Gaming Bloodborne (PS4)

You fecking shits. Every time I decide to myself that I won't buy another game for a while suddenly I see a thread where everyone is hyping up something new.

Just beat the cleric beast! :D One thing I've noticed, when you level up, the enemies become much more aggressive but smarter. They don't really leave themselves open to attacks.

I also stumbled upon Gascoigne and got my ass handed to me!

The enemies will always stay at the same level. You're probably just approaching it differently now and seeing different attack patterns etc.

Just read having more insight makes the enemies tougher. Guess I shouldn't have consumed all of them at once.

I stand corrected said the man in orthopaedic shoes.

I only have about 12 insight I think so I've not seen them level up.

@DatIrishFella I did read somewhere taking on Gazza before level 20 is pretty much signing your own death warrant so I'm grinding for a bit.

There's an item that makes the fight a lot easier that you can find from talking to a girl in a window...
Tiny Music box

I've had him a couple of shots away a few times but when he transforms he just jumps in the air lands on me and beats the shit out of me. I'm finding using my blunderbus while he's in his human is useful, you can cheese him a bit by standing behind gravestones too. He remind me a bit of the Capra Demon in Dark Souls, only this time you have room to manoeuvre and no dogs attacking at the same time.

Hmm he was the first boss I beat :D cant have been any higher than 10 or something

You just have to learn your parry oppertunities, took me 4 tries. Didnt use the music box as I didnt have it yet

With regards to difficulty, I think one factor is that in DS and DS2 you could go find yourselves items that instantly make the game half as hard. For example ring of regen and ring of binding in DS2 which on a first/blind playthrough will help you out a lot. I dont remember DS that well but I'm pretty sure there was something similar there

Im not sure there are any equipment items that impact Bloodborne like that. There are definitely weapons that help a lot - starting with the axe is a good idea if you just want to progress, a lot of people still use it till most of the way through the game due to the range on it. The Holy Blade sword is great damage so again, if you just want progress you can cling to those weapons.

So other than padding your vitality, I dont think theres any "trick" to making the enemies less dangerous. You can be overlevelled and still get killed by normal mobs because of the amount of damage they can do

That's a good point. There were items available early in Souls that would help you in the early game meaning you would progress steadily. The Drake Sword saved me loads of times.

There probably will be similar items in Bloodborne.

I might go on a mooch for the music box.

Yeah using the gravestones is useful. Using oil urns and then throwing a molotov at him does a ton of damage as well, if you have any. Parrying him works but if you feck it up then you probably die.

I think so. I avoided them and now I'm down in the horrible sewers with little to no heath.. any tips?
The sewers aren't that bad, most of the enemies are slow and just crawl around apart from the big ass pig but you can go around him.. You go through the sewers to get a nice shortcut to the other boss and a few other things. If you're low on health and have no vials then just go as far as you can and stay hidden and look for a shortcut. Or just die and sprint to it with normal health. Once you get the hang of it it's not too hard to jump away from everyone and sprint through it.

Yeah, it's mostly just grinding your way to learn how to play it, no really OP weapon early on. Summoning people makes it a lot easier though as it always has.

I accidently just rang the summoning bell but nothing happened.

Is there some issue with the servers? Spectres aren't working either.

Picked this up earlier today, it's taken about 2 hours so far to download the launch patch and there's still some way to go it's a bit annoying.

Parrying with the gun is brilliant. Encountered one of those big bastards with the cleaver early on and made short work of him with the parry.

Parrying? What button is that mapped to? Do you mean dodging?

Parrying/riposte is when you time your gun shot perfectly staggering the enemy giving you chance to deal much more damage. It's tricky to master, it's lead to so many unnecessary deaths for me.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

I stopped using the blunderbuss because it's so weak. I now realise it's for parrying only. Makes sense now.

There have been times I've ignored it for hours because it seems to get me killed more than it helps offensively. I need to stop being lazy and learn how to use it effectively. When used against Gazza's human form it takes huge chunks of life off him.

Is there any use for the red jewel broach or gold pendant?

WHen Gazza transforms he's impossible to evade. Can't use blood vials because of it, keep on dying. Such a cnut. Level 23 btw.

I picked the handgun. Shite.

Its the quickest to come out so its best for parrying, with the blunderbuss it has a startup time so you have to predict sometimes.

The blunderbuss though hits aoe. Does that mean you can stagger two opponents at once? Perhaps, but the timing for that would be insane. Still if you hit multiple enemies it can sometimes push them back

Ffs got to the first boss and died without getting a check point, it's put me so far back. Is there a lamp or something on the bridge before the boss?

Beat the first boss after two more tries tonight. Trick was to get right up close to him i found. Well, and dodge him as best you can. Had my heart pumping though!

Slowly starting to get the hang of this, being more careful to try and pick off fellows one by one. Saved up enough and got all the hunters clothing, so I should be a bit stronger.

Next bit might be tricky, I'm at the 2nd torch, and I've reached the street, where the 5 guys march up and down, beat them, opened a gate that leads me back to the ladder to the torch. Spent my blood on the hunter stuff at this point and exited for tonight, I had a look up the street along the way and there are a bunch of feckers around a bonfire or something.

Just be mindful that there are one or two different ways you can go.

For example most people will kill the Cleric boss first, but I killed Gascoigne first. A lot of people have called blood starved beast the 2nd boss, but I've killed 5 or 6 and havent gone back to kill it yet.

Likewise when you refer to lanterns, I think Old Yharnam was like my 10th lamp or something as I missed that part.

Its definitely not an open world and there is definitely an order you have to do certain things to open up other things, but not everything is linear progression

Spent about 7 hours on this today and was able to beat the cleric beast and gascoigne (who, by the way, is a fecking nightmare). Currently sitting at level 18.

Having never played a souls game before, I've got to say this game is both infuriating and amazing. I don't think I've felt so relieved to beat a boss as I did today in a long time.

Yeah, sorry, I meant lamps. I'll have to look around for alternate routes and stuff, I saw a path next to that gate I unlocked, covered in boxes, had a giant lardo with a giant cleaver, but he hacked me up in seconds.

So, by the rate this is downloading I should be able to play this by some point next week. What would you all recommend as starter weapons?
Definitely the axe. I used the saw cleaver as the starter weapon and it was pretty good, hits quickly, but the axe has the biggest variety and most useful move out of the starters. I use the kirkhammer for the most part though, you can buy it shortly into the game.

Nothing to be sorry about, it was just a forward thinking note so that people dont confuse each other in the future if they ask for help or something. "I'm at the 4th lamp just before the 3rd boss" is going to be hard to understand

But also so that people know they have some choices, if you don't like one way or one boss early on you might be able to go a different route and fight a different boss. You dont always have to pound your head against a wall
