I'm thinking of starting a business selling Daniel Levy "guy Fawkes doll". Any takers?
I'll have five
It's not about that. If we pay the extra two or three million for Berbatov in the future teams will look back and think well if they're willing to pay that much for Berbatov then we should definitely be able to hold out for another few million.
Our prices are already inflated enough as it is.
Exactly. But Spurs don't give a toss about what we may pay for other players in the future, and rightly so. They want the best price possible for their best player, and they are holding out for it. People calling them 'wankers' and 'cnuts' and all the other pathetic names that have been branded about are idiots.
When Real Madrid come in for Ronaldo next year let's see if we do what Spurs are doing now or do what we want Spurs to do. And when we do the former lets see if Gill gets the abuse Levy has been having. (I'm not a fan of Levy but I think he deserves credit for holding out for the figure he has previously set on Berbatov, and not budging on it (Others will disagree I'm sure))
Exactly. If Ronaldo does go next summer but Gill fecks about until after next season has started - in terms of signing a replacement - he will get abuse and deservedly so.
Equally, if Gill does his best to hold out for a huge transfer fee for Ronaldo - after he has handed in a formal transfer request and allowed his "dream" to affect him so badly that he can't even play 90 minutes of football - then he will entirely right to do so. The Webster ruling won't apply to Ronaldo and he is at an age where his transfer fee will only increase in another year's time.
None of the applies to Levy's handling of the Berbatov saga.
Apart from United fans calling Levy names for being so bloody-minded, you can bet your arse that Spurs fans - and Juande Ramos himself - are livid that he has taken so long to let a disenchanted 27 year-old player leave, and give the manager a chance to plan for a future without him.
IMO, the recent delays are all about Levy making such a cock of himself, in the immediate aftermath of the Sun article on the interview with the Norwegian fan-club. He has backed himself into a corner here and all he can do is continue to leak stories to the press about the Spurs hierarchy being "furious" whilst privately being resigned to eventually selling the player - albeit after leaving his manager in the lurch, in terms of making best use of the transfer fee and preparing his side for the season ahead.
Daniel Levy = gimp.

Berbatov
Scares back fours like pigs disturb a trough
Those who say he's not superb, feck off
Oh I believe in Berbatov
Berbatov
Lives in New Southgate, the suburban toff,
That's where I used to score the herb, er, *cough*,
Now move to Cheshire, Berbatov
Near- -ly, thirty mill, fecking hell, the kitty's spent
Mind, you, they spunked seve-enteen, on Darren Be-e-e-ent
Berbatov
How I'd love to bring a turbot off,
Its gill juncture I'd lick sherbet off,

That statement from Levy was just idiotic, no matter how much GlastonSpur tried to defend it. How do you hold on to a player when you publically accuse him of being a negative influence in the dressing room?
It was a huge mistake by Levy, just because he coughed up his cornflakes over the alleged Fergie quotes in The Sun.
If you pretend the player is perfectly happy at the club, like United did with Ronaldo, then you are under less pressure as it's easier to keep the player at the club if you don't come to a deal or you can't sign a replacement.
Spurs have lost their first 2 games of the season, and they're at Chelsea next. This whole negative atmosphere over Berbatov was Levys doing and it has cost Spurs in a big way.
Hurray!! We're closer to signing an absolute cnut.

It is becoming more and more imminent
We should aim for 25m to spend. This problem is actually bigger than just Berbatov. The thing is we spend 30m on a 27year old player (Keane was younger and went to Liverpool for merely 20) when Spurs don't want to keep him anyway!
So any future transfers then get compared to the fact that we spent 30-35m on a 27 year old striker. Okay, he's not ancient, but he doesn't have 10 years ahead of him, he's not going to be the best striker in the world etc. Based on this I'd personally prefer to spend 35m on Benzema!

1 United has contacted Lyon twice about Benzema. Lyon wants over £40 million.
2 Benzema is extremely happy at Lyon and he is the best paid player in France because of the new contract he signed a while ago. He doesn't seem to care about money though considering that he still lives in his parents basement.
