Berbatov

When did Dwight Yorke become the benchmark for United forwards? Very odd.

 In that we are buying a seasoned and fully experienced pro who has done the majority of his footballing development. We buy very few of these types of players.

Yorke was SENSATIONAL in his first season with us and his involvement took our forward play to a new level. His understanding with Cole and Beckham in particular was near telepathic.

So for the signing of a top proven forward, I would expect him to contribute as dramtically as Yorke did .... and sustain that contribution for at least 3 years.

Who says we could get Benzema anyway, let's go for what's good for us, we wont have the best manager in the world forever

its too late to get benzema this summer. if we want benzema, we'll have to go a full season not buying a striker. are you prepared to do that?

Yes I am.

We have enough goals in the squad, the squad is good enough and better this year with the full years exoerience acquired by our signings from last year. Adding Berbatov would be great but is a luxuary and not an absolute necessity. Benzema would be a much better long term project that we could mould into the type of player required by our system and players.

i got a feeling we are gonna sign him tommorrow, yesterday my feeling was not at all, but today is a new day and i feel good, its gonna happen!!!

Any actual news about the signing of Pavlyuchenko, cause i've only heard from the player himself not from the clubs involved. Seems strange to me.

http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,2483_4055164,00.html

The 26-year-old insists he is on his way to White Hart Lane after a verbal agreement was reached between the north Londoners and his club Spartak Moscow.

"I can confirm that I am joining Spurs," he said.

"Right now I am getting my visa. As soon as it is ready I will fly to London to sign a contract."

Pavlyuchenko, who impressed in Russia's run to the semi-finals of Euro 2008 over the summer, claimed he will not feature in Spartak's Champions League third-round qualifier against Dynamo Kiev as he ties up his switch to England.

He added: "I will not play in Kiev. Everything has happened very quickly so I could not even say goodbye to my team-mates."

The move is understood to be close to completion, although Pavlyuchenko's arrival would have no impact either way on Dimitar Berbatov's future at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are short on strikers even if the Bulgarian does not complete a move to Manchester United before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Pavlyuchenko revealed any reservations he held about the switch to White Hart Lane had faded.

"The only thing that stopped me from leaving was my family," he said.

"But now all doubts are behind me and I decided to sign a contract with Tottenham and the formalities are practically settled."

Spartak's general manager Valery Karpin admitted Spurs' offer had been accepted by the Russian club.

"There is a concrete sum which Tottenham proposed and we have agreed the amount," he told the Soviet Sport newspaper.

"If Roman will agree a contract then we are ready to let go him go. If Roman begins to play in England, this will be good both for him and for the team."

Fergie might spring a surprise. Levy the Tool needs to calm down and conduct the deal otherwise he will be forced to stay with an unhappy, unmotivated and non committed superstar whom he may be forced to flog in January or next summer for a fraction of what we are offering.

I believe SAF is also exploring other options.

Imagine the WANKFEST if its was announced that we were signing BENZEMA. Same happened a few seasons ago with MARCOS and we signed Carrick out of the blue.

Not interested in Huntelar or Silva.

lets sign pele and maradona

last i heard was that both were free agents

Apparently now Spartak Moscow has released a statement confirming the agreement.

Once this deal is done, Spurs will start posturing to say that this has no implications on the Berbatov situation; that they do not need/want to sell Berbatov; he'll not be sold unless we meet the asking price etc. Just wait for it to happen.

And I believe that at the end of it all, on Sept 1, he'll be sold to us around 28mil. Unless Spurs decide to make a stand in a vain effort to show that they're a 'big' club, and to save their chairman from looking like a p***k.

No they are not. They are fighting to get the best possible price for their best player. They are doing nothing wrong. It is us who are squabbling over a few petty million which we could quite easily make back.

It's not about that. If we pay the extra two or three million for Berbatov in the future teams will look back and think well if they're willing to pay that much for Berbatov then we should definitely be able to hold out for another few million.

Our prices are already inflated enough as it is.

Actually, that one dragged on for quite a bit too. And it wasn't a wankfest, let me tell you. The reaction was almost one of utter despair. It may have changed somewhat after two titles and a CL win, but it certainly wasn't that then. You've just got to love the Caf.

Berbatov annoyed by transfer talk

Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov has admitted that transfer speculation over his future at White Hart Lane is starting to affect him.
Berbatov, 26, has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea in the January transfer window, with Spurs placing a £30m price tag on his head.

But the Bulgarian said: "It's getting absurd and I'm fed up of seeing my name in the papers all the time. "I wish the press would leave me alone. I just want to play my game." I'm happy at the moment, we'll see what will happen'

He added: "It's obvious that the speculation will continue to the end. But the worst thing is that I see 'my' quotes which I've never said and it's something that makes me feel bad."

Berbatov has 13 goals this season and is reportedly attracting interest from Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge. Spurs have placed a British transfer record fee on his head and Berbatov feels it is an unrealistic price tag for his services. He also feels that Spurs, under new manager Juande Ramos, can bring trophies to White Hart Lane.

"Such hysteria seems to me stupid, I'm not worth so much money," said the former Bayer Leverkusen striker. "I'm happy at the moment, we'll see what will happen. I know I can win trophies with Spurs. "We are working to correct our mistakes and I think Juande Ramos is the man who can change things. "He's very good as a man and as an expert, he can see details which are hidden from other people's view."

Whatever can have happened to cause this?

Its funny, I don't think weve offered 25 mil at all I think itd probably around the 20 mil mark and spurs are trying there best to up the price even by trying to persuade a national newspaper to say to other spanish clubs are after him.

Spurs are a selling club and they know they have to sell him why would they loose out on 20 or so million and play him in the reserves.

Levy must be really pissed off right now. If we hold firm on our asking price I feel we will get him.

..............

Whatever can have happened to cause this?

Despair over broken promise of glory and honours?

Spurs are getting closer to signing Pavlyuchenko. Im fine with that. It seems like it is only a matter of time. Once that deal is signed hopefully they will come to their senses regarding Berbatov.

Levy prefers to let Berbatov Rot rather then sell him for less then 30m

What is going behind the scenes. (With the participation of redcafe fans).

When did Dwight Yorke become the benchmark for United forwards? Very odd.

Yorke was one of the very best strikers in the world at his best at a time where there wasn't exactly a drought in quality.

That is indeed what Berbatov should aim for if he does end up here.

[Update 354] Jasper on Berbs and Arshavin

We now very close with mancs, 26m with further 2 add ons, 15m downpayment, with further balance over two years.

Arshavin's team in discussions to bring him over, and we are now prepared to go higher. Very, very, very interesting developments over our choice of strikers all wanting to come desperately. We signed , or close to Pava with the confidence on developments with mancs, as we need targetman. If goalpost don't move, expect Arshavin, if does, striker from list of three I mentioned many a time.

CH/DM 100 sorted I'm told... plus a loan transfer.

My view on this is 'treat with caution.

PS: ITK/NITK can very seriously damage your health.

I'm starting to not give a flying berb what happens! It's all a big berb up IMO. Berbing Spurs board, who berb do they berbing think they are?

they probably think they're board members of a club that have a legally binding contract with a player. The bastards.
