Television Better Call Saul | Includes Breaking Bad Spoilers

I hate opinions like this. "I don't like it so everyone who does must like it for a stupid reason."

There are going to be people who disagree with the quality of the show, doesn't mean they only like it for stupid reasons.
I know - it's why you're usually wrong whenever we argue.

I thought the first season was decent, kept me entertained enough to come back and watch season 2.

There is no reason that is not stupid for this show having a 100% rating.

I mean do you know how rotten tomatoes works?

Edit: It rates Breaking bad series 5 as a 9.8 out of 10

Better Call Saul gets an 8.2

I'm going from this:

Was it any good ?
I'm really not sure what I just watched?

The fecking ending

I heard that this series would be a bit faster and would introduce more BB characters but it's slow as ever (slow moving is an understatement … that opener). If they seriously want to build up to something there has to be some kind of hook but there's nothing.

I honestly do not know what I just watched, really! :wenger:

I wasn't totally against the first series but this is quite baffling??? :annoyed:

The website uses a really weird way of measuring "fresh"ness.

It compiles "good" and "bad" reviews. That's it. So when it says 100% fresh it just means that not one critic didn't like it. However you can like something and give it a 6 out of 10 and you can like something and give it a 10 out of 10. That's how the 8.2 rating I got is generated, it averages all of those out.

That's less insane, Google should use that score on the search page rather than the 100% figure then.

Really? The reviews seemed quite positive. Will download and watch tonight.

Watched the new episode. More of the same really, not bad, not great, and very slow.

Other than that easter egg, and the bald fellas amazing yellow shoes, I was seriously struggling to maintain an interest in the season 2 premier. It's quite an impressive feat to have somehow made it even slower. Though it did at least address one of my biggest gripes with the finale...

Apparently he did intend on going back to conning people (at least for a short time) rather than choosing to be a shittier, cheaper lawyer for some bizarre ignoble purpose. Which at least makes a little more sense...For a bit. Until he basically does just that anyway at the end, because... reasons?

Bunch of OAP's played bingo and...well that's about it.
Vaguely remember him running the bingo.

Part of me thinks I should rewatch the finale before starting S2, the other 99% thinks it was shit enough to forget it's not worth it.

Ken appearing was cool. Did you also notice that the expensive tequila was the same stuff Gus took to Mexico to poisen the don?

Is this worth sticking with? Seems like they should rename it 'Better Call van Gaul"

The only thing interesting like at the start of last season was the opening scene. I'm guessing thats indication of his life post-Breaking Bad where he contemplated walking out the door but didn't want to alert Police. I can't remember how his character was left in Breaking Bad, he joked with Walt about working in Coffee Shop/ moving to Belize, but his involvement was never revealed..?

I think I may just wait a few weeks instead and binge watch through a few of these episodes, because I get a sense of nothing really happened by the end of watching them. There were some good episodes last season but the only thing keeping me (and others) interested is the Breaking Bad connection.

I love this show.

It's hard to explain. Nothing huge seems to happen, well at least not very often.

It's just the atmosphere that Gilligan can create makes me so intensely engaged without anything ever having to happen.

I liked it, it is a bit strange for sure in terms of it seems to lack a clear direction. It obviously is going somewhere, but just in a very slow fashion.

Personally I love it. I guess people get spoilt by shows like Walking Dead etc which is full of excitement.

The best episode last season where definitely the breaking bad-esque ones though, which is a bit worrying.

I just don't think it knows what it wants to be. Is it a dark comedy? It certainly has it's cringeworthy moments where you don't know whether to laugh or not. A normal comedy? It is a very funny show, though certainly not all the time. A drama? A few episodes have been basically Breaking Bad, and equally dramatic. A tragedy? It's telling the story of one; Jimmy turning himself into a criminal lawyer.

I think that at some point, it's going to become good, and then be brilliant. It's just a bit confused at the moment.

Pace doesn't = Action!! The B-plot in this episode, for example (about the yellow shoed gimp and his poor decision making) contained no action, and yet was easily the best part of the ep. Each scene was a fairly static, polite conversation between two or three people, and yet each one moved the story forward, and told us something about the characters involved.

Saul's scene with Ken on the other hand, did neither (aside from something we've been told in 150+ other scenes) and yet somehow seemed about half the running time. We knew he was going to con him from the second he went over, and yet we were required to sit through Ken's entire pitch to get there, only for Saul to go back to being a lawyer two scenes later, after stealing a couple of drinks.

The idea that anyone who doesn't embrace this as riveting, quality television can only be satisfied by rednecks fighting zombies with big sticks isn't really fair, or true.

Slow opener but I quite enjoyed it. That said I'm gobsmacked to read on another forum (and from the odd post on here) that a lot of people think the 1st season of this was better than the 1st season of BB (sorry to start the comparison off again). It's just not anywhere near.

Mockney is correct about the Ken scene too. It was a decent little scam but took up far too much of the episode imo. I think they just really wanted to drag out the BB call back.

That said I am interested to see what drags Jimmy out of what looks like a dream job at the end of the episode there. I guess he'll get bored with the straight life as alluded to already.
