Come now, it doesn't take too long to skip thro all the posts....I do it every day in a couple of minutes.

That's quite a weird argument - I'm merely stating my opinion here, it might not take long to skim through the pages of spam, but would I prefer not having to do so? Yes - and that's what this is about.

And as I say, if you want news then newsnow fulfills all your dreams.

This isn't about the news, do you think every single thread in the football forums only exists of news? No, I look in here for everything related to the possible transfer; it being news, reactions to news or general discussion about the entire saga.
Then I might as well turn it around and say, if you like spam then The general fulfils all your dreams.

Those excellent posts would still be here if there wasn't any spam - just look at the first half of the thread, where Pogue was active.
I come here for those "excellent posts" not for the spam, and the spam is merely like a annoying elephant I have to go around in order to find these posts.

This thread is entertaining.

To some, there are obviously some of us who don't find the "spam" entertaining - but like I've said; I've ignored it so far, as a lot of you are entertaining yourself with this thread.

You post in other threads and you'll get a reply tomorrow.

This forum is very active, and I find it very rare that you'll have to wait until the morning before getting a discussion going - and I especially not in a thread like this, which is the hottest subject right now.

And I for one would rather wait until the next day to get a responseto my than I'd see my post being flooded 3 pages back because of spam.

It's all about quality over quantity - and we apperently define quality in different ways.

What really gets me though is that folks don't have to come into the thread if they don't like the banter.

Comments like this always annoys me - this transfer interests every single United fan around the world, and we all want to follow it - this is the only thread on the forum which focuses on this transfer. So we should just stay away if we don't like how the thread is going? That's quite ignorant, and I didn't expect something like that from you.

It's obvious that we look at things differently in terms of what constitutes a good thread, and that's why I haven't said anything before Kelvin brought it up.

I still think we could please both crowds - those who like long threads filled with a lot of "spam" - and those who prefer on-topic posts.
The best way would be to have two threads, just like we had with the Tevez saga - one in the general where people can spam away with "Berba-words", and another more on-topic thread, like all the other threads in the football forum.

We are however so close to the end now that it's hardly worth doing something drastic - us who don't like the spam will just do what we've done so far which is ignore the spam posts and let you guys enjoy yourself.

DIMITAR BERBATOV got the cold shoulder from his Spurs team-mates yesterday.

None of them spoke to the surly striker when he returned to training for the first time since being axed for Saturday’s defeat by Sunderland.

The entire Tottenham squad followed our SunSport columnist Ian Wright’s advice and sent Berba to Coventry for trying to force a move to Manchester United.

Even skipper Ledley King told his team-mates to forget about the stroppy Bulgarian and focus on beating Chelsea on Sunday.

Macari believes it is disgraceful the striker is not giving his all for Spurs.

Lots of Pavlychenko articles around atm. They all claim that he is replacing Berbatov. This was interesting though.


Fifpro, the international union for professional footballers, yesterday confirmed that the Bulgarian could effectively buy out his contract next year.

Under Fifa rules, a player can terminate their contract after three seasons as long as it was initially agreed when he was under the age of 28. Scotland defender Andy Webster has already taken this step and, after a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, paid former club Hearts £150,000 in compensation following his move to Wigan.

This option is theoretically also open to Berbatov next year, with the expectation that he would have to fund the balance of his contract as compensation. If that happened, Tottenham would only receive around £2.5 million. Spurs, though, would inevitably fight such a move and believe that a player can only invoke the ruling if he could also show that he had not contributed to his situation.

Tottenham also believe that Berbatov would be restricted to moving to a club abroad, although he could potentially then be loaned back to an English club.

Its a thread that gets millions of views. Many of us enjoy it. And anyone can join in and make it serious whenever they want. There's been no spamming of serious posts apart from Kinky trying to spoof us but that was dealt with quickly and friendlily.

Where did I say long threads were quality? Entertaining was the word I used. They can be quality at times just like any other thread. There were some quality posts in the "Don't shave the hairs off your arse" thread so I guess it depends where you're posting as to how you define quality. I'm not sure where the transfer muppet thread stands in the "quality" posts standings.
