Berbatov

Had a strange dream last night where the Sun released leaked footage of a secret, unofficial meeting of negotiations between us and Spurs. It was pretty illegal. Berbatov's sister was wearing a hidden camera in her glasses, and was miked. Turns out the whole thing was a hoax set up by the Sun. Everyone in the video was an actor. Strange.

im getting myself a berbatov 14 white away kit the day he signs, and if he doesnt, then ill get either evra or anderson on the back

I would be tempted to get his name on the 3rd kit but I really don't see dh being too impressed with me if I do that (him being a Spurs fan and all that).

It's not about that. If we pay the extra two or three million for Berbatov in the future teams will look back and think well if they're willing to pay that much for Berbatov then we should definitely be able to hold out for another few million.

Our prices are already inflated enough as it is.

Exactly. But Spurs don't give a toss about what we may pay for other players in the future, and rightly so. They want the best price possible for their best player, and they are holding out for it. People calling them 'wankers' and 'cnuts' and all the other pathetic names that have been branded about are idiots.

When Real Madrid come in for Ronaldo next year let's see if we do what Spurs are doing now or do what we want Spurs to do. And when we do the former lets see if Gill gets the abuse Levy has been having. (I'm not a fan of Levy but I think he deserves credit for holding out for the figure he has previously set on Berbatov, and not budging on it (Others will disagree I'm sure))

If Ronaldo does go next summer but Gill fecks about until after next season has started - in terms of signing a replacement - he will get abuse and deservedly so.

Equally, if Gill does his best to hold out for a huge transfer fee for Ronaldo - after he has handed in a formal transfer request and allowed his "dream" to affect him so badly that he can't even play 90 minutes of football - then he will entirely right to do so. The Webster ruling won't apply to Ronaldo and he is at an age where his transfer fee will only increase in another year's time.

None of the applies to Levy's handling of the Berbatov saga.

Apart from United fans calling Levy names for being so bloody-minded, you can bet your arse that Spurs fans - and Juande Ramos himself - are livid that he has taken so long to let a disenchanted 27 year-old player leave, and give the manager a chance to plan for a future without him.

IMO, the recent delays are all about Levy making such a cock of himself, in the immediate aftermath of the Sun article on the interview with the Norwegian fan-club. He has backed himself into a corner here and all he can do is continue to leak stories to the press about the Spurs hierarchy being "furious" whilst privately being resigned to eventually selling the player - albeit after leaving his manager in the lurch, in terms of making best use of the transfer fee and preparing his side for the season ahead.

Daniel Levy = gimp.

Exactly.
Sticking pins in my Levydoll as we speak.

In lieu of any solid info on this saga, I post the latest update from our Spuds ITK, and he is saying that Berba is a done deal at 26 mio with add ons. Only time will tell I guess.

Dreams do come true Paul and informant spot on, only correction is Berbprat accepted 26m plus add ons, with 15m down payment. From what I've been hearing is that Veloso wants to come big time, just the very tricky terms etc, which club confident, Arshavin looking very, very good, and its 17.5m that's been compromised, but I'm told its grip your bum time on that one from previous dramas. Hunts, yep. If signs Bent allowed to go, if not now in January. 2 contigencies loan signings on standby, and we may go ahead on one.

Oh yeh, allegedly.

PS: ITK?NITK can very seriously damage your health

[Corluka] Looking unlikely as they have second thoughts. I actually said to one of them, yeh he's good but no pace, and gets turned too easily, and the response was quite interesting to say the least, and no, I can't quote it.

DC speaks highly of him, GP, JR not so sure about him

We can have him if we want him, put it that way, but we not made up now.

Yes but what if Madrid are refusing to stump up the fee we deem fair? Do we keep him and force him to get on with his career here, or let him go and make a laughing stock of ourselves which will affect how we negotiate and how much we get for players in the future?

Oh I agree, but like I mentioned he is holding firm on a price he has deemed to be fair. Obviously the £30m price-tag will be deemed fair by some and over-exaggerated by others. But we need a striker and we need one quick, Spurs know this and so that has probably added a few million on top. Though I do think Ramos will have been planning the future without Berbatov more or less since the minute he came. I think he knew he would be on his way out, but I don't think he expected the departure of Robbie Keane.

Daniel Levy = gimp.

I don't think it is about that at all. He wants to keep Berbatov for obvious reasons. If we are refusing to pay, he should refuse to sell. I'd do exactly the same if I were him. And I would expect Gill to do the same with our players if other clubs come calling. Players are getting to much power in terms of saying when and who they want to go to. If they have a contract they should honor it unless a club pays the fee which the selling club deems to be fair and acceptable.

That statement from Levy was just idiotic, no matter how much GlastonSpur tried to defend it. How do you hold on to a player when you publically accuse him of being a negative influence in the dressing room?

It was a huge mistake by Levy, just because he coughed up his cornflakes over the alleged Fergie quotes in The Sun.

If you pretend the player is perfectly happy at the club, like United did with Ronaldo, then you are under less pressure as it's easier to keep the player at the club if you don't come to a deal or you can't sign a replacement.

Spurs have lost their first 2 games of the season, and they're at Chelsea next. This whole negative atmosphere over Berbatov was Levys doing and it has cost Spurs in a big way.

Another reason to despise Levy for making such an arse of helping his manager get the side ready for the season ahead

We should aim for 25m to spend. This problem is actually bigger than just Berbatov. The thing is we spend 30m on a 27year old player (Keane was younger and went to Liverpool for merely 20) when Spurs don't want to keep him anyway!

So any future transfers then get compared to the fact that we spent 30-35m on a 27 year old striker. Okay, he's not ancient, but he doesn't have 10 years ahead of him, he's not going to be the best striker in the world etc. Based on this I'd personally prefer to spend 35m on Benzema!

Keane is older than Berbatov by about 6 months.

Not that it matters. It's all about getting the right player in to keep our squad ahead of the rest.

If Sir Alex thinks that Berbatov is the man then who are we to argue.

We'll get at least 5 years out of him if he signs which is plenty considering we shouldn't need to sign any more than one more striker in that time at the most.

people say that but is benzema available? I don't think so, so money isn't an issue at this time

Berbatov can play on for however many years he wants too. He could easily have a good 5+ years here. We brought in teddy when he was 31 and 9 years later he was still playing football and to a good standard too for various other clubs.

So it's not like, ok he's 27 his careers winding down. It doesn't have to be the case. Not when you have team mates around you, who have so much energy and basically do the running for you 9/10.

There is also a gulf of difference between both player qualities, where keane is a good player, and where berbs is a superstar...There is no way you can compare both the players...

True. If we did end up spending 30-35m on a 27 year old striker.

Which we won't.

1 United has contacted Lyon twice about Benzema. Lyon wants over £40 million.

2 Benzema is extremely happy at Lyon and he is the best paid player in France because of the new contract he signed a while ago. He doesn't seem to care about money though considering that he still lives in his parents basement.

Benzema, I'm sick of hearing about him now. I thought he made perfectly clear that he wasn't interested in leaving Lyon in the foreseeable future.

So can we knock that one on the head now, please?
