 game to feel and look like a PS4 game, I'm not surprised. We've been scraping the bottom of the barrel since the console's release

But it caters to a very specific audience. I think a lot of people will be shocked at how hard it is and trade it in next week. It almost feels like people are buying simply for the fact it's first big Sony exclusive without having a clue about the game and genre.

I've improved my clothes so I can get more damage, and stacked up the maximum amount of molotovs and vials, you cannot improve character until you've tried a fight with the boss. I intend to get there today and then try to grind a little - go to the first area around bonfire with a lot of enemies, get 1500-2000 echoes, go back and spend it and so on.

You really should do that asap. Otherwise you're just wasting souls. Just sprint till the end of the bridge if you have trouble with the enemies before that.

It's at the end of the bridge, so I can just run past wolves?

I think I'll take a gamble on this and step into the unknown. I'm itching to buy a new game.

I think so. Never tried it myself though.

The other alternative would be to sprint past the wolves and go into the dark house on the left of the bridge. Continue down that path and you'll eventually unlock the shortcut gate next to the checkpoint which saves massive time the next time you die and also lets you skip the wolves in the future.

Played it for an hour last night and a few hours this afternoon. Really good so far. Main thing was just working out the controls it took me a while to figure out how to even equip a weapon. Died a couple times around the bonfire but once you learn how to dodge and the timing of the enemies I've found it quite straight forwards.
Took on the two wolves that everyone talks about on the bridge and managed to kill them first time & then took out the first boss on my first attempt too!
The second boss is a lot harder I think he took me about 6 try's to defeat. Without spoiling too much I had a hard time in the second part of that fight.
I'm now onto the next area
where I'm getting shot to pieces by a fecking machine gun [spoiler/] !

Edit: the combat in this game is amazing. So many different ways of approaching it. I love the riposte and sneak attacks

Im on Cleric, just running past everything and going in the fog gate. When you get used to dodging its pretty easy to get there

This game is fecking great, even though I keep dying. The combat is truly sublime.

Day one patches are the bane of my life.

I've been on 6 minutes remaining for half an hour.

My kid nicked Bloodborne so I'm not gonna get a look in for a while

He says loading times are only about 20 secounds. Is he just wishing this?

I'm trying to learn to riposte early. I predominately used a shield in Souls so want to try and master a different type of defence early. It's resulting in a lot of stupid deaths.

Yeah, takes a while to learn which enemies can and can't be "parried" as well.. Usually results in getting wrecked if they can't be parried

fecking wolves, I cannot separate them. I toss Molotov at one and he's almost dead but then they both chase me. I acquired a torch, hoping it will help me as they seem to be prone to fire damage. I will get down to it later or tomorrow.

Beat the fecking wolves and unlocked hidden shortcut, yay!!!!

I'll be honest, this is a lot more difficult than I expected.

I was alright at Souls but I think that's hindering me atm. I keep trying dodge like a I would in Souls but it's not the same. The side step when you're locked on is useful one on one but fecking useless in groups. I'm going to have unlearn some bad habits from Souls before I break through this. I'm viewing the opening are like Undead Burg in Dark Souls. I'll probably be replaying this area for a few hours but I'll be better for it when I get through it.

I'm assuming there's some kind of shortcut back to the torch once you get past the Werewolves?

Are people having issues with spectres not working?

Also it would appear suspend and resume doesn't work with this game.

I started a little poorly, gonna put it down to not playing DS for months. Took 4 attempts to kill Gascoigne, accidently got to him while exploring and got him half way the first time so thought I might as well finish him first. Then go back to Cleric :D

Yessss, beat Cleric Beast at first attempt! Now I can level up, I love this fecking game, 4 hours but it was so worth it!!!

Is there a beginners guide to this? Because I'm finding items and I've no clue what they do. The description is so vague. Like Mad Mans Knowledge, it gave me 1 insight ..... what the heck does that even mean!?

@b82REZ spectres, yes, they won't appear anymore. As for suspend/resume, it worked for me.

It means you can upgrade stuff at Hunter's Dream(?)

I've not even played yet, still upgrading my HDD but I think thats it

Yeah, if you get past werewolves go to the house on the left and up the stairs at the end, there is your gate.

Improving character is straightforward, yes? Just pick skill and buy improvement?

What do I need the Hunter Chief Emblem for? It allows me to enter Grand Cathedral's round plaza but I don't even know where it is now. My heart is still racing from my last run to the boss.

I'm not even close to beating Cleric Beast, at best I'll get his health down halfway.

I wonder if I level up if cleric beast gets tougher to beat.

Ah, I see.

Anyone head down the sewers? Supposedly there is a secret path? And right at the very end of said sewers I came across a bus sized rat and noped it out of there. Fcuk that. This game is nerve wracking.

I was at level 10 when I approached him. I barely lost any health after I figured him out, you need to stay really close to him and he won't be able to catch you and especially jump on you, just beat him with your right handed weapon and he will slowly go down. Takes like 3 minutes to kill him this way, wolves before him were tougher for me but I have figured them out with fire.

What level are you? I really hope bosses don't become harder when you get stronger, this would cancel the point of leveling up!

I think I will play GTA Online a lot tomorrow to wear off some stress from Bloodborne. I was going to say I am going to finally finish Dying Light and move on to Far Cry 4 for a storyline game but Dying Light isn't really a relaxing game.

I will grind a little, intend to take my character to level 20 and buy some new weapon before heading to sewers. It gets pretty tense there.
