You didn't tag me, but I'm new to the series and I think the game is incredible once you stick with it. There will be times at the beginning where you might feel you've wasted your money on something too difficult to play, but as I said, that will pass and you'll start kicking some ass.

Masterpiece.

It's fecking frustrating when you get stuck in a corner. Impossible to get out. You just get caught in hit animations til you die.

I'm too, am new to the series.

One of the best games I've ever played, really does remind me LoZ: Ocarina of Time for adults.

How the feck do you avoid her ground pound attack?

First attempt I got her down to less than a quarter of her life and then she did two ground pounds in quick succession and I died.

So far tonight I've lost over 40000 blood echoes. That would have been about 3 levels.

I haven't beat her, I gave up after the second attempt. I spent 20k on Ludwig's Holy Blade, even after modding it it's not as powerful as my Axe I got at the start of the game. Waste of echoes.

So I got past the tower I ws stuck on before and carefully dropped down a bunch of rickety bridges, some drops taking half my life away. Then I beat some new werewolf enemy who was pretty tough and I move on only to have my brains sucked out by some cthulu slug abomination, then on my return journey I get killed by the stupid regular enemies losing all my blood echoes.

I can't believe that the Blood-Starved Beast is still blood starved. It has torn me apart a number of times now and should be called the 'No more blood please' Beast. Stocking up on antidotes and levelled up my cleaver to +3 but I'm not sure how I'm gonna get through the last 25% of it's life.

All that planning in my head for how I'm going to get the gunner on the tower. Killing all the enemies on the way, getting my molotov ready, etc... to just get up the ladder and fail to dodge his gun three times and just die.

The frustration is real.

Shoot him off the roof, that's the only way I could kill him.

He is a pain, I got sort of lucky when beating him. I waited at the top of the ladder without going onto the platform and he walked to the centre of the tower top. When I got up he charged me and I somehow squeezed away while he went flying off the top. You might want to try some variation of that??

Im really enjoying it so far, the slight framerate drops and loading screens are the only negatives I can come up with right now that some might have an issue with but they dont even bother me at all really. Everything From Software have set out to do with this game they've done it brilliantly.

Tried this, when I got up he shot me off and I died.

Mind that I'm still very early on, as I'm playing bits here and there, along with other games(notably Eastside Hockey Manager).

Also, I'm not even a hack & slash fan, or action rpg, whichever you consider it(I'm leaning towards hack & slash). Tbh, I'm not usually even a fan of horror.

I debated buying it, due to not often being a fan of these styles of game, and the Souls legendary difficulty I had assumed would frustrate me. Wrong on both counts. It's incredible fun, with beautiful graphics(it's almost a shame it's usually too dark to see the effort in detail often), and a engaging world. The atmosphere is incredible. I don't find the deaths frustrating, every time it's been my fault. Either stupidly getting stuck in a corner, getting cocky and caught out by stronger enemies, or leaving myself open to group attacks. I like this though, play sensibly and anything is beatable, feck around, get fecked up. The only frustration is the loading times.

Also, quite love that the game(and presumably Souls) seem to actively encourage online discussion and help on how to approach things.

Can't say much of the story/lore, I haven't picked up too much of it yet.

Best game on the PS4 bar none, and probably the best of it's genre I've ever played. 9/10 for me so far, would get 10/10 if they can cut down those loading screens a reasonable amount, almost as bad as Smackdown 2 on the PSX.

I've just ignored the machine gunner. Once you open the shortcut you don't have to worry about him at all. I'll head back when I'm levelled up more, he's too difficult to beat and trying to make him fall off the tower is just going to be sheer luck.

Climbing the ladder now, if that prick kills me I'm done for the night.

I'm still having some difficulty with the dodging. In Souls you would roll, but with the side step I find it hard to judge when I'm at a safe distance, which leads to me either getting hit or spamming dodge and wasting endurance. It has lead me to getting a little better at parries though because I use them more often.

More often than not, I find it's better not locking on so you get the roll dodge instead of the step.

It's more an issue against bosses. I prefer to try and stay locked onto a boss to you can watch them, when you use free cam and roll, the camera angle gets fecked.

I'm probably just a little out of practice I've barely played through the week.

When using the slow axe it's a pain in the arse not locking on though.

I use the cleaver. I much prefer fast weapons, which is why I don't know why I bought the Kirkhammer. I fecking hate that weapon. Im hoping it scales with strength and becomes a bit quicker to use.

I've always stayed locked on. Never even considered trying to fight with free cam. I also almost exclusively use my saw cleaver extended, only used it closed for the Cleric Beast.

True, but rolling suits my cowardly play style perfectly....

I prefer it closed, you get a better DPS because you use less endurance in that form.

I've been working under the theory that the further I stay away from everyone and everything, the better. After the beast, I'm thinking of practising against some fatsos with it closed and dodging. Need to get the hang of parrying with the gun too, pretty useless at that.

Same. I feel like it doesn't effect certain enemies too, or I'm just not timing it right.

I bought the Kirkhammer and immediately regretted it, I haven't even killed one single enemy with it. Much prefer alternating between the the saw cleaver and the hunter axe.

I think I'm close to completing it. Have been quite addicted to it tbh. I love the art style, the setting and the atmosphere is brilliant. I recommend using headphones. It's more creepy than being an actual horror game which is perfect for me. I love the style of the characters and some of the armour sets. You start to feel like you're in control of the scariest thing in the game. The combat is perfect for me. I don't like it to be slow and clunky but I don't like it unrealistically quick and I think the balance is perfect.
For the most part it's not as hard as made out to be its just a challenging game where you have to learn the mechanics. You get punished for trying to force things or taking on more than you can handle. That being said the game rewards you for being aggressive at the right times and that's what I like about it. I wouldn't want to be hidden behind a shield and I love the fact they are not
meant to be :')
used in the game. Basically get the dodge mastered, slowly move through and learn the environments and it's ok for the most part. The hardest parts are when you advance into new areas and aren't sure what to expect or where you have to go but whenever I've felt at my limit of exploring anymore, I've managed to find a shortcut, a lamp or a new boss. Even if you die to the boss you now know where you're going next time and can get there a lot quicker.
There are a couple of small negatives I think. No pause option is weird. I've played offline mostly but when online I've never had any interactions apart from messages on the floor. It just seems silly not to have it. Perhaps they want you to play whole sections without stopping but it can be inconvenient and I just ran back to where I'd killed everything and hope I'd be in one piece when I got back. Framerate is very solid most of the time but it can dip briefly but quite noticeably in some boss fights when there's a lot going on. Luckily it hasn't screwed me over but it could. And lastly whilst I like the environments and theme I've found ive not enjoyed the last few hours as much just because I'm tired of being in the dark for so long. Its not something they should even consider changing but it is a fairly long game in a dreary place.
Definitely one of the best games I've played and its the best game on the PS4. Would highly recommend it.

Got to the area with all the bonfires and riflemen near Hemwich Charnel Lane with 11 000 Echoes before dying. Managed to make it back and win back my Echoes, kill all the riflemen and push on towards the lantern. Got there with 23 000 Echoes. I've never been so scared of dying in my life.

How does the saw spear compare to the saw cleaver?

EDIT: Fancy exploring Central Yharnam and collecting it and doing the other stuff before even thinking about Gazza.

It takes some getting used to at first. Whatever people say about not having your hand held, I don't think it's a great design choice to alienate players like this does in the beginning. Fortunately I resisted the temptation to smash my controller repeatedly against the wall.

But if you persevere, it becomes awesome. It has such atmosphere and plays so well. Just when I was about to give up, I had a breakthrough, and now, I haven't been this hooked on a game for years. The loading screens aren't even bugging me that much, you need a bit of time to cope with the rage. I use the adrenaline and do some situps while I'm waiting so I don't feel quite as guilty for playing so much.

9/10 so far.

Wow. No judders even, everyone loves it.

Asked for it for my birthday which is in 2 weeks. I could just get it tonight on PSN but I'd feel guilty considering the money I've spent on gaming lately. Even though it all amounts to the same once I receive it as a gift, that would have otherwise been money.
