Berbatov

Something tells me Fergie wouldn't have any problem calling Spurs bluff and letting Berbatove fester in the Spurs reserves until Christmas (cunningly sitting out all the UEFA Cup games) before we take him off their hands in the New Year - for a knock-down price - fresh and raring to go for the business end of the season.

Might not be ideal but would be very satisfying to leave Levy to stew on his mis-handling of the whole situation for another few months :D

Fresh?

He wouldn't even be in a match form if he spent half a year in Tottenham's reserves. Tottenham would not drop their valuation either, if they had any intention of doing so, they would have done it by now.

If we don't sign him now, we will never sign him. He must feel really bad now, he could have moved to United two years ago but prefered Spurs.

Serves him well, I say, although I'd love to have him at United.

If S.A.F. says he is positive about Berbs, Zenit will probably drive a hard bargain on Arshavin, which in turn can cause a domino effect on all related deals.

Take him a couple of games to get match-fit.

Not sure I understand your point about Spurs dropping their price. Of course they'll drop their price. He can leave on a Webster next summer, for a few million quid.

Thats because we where messin about as usual!! It's not like me made Bayer an offer, Berbs just knew of our interest. He was lined up to replace RVN but by the time we decided to sell Ruud Berbs had already commited to Spurs. What a cnut he actually stood by his word.

We need the Berba, well we dont need him but that said he certainly would be an excellent signing so I hope it goes through

Story just appeared on BBC website;

Ferguson cools Berbatov rumours

Dimitar Berbatov's hopes of a move to Manchester United look to be fading after Sir Alex Ferguson said he was "less optimistic" about new signings.

The United boss, who had a £20.5m bid for the striker rejected, was uncertain whether he would boost his squad before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

"I'm less optimistic so we'll carry on," Ferguson said.

"I've no idea what's going on. It's very hard to get communication with some people in life."

Berbatov has made no secret of his desire to leave White Hart Lane but Tottenham are determined that their £30m price-tag will be met.

United are unlikely to be pushed into paying over the odds and Ferguson may be prepared to miss out on Berbatov.
With just four days until the transfer deadline expires, Berbatov's future at Tottenham remains uncertain.

Spurs manager Juande Ramos left the 27-year-old out of his squad for Saturday's defeat by Sunderland, claiming the player was not focused enough.

After the game, first-team coach Gus Poyet admitted the club had no idea if Berbatov would still be a Spurs player come the end of the transfer window.

He added that the club was "going to try hard to get a couple of replacements" before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

Asked if that meant Berbatov was on his way out, Poyet shrugged and said: "What can I say? I think the best thing is to wait to 1 September.

"There is nothing to hide. We talked to him the other day and he was not in the right condition to play - I think you say in England, 'not in the right frame of mind'.

Berbatov's Dimitar Berbatov's agent Emil Danchev is believed to be in London to hold crisis talks with Tottenham.

It is understood that Danchev hopes to meet boss Juande Ramos and chairman Daniel Levy in a bid to thrash out the striker's future.

The feeling won't leave me that Berbatov will end up at Madrid, with Saviola going to Spurs as part of the deal.

Saviola is No.9 at Real, which would then become Berbatovs.

We end up with nobody and Levy gets one over on Ferguson.

The rest of the Premier League laugh at us.

He said he was less optimisitic last Friday.

It's only natural to be less optimisitic when nobody has been signed and there are only 4 days left in the window.

He said Monday night after the game that he hoped to add to the squad, but it's not easy. Whatever happened they had tried their best he said.

I'll certainly be laughing at you.

Are you seriously called Berbatov 9?

I'm still confident he'll arrive provided Real don't enter the picture.

That could throw a real spanner in the works.

feck off Levy, feck off Ramos, feck off Berbatov.

We're Man Un-iiiiiiiiiiiii-ted.

Although, a couple of weeks back, Fergie did say he was looking at a number of possibilities, perhaps that was not the case ? Was he actually working on only one and that one appears to have been stymied by Spurs' extortionate asking price. If there were other possibilties, including Huntelaar, why haven't we made a bid for him ? It now looks like Berbatov or nothing with the latter the most likely outcome. Pity, because we need additional strength upfront and it's good to freshen things up with a newcomer

Well it was deadline day we signed Wayne Rooney on, so until the window closes I'm remaining confident.

Cashley Cole signed for Chelsea on deadline day last year too. That was drawn out in a similar fashion to this one.
