Berbatov

 In that we are buying a seasoned and fully experienced pro who has done the majority of his footballing development. We buy very few of these types of players.

Yorke was SENSATIONAL in his first season with us and his involvement took our forward play to a new level. His understanding with Cole and Beckham in particular was near telepathic.

So for the signing of a top proven forward, I would expect him to contribute as dramtically as Yorke did .... and sustain that contribution for at least 3 years.

But not for 4 years, as you originally stated? This is fitting, considering how Yorke's fourth season went.

Despite Yorke's first two years at United, and despite the infamously 'telepathic' partnership he had with Cole, SAF nonetheless sought an even better forward line for this club by pursuing Ruud. As you will recall, Yorke lost his place to Ruud in 2001/02, and it would have been a year sooner if not for the training ground injury Ruud sustained.

In his pomp, Yorke was never the striker van Nistelrooy was, neither was he as adored, nor was his personal contribution on the same level. Ruud is, afterall, a lad who scored an average of thirty goals per season for five years.

So that having been said, I find it odd that you randomly decided that Berbatov should emulate Yorke, of all people, to be 'worth' the alleged transfer fee United are pushing through, when there are more obvious choices for comparison. Perhaps your standards for Berbatov are too low.

But on the other hand, you make a good point: Berbatov must perform at the highest level if he is to be seen as a good transfer. Of course, this is obvious will all expensive transfers, so I don't see the point in mentioning it to begin with.

Forget Spurs reserves - Berbatov MUST be sold to Manchester United

Tottenham fans seem to have got it into their heads that the answer to Dimitar Berbatov's Old Trafford sulk is to banish him to the second team. Sorry guys, that's a lot of rot!

The on-off, will-he-won't-he transfer saga of Dimitar Berbatov continues to rumble on. But, while I was bored to death with all the to-ing and fro-ing a long time ago, there's one aspect of it which has REALLY started to annoy me.
Every single time there is a debate on this issue - whether it be on the TV, radio, in an internet chat room, or in comments to articles like this one - there is always, without fail, a pocket of Spurs fans who say the same thing: ''Let him rot in the reserves!''
Now, some of the time it's just an off-the-cuff remark aimed at expressing supporters' general disgust at the fact that a player is showing disrespect to their club. Fair enough.
But a lot of the time, fans actually think this is a real solution to the problem. They genuinely believe that the right thing to do would be to relegate Berbatov to the reserve team and leave him there, in some kind of footballing limbo. Let me spell it out for you so that you understand the situation very, very clearly:
IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.
Let me put it another way. When, in the entire history of the game, has the best player at any top-level football club - someone who is worth a small fortune - been left to ''rot in the reserves'' when he's made it clear to everyone concerned that he wants to leave?

True

Fergie said about 10days ago he was looking at three or four striker possibilities. One of those was David Silva for whom, apparently, we had an offer rejected. The other known option is Dimi Berbatov but of the other two we can only speculate about. Huntelaar is a possibility. Clearly Fergie's main target is Berbatov. He admires the Cantona type ability which will clearly compliment Rooney in his "new" upfront role. Whether or not that would still be the case had be signed Silva we can only speculate on. However, we seem no closer to signing Berba and what's more Spurs now have Huntelaar in their sights. So it really is a game of cat and mouse here and I just hope we don't come up short in the process. Is it not tempting to give Spurs an ultimatum - the current offer on the table of 25m and no more - and if there is not a positive response within 24hrs, nip in and get Huntelaar instead ? After all Spurs could buy him and still not sell us Berba - sticking to their guns on the 30m + fee.

David Villa is reportedly available as of today for £35million!! Just an old thought, I felt was an approropriate comment!

For me it would be a Berba-feck-ov if we could have Villa. Much better money spent IMO. Younger and not as moody. This whole deal still bothers me. What if he doesn't get the playing time he feels he should? More sulking, wanting a move to Arse?

Don't need him.
Not pacy enough, not mobile enough and certainly not physically imposing.
Surely he will score and create plenty, but I don't expect him to be the new Cantona and/or "solve" the Rooney enigma.
Also at the price quoted, you have to consider his age and his ATTITUDE.

What else do you want?

I think Luis Fabiano would be a great signing for us.

He wouldn't cost much less than Huntelaar, is undoubtedly the worse player and he's just recently signed a new contract.

He's also shown that he takes a long while to settle in a to each foreign club he;s went to and at his age we can't wait for him to settle in.

I also think he's overrated because he had a good season last year.
