Berbatov

Why is everyone ignoring fergies comments today???

It seems clear to me that we most likely arent going to sign him now, there is only 3 days left and he is now less optimistic... lets start coming to terms with the realization of no berbatov at old trafford next season, no new signings, stop kidding yourselves to believe that he is coming and its in the pipeline, because it clearly isnt anymore. The heart is too easy to listen to sometimes.

That said id absolutely love it if we got him

Dude, Benzema is not interested. He would cost a fortune.
He has openly stated that it is his desire to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Do we really want a re-run of the Ronaldo situation with another player?

I thought he was just recently quoted as saying he would move to the English league. And players state all the time where they'd prefer and then tend to go to other teams (anyone remember Mikel and Essien?). I could care less if he (Benzema) is expensive. Save the money for Berbatov and combine that with some funds for next year and make a big offer with that. He'd move for 35-40MM. The Ronaldo situation doesn't bother me a bit as long as he plays his ass of when he puts on the United kit. The Ron situation was bad but lets not forget the role the media played in that.

Next summer will be all about bringing a squad replacement in for Giggs (No easy task!!). You could also add replacements for Neville and Scholes to that as well (You never know!).

So potentially with a new striker as well next summer we could be looking to bed in 3-4 new players. Not ideal IMO.

Some of these players are already on the team. Nani and Anderson for starters. The RB spot is a tough one but Fergie will fill it.

EDIT: Hopfully Rafael can fill that spot for may years to come.

Trying to anticipate how the Champions League will pan out this year is giving me more worries about our forward line. I really, really hope we can complete this transfer to give us even more quality.

Buying Berbatov this summer and making the Tevez loan permanent would have "completed" our forward line for the next 4-5 years.

Gaz will be replaced by Rafael and Simpson

Scholes has still good 2 years left in him

What we would need is a winger. Nothing out of this world

This season we need a striker.

Ferguson cools Berbatov rumours
Dimitar Berbatov's hopes of a move to Manchester United look to be fading after Sir Alex Ferguson said he was "less optimistic" about new signings.

The United boss, who had a £20.5m bid for the striker rejected, was uncertain whether he would boost his squad before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

"I'm less optimistic so we'll carry on," Ferguson said.

"I've no idea what's going on. It's very hard to get communication with some people in life."

Berbatov has made no secret of his desire to leave White Hart Lane but Tottenham are determined that their £30m price-tag will be met.

United are unlikely to be pushed into paying over the odds and Ferguson may be prepared to miss out on Berbatov.

Spurs manager Juande Ramos left the 27-year-old out of his squad for Saturday's defeat by Sunderland, claiming the player was not focused enough.

After the game, first-team coach Gus Poyet admitted the club had no idea if Berbatov would still be a Spurs player come the end of the transfer window.

He added that the club was "going to try hard to get a couple of replacements" before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

Asked if that meant Berbatov was on his way out, Poyet shrugged and said: "What can I say? I think the best thing is to wait to 1 September.

"There is nothing to hide. We talked to him the other day and he was not in the right condition to play - I think you say in England, 'not in the right frame of mind'.

Berbatov's Dimitar Berbatov's agent Emil Danchev is believed to be in London to hold crisis talks with Tottenham.

It is understood that Danchev hopes to meet boss Juande Ramos and chairman Daniel Levy in a bid to thrash out the striker's future.

Fergie's turning the screw. It's nowhere near as important for us to get the berb than it is for Spurs to get rid. I really wouldn't be unhappy with Rooney and Tevez.

SSN will be talking to David Gill in a few minutes to get his reaction to the CL draw.

So far they have interviewed Rick Parry and Danny Fizman and have asked both if players will come in before the window. I'd expect them to ask David Gill the same.

I'll let you know when he says "it's difficult and the manager is very happy with the squad he has"

We can then close this thread once and for all.

Bad News for us, Spurs aren't going to be able to sign Arshavin when the prospect of playing Real Madrid and Juventus in the Champion league looms in Zenit.

Gill was on MUTV a few mins ago. I just walked in and only caught the end of it, but they wouldn't ask him about transfer anyway from the studio I think.

Gill was on the phone like.

ANYONE FOR A GAME OF POKER.......He will come.....

what do spurs hope to gain out of all this?
even if they get 30 mil (unlikely) who are they going to buy with almost no time left in the transfer window

Fergie likes to talk bollocks to the press. That and the fact that even if Berbatov said he wanted to stay at Spurs half of the people here would be in denial and think he's definitely still coming.

I still believe that we should hijack Spurs' player deals and sign the Ruskies from under their noses.

That will piss them off and leave with an extremely unhappy player.

:D

Very good point. Why in his right mind would he turn down Champions League football for Spurs and the Uefa Cup? :o

Because Zenit will play 6 matches in the Champions League, and then it's back to the Russian season for them. Playing in the Premier League is a better proposition than playing in the Champions League for a few games.

Gill on SSN keeping tight lipped on Berbatov but says they are working on something.

The bold words are crucial.

It means United have been trying to communicate to strike a deal, but Spurs are playing hard ball.

We'll see who cracks first.

Reporter "any signings likely before the window?"

Gill "I'm not going to comment on that. We're working on it, you know I've been doing transfers a number of years and I know it's never done till it's done either in or out. So lets see what happens, unfortunately everyone's going to have to wait. We're looking forward to the game tomorrow and we're happy to be here"

At least he didn't say nothing would happen.

I think that Spurs' will drag their heels until they sign another striker. They are avoiding the inevitable.

Yep, Gill saying what you'd expect.

He said they are working on it. He'd never comment on anything until it's done and dusted, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Looks like it could be a Monday job.
