There never are quotes unless both sides want to be open about an agreement.

Jacob and Kay don't know what is going on I'm sure, but had to create some article.

I had a quick browse around the other papers, but they are all related to what we already knew from today, so not even worth posting.

The Times was most original, that's why I posted it.

Not having a go at you, just saying that article is a pile of shite. They haven't even bothered to polish the turd.

So what do we think of the times article then? are they one of the more reputable papers? will this story be all over the other papers soon?

(Theres me thinking 'does me writing this post make this transfer the slightest more possible' has anyone else had this same crazy notion? perhaps subconsiously.....hmmm)

The Times are one of the more reputable papers, but I'd say that article is just guess work with them really.

Shall i tell you why it isnt? because its got the word 'more' before it.

Shall I tell you why it is? Because none of them are reputable whatsoever. There is no varying degrees, they all tell fibs to sell papers.

Oh ye of little faith :D

Some papers are worse than others and you know it. The fact that the general standard is shit doesnt change that fact.

A berb and a supercup in the space of two/three days. Could be a good weekend.
Especially for Fergie.

Not at all. Some use lurid 'pun-laden' headlines(The Sun), and some are understated(The Sunday Times), but they all peddle different versions of the same old shit. The Times' transfer preview on the season is all the proof you need on that score. Publishing the sorts of rubbish we are constantly seeing in this thread makes them disreputable, to me at least. The fact the use bigger words, and smaller, less cringeworthy headlines doesn't change the fact that they're all much of a muchness. IMO, of course.:)

I don't know why people are constantly fretting about this, why not just let things happen? We're not going to influence anything anyone does so just sit back and watch if anything happens.

Plus how else will we waste the early hours of the morning? It part of my ritual now, I dont know what I will do once this thread has gone.

Is this the longest thread ever not to be a sticky?

This is the most important thread in the history of the forum.

It doesn't need to be, it's going to be on top of the pile for a while without mod's help.

I think you might be surprised by how many people don't buy into the whole media bullshit. Although, maybe not since you're talking for others now;)

Berbatov Joins Manchester United
The CEOs will sign the contract in Monaco, today

FC Tottenham Hotspur finally accepted the offer of Manchester United and Dimitar Berbatov is now a Red Devil, well informed sources from England told the Standart. The deal is for 25 million pounds. The team from London will also receive premiums, if Dimitar plays well for Manchester.
The management of Tottenham are delaying their signature, as they are looking for a second striker on whom to spend the bulky sum. They already paid fifteen million pounds to Spartak Moscow for Roman Pavlyuchenko of Spartak Moscow. However, the rest ten million is not enough to buy his teammate in Russia?s national team, Andrey Arshavin. Tottenham Hotspur sporting director Damien Comolli will try to negotiate a deal with the management of FC Zenit tonight in Monaco. Whatever the outcome of the negotiations, the owner of Tottenham will later sign the contract for Berbatov's transfer to Manchester United. FC Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill is in Monaco.
All of the participants in the Berbatov saga gather in Monaco today to watch tonight's Europe Super Cup final Manchester United vs Zenit.

Except the 'reputation' of a paper doesn't really come from the success of it's football transfer analysis - a paper can be 'more reputable' when addressing factual issues than another.

Good find there bberb. Lets see if our journos pick up on it. Does it say in there that he could be playing tomorrow? Surely not.

My pleasure. I think the Times has just picked it up, hasn't it? On the fee, like you said earlier on, 25 + add-ons = 28.

No, nothing on Berbs' debut or anything.

To be fair, it's quite clear I'm talking about papers in the context of footballing coverage, and not in an overall sense. And I'd stand by my original post. While some papers have better writers than others, they all allow the sort of coverage that makes up the bulk of the posted articles in this thread. And that stops them from being 'reputable' in my eyes, because they pick and choose when they run stories with a factual grounding.

Thanks, Ensanul. The English version does not quote the source has participated in the final negotiations. However, if one uses a translator on the Bulgarian article, it does.

Cheers.

You know, when Gill spoke today, he said that 'we'd have to wait'....

I watched his interview a few times and there was something subliminal about it.

Perhaps the Times did pick up on this story.

Gill has to be careful with his words, you know Levy. So, was Levy in Monaco last night?

Yes, perhaps the Times did.

No problem mate, just hope it is done..Levy isn't suppose to be there but comolli will be there..

Ok, in football contexts the sun, marca and AS are less reputable than other newspapers. If you agree with that, and you surely do (unless youre insane)
Then retract every statement youve made and completely cancel your argument!

I see, you mean Comolli? thanks anyway. Perhaps Levy is on a business trip, perhaps he does not want to be seen in the negotiation table, or perhaps the press has made this up.
If the levy has made his decision he doesn't need to be there. I'm sure they have telephones in Monaco if needs be. I don't think he wants to meet Gill or Fergie face to face anyway if what I can make out from the reports is true.

Nope. I don't think we're going to find any common ground here, so it might be best to agree to disagree. But anyway, this is the final thing I have to say on it(If I don't reply to your reply, I'm not being ignorant, I just don't have anything to add).

The papers you mentioned are full of shit because they print lies. Consistently. However read any number of links in this thread for example, and you will see stories about Berbatov joining, staying, fighting, loving and all the rest in between.

As of yet, none of the stories are turning out to be true. So how are those papers any different to the ones you have mentioned? Their coverage is equally dishonest, or misinformed if being kind, so how can one be more reputable than another? Their respective coverages are complete waffle. Perhaps there is a difference in frequency, but their approaches are the same.
