Gaming Bloodborne (PS4)

Wooo. First try after the United game :D

...only had to use 12 blood veils.

Music box worked a treat. Waited till he got to beast form and used it. Wouldn't work a second time which almost got me killed but I somehow managed to evade his attacks a bit better than previously.
Grrr, this caught me out too. Thought I was being clever holding off on using the music box til his beast form but ended up being killed cos of it.

Starting to pick up a bit of momentum. Used the forbidden woods for grinding and getting handy with Ludwigs holy blade.

I've read about Ludwig's Holy Blade. Is it worth saving the 20,000 souls for? And am I close to being able to get it after just defeating Father Gasgoine? I like swords, so I would rather have a sword just to look cool...

Its supposedly the most OP weapon in the game, but honestly I just went back to the axe since it felt better for me.

I have to say, my interest for this has completely withered away. The gameplay ended up feeling very formulaic for me. Got as far as defeating Rom then just stopped playing, don't feel compelled to go back either.

Just got to the Blood Starved Bellend. I hadn't died for bloody ages before him either, twat.

I need to get back to this, I spent 10 hours playing it during the first week and then was held back by a few things I had to do and just put it aside for several weeks. Only realized yesterday that I have not played it in weeks and I was only past first boss, I will probably never finish it but I have to at least progress a bit more

I went from the saw blade to Ludwig's holy blade and found it to be slow and clunky but I went back to Central Yarnham and played through the area a few times just to get a feel for it against enemies I could kill in my sleep. Got my head around it pretty quickly and now wouldn't go back to the saw blade.

I was surprised how hard it was, considering I've heard that it's supposed to be easier than Dark Souls. After a period of adjustment, things are going better, and like in Dark Souls I find that the beginning is really tough, then you start unlocking some shortcuts and whatnot and things become more bearable.

I have to say, though... I find the Victorian Horror style of the game more oppressive than any DaS game... that and how narrow the and full of junk the spaces are makes me flinch all the time.

I just bought this today, is it as hard as they say?
I'm a fairly casual gamer and haven't played any of the DS games. Bought it on impulse and after about 2 hours of being killed in the same area I was ready to chuck it in but it gets better as @Eriku says.

If you are not as in tune with these games as i was, there are certain mindsets you need to get in;

You will die regularly (especially starting off)
The game is not linear as such (you will need to constantly replay certain areas in order to gain souls and level up or to farm blood vials).
You need to be clever - you will need to kill large groups of people but do it one at a time by luring them out.

It is frustratingly hard at the beginning if you haven't played these types of games before, but don't be put off by it, just keep on plugging away. Once you learn the ropes, it's an incredible game.

Notes are great. Some genuinely helpful stuff gets left. Makes entering unexplored areas a little less nervy... only a little.

Just offed Father Gascoigne, only took me 4-5 tries ;P

Had him down to less than a 10th of his health on my 3rd try, then died... grr.

Hadn't found the music box either, which I've heard is useful after his transformation.

"Treasure ahead, therefore try rolling" 43 upvotes .....

"I mean, I know it looks LIKE a bottomless pit but what if I miss out on some goodies" ..... *rolls into hole" .... "YOU DIED" ........ "HOW THE FCUK DOES THAT HAVE 43 UPVOTES!!?!"

Rom the spider is stupidly hard. His arcane things that he shoots up in the air are impossible to dodge most of the time... Any tips?

At least it isn't like Dark Souls 2 where they are two types of messages.

1. Illusory wall ahead. *Hits wall* nothing "Twat."

2. Behind any female character Woman, but hole.

I found that if you lock onto 1 of the little spiders it's much easier to dodge them by using the side step, rather than the full on roll it does without locking on.

Kill all the little spiders first aswell, that way when they're dead you get a clean run at ROM.

Yeah I've been locking on and killing all of the spiders and i still can't dodge it.. I'm probably doing something wrong. I'm loving the difficulty of the game, but homing mechanics that just lock onto you no matter how you move suck.

I struggled badly at first with it too, generally you only need to roll once just as the arcane is about to hit, I was over moving at first and then sort of running back into it, I found rolling in a zig zag fashion seemed to help. move towards Rom as well as running backwards seems to be worse IMO.

Still can't beat he Blood Starved Beast. Furthest i've taken is about 70% health.

Now I have 10 blood veils, no antidotes and 2 quicksilver bullets left :( Hate having to go farm for stuff before I can have enough crack at the boss. Levelling up, fair enough, but finding items are a pain in the arse.

I only found out about half way through DSII that you pressed X/A whatever on PC to open the illusory walls, here I was running around like a mad man hitting walls, draining my already ridiculously fast weapon durability.

Wooooo. Blood Starved Beast beaten!

Ironically, the way I beat goes against the way i've learnt to play this game entirely. After two attempts already this evening, and using 8 of my 10 antidotes and no more quicksilver bullets, I had the choice whether to go farm for an hour or give it one last go with what I had. Anyway, I gave it a go with not much hope considering i've been using on average 4 antidotes per attempt. I get him down to about 50% health with ease - gotten the hang of his attacks and can pretty much evade anything but the poison. I use both antidotes and he gets me to low health, so I was pretty much fecked. I mange to heal a couple of times and decide I may as well go gung-ho to see if I could beat him in time. I did, I beath the fecker with ease! Had to get a couple of nervy heals in but I just went for it.

The best part? I was yet to die on any journey (came close though) to the Blood Starved Beast and have 35 000 blood veils waiting for me :D I went and got Ludwigs Holy Blade and leveled up twice. And then went and killed the doll while getting excited with my new weapon...

I would have beaten the Blood Starved Beast on the previous attempt. Again, I was breezing through it, but got a bit nervy when he started going mental. I got his life down to about 10% and got a bit excited. Thought it would be a brilliant idea if could get him with a Molotov and kill him in one. He stopped to do his poison attack... this was my chance. I end up throwing it at the wall behind me (fecking nerves were all over the shop) and then he's on me like shit on a stick. No harm done, I try to compose myself and finish him off normally. I get about one or two hits and then poisoned. It's cool, i'll hit square, use an antidote, get one final hit on him and i'm done.... guess who ended up throwing another Molotov at another wall? fecking game.

Man, I just had to stop for the evening after my first venture into Old Yharnam. Managed to make my way to the gunman, saw the warnings that I'd want to get ready for some evasive maneuvers and did so, but my hits didn't seem to drain him much at all. It's bad enough exploring and dealing with the beasts without having a dude ratatat-ing you from afar at the same time. Anyway, my pulse is so high after that first encounter, I decided to let my first trip into Old Yharnam stand on its own for tonight.

I am really liking this game, but at the same time I find it hard to get myself ready to get into it. Yharnam is so full of mangled steel, criss-crossing paths, overgrowth and whatnot, and it's so dark and dank that I see danger lurking everywhere. Old Yharnam is doubly bad for this, PLUS the bleedin' gunman. Anybody else being a wreck with a high pulse while playing this game?

No need to tell me that I ain't seen nothing yet... I am already assuming this to be the case.

Beat the One Reborn and Darkbeast Paarl last night, managed to make it through most of the nightmare frontier too untill a feckin Abominable snowman smashed me out of nowhere with a boulder, made my way back through though and killed all of them and got to Amygdala who killed me, I then lost 90,000 odd blood echoes making my way back round to her by...you guessed it, the feckin Abominable Snowman cnuts.

Beat Vicar Amelia after about 20 tries. She didn't frustrate me as much as the Blood Starved Beast, despite probably having more attempts at her. Again, I eventually beat her by going a bit more gung ho as opposed constantly thinking about every single strike I make. Absolutely raped me of my blood veils as well.

I also got captured by some big cnut with a sack... the place he took me to was scary as shit. I got my throat slit my some dwarf lady a couple of times, absolutely flattened by a some big feck off pig and annihilated by the sack men over and over again. Eventually, I had the last laugh because I got some awesome looking armour that I will probably never change for the rest of the game - so bad ass looking! Was there anything else to do in that area? I was too scared to properly explore.

The game seems like it's opened up a bit now. I keep getting lost. I stumbled across the Darkbeast Paarl once and got mauled, and couldn't even remember how I got there... not that I want to go there again any time soon.

Nah Woodzy you wanna GTFO from that area now that you've got the armour, though there's a pretty good new weapon at the opposite end of that area if you really want an excuse to go back there but after that just leave untill you have to go there.

I also found Vicar Emilia massivley frustrating, I could't understand how almost everyone else was saying she was easy but like you I was being too cautious and once I just started getting torn into her she wasnt much of a problem.

Go ahead and leave. You'll return eventually and have a much better time against Darkbeast Paarl (he's quite easy to find, btw, from the lamppost you descend the stairs twice and it's through a corridor. It took me ages to beat him and it was really a waste of time instead of just doing it later at a much higher level.

Just beat the Witch of Hemwick on my first try :D Incredibly easy boss. In fact, I didn't actually know what I was supposed to be doing the whole fight and still managed to defeat her.

Now... i've got to the point in this game where i've realised I don't actually know what i'm supposed to be doing... I mean, I enjoy levelling up and the sheer difficult of it alone keeps me playing, and overall i'm bloody loving it (although I am looking forward to getting back to Dark Souls), but what is the actual point? I beat that witch and got an item that means absolutely nothing to me and no indication of where i'm supposed to go next. I like exploring at times but i gets tedious after a while.

To contradict that, I do love that you can seemingly take on any boss you feel like in any order.

Just unlocked the door to the sickroom that you start in. Made me feel all giddy if i'm being honest. The design of the this world is absolutely wonderful.

Also used the beckoning bell for the first time on the Shadows of Yarnham. Died on my first attempt solo, and thought there was no chance I was going to attempt that again alone. I spent so long dicking about in those woods that I just couldn't be bothered with long boss runs, multiple attempts and of course the risk of losing my 40 000 blood echoes.

Second attempt I died despite using the beckoning bell. I thought it was going to be easy but I rushed a bit and the cnut with a sword sword got me into a corner. I doubt the guy I was co-oping with was happy, although I assume they carry on as normal if one hunter dies? Third attempt I did co-op again and this time we nailed it. Lots of bowing, lots of finger pointing, haven't felt like this much of a nerd since my WoW days. Are than any downsides to doing those things co-op? Obviously you are using some insight but I have a feck ton of it and there's nothing worth spending it on.

Also did my first Chalice Dungeon this morning. Was easy if i'm being honest, I guess i'm too high a level for the first one. The 3rd layer boss was a big wolf on fire, that I can't remember the name of, but I beat it with ease either way. I assume it was one of the later bosses in the main game and it will be much more difficult at that point?

Watchdog of the old lords? You'll meet him again in later chalice dungeons but the fight will be insanely harder than what you did.

I can't get any joy out of the Beckoning Bell... I've used it something like ten times, not a single time has it summoned anybody for me. What the hell is up?

That was the one. I'm not even sure if he got a hit on me. I felt like I could take on the world after beating it so easy :(

I had to wait a couple of minutes both times I tried using it. I thought it wasn't going to work but I guess you just have to wait for a player.

Unrelated, managed to order Dark Souls 2 from Amazon for £25. I'm absolutely in love with these games at the moment.

I knew my run of good form wasn't going to last. It has suddenly got hard again.

feck the spider women at the front of Castle Cainhurst and fecking feck feck Martyr Logarius and his floating cnuting skulls.

Boom, finally beat Martyr Logarius. Like most other bosses I just went for it a bit with quick attacks, riposte and visceral, and lots of jumping around. Then I would sprint like a mad man when he was doing his magic attacks.

Before that i've been doing some levelling. The run between the Witches Abode and Hemwick Charnel Lane is great between levels 60 - 70. Easy to kill the enemies, plenty of blood veil drops and usually around 1.5k echoes each run. I stopped when I got to level 80 because it was taking about 3 runs to go up one level and I couldn't be bothered. To celebrate my levelling I went and gave Darkbeast Paarl another go and destroyed him, then beat Logarius after a few failed attempts. Managed to resist the urge to use the beckoning bell on him. I regret using it on the Shadows of Yarnham now, despite there being no negatives as mentioned above.

I pretty much spent my level points on Bloodtinge only, as I wanted to be able to use Evelyn. Considering I don't use my pistol that much (Logarius being an exception), i'm not sure I should have wasted about 10 levels on it, but I just wanted to be able to use that weapon. My stats are follows:

Level 81
Vitality: 30
Endurance: 27
Strength: 37
Skill: 13
Bloodtinge: 18
Arcane: 6

Is there anything I should build upon next? Arcane is very low but I don't see why I would need it (I don't even know what it does). The same with Skill. Off to Byrgenwerth next... please don't make me go back :( Although i'm a considerably higher level than when I previously went there. That centipede thing is going to get a sword right up its arse. Also, any good farming areas for my level? Something quick, relatively fun and worth the loading times!

Gonna quote myself from before:

A small tip for people who've been to the first floor of the lecture building as its a great place to farm echoes.

There are 2 rooms with enemies. One room has only one enemy and another room has like 15 enemies. Killing the large group of enemies nets about 13-15k every run. Once you've killed that group of enemies go to the room which has only one enemy and die to it. When you revive go grab your echoes and repeat the process. The enemies are piss easy if you've upgraded your weapon decently.

Never mind, I'm there now.

Just beat Rom. Second easiest boss I've faced. Ignored the spiders and just focused on him.

Things are getting... interesting now.
