Dimitar Berbatov could 'rot in reserves'

Tottenham have told Dimitar Berbatov that they are prepared to let him rot in their reserves unless Manchester United, or any other club, meet their £30 million valuation

Berbatov controversially missed Saturday's defeat against Sunderland, with manager Juande Ramos declaring that the Bulgarian's "head is not right" amid interest from Manchester United.

Ramos is desperate for a swift end to the problem, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy remains adamant that is down to United to come up with an acceptable offer.

If not, Tottenham sources have insisted that the club will keep Berbatov and even prevent him from training or playing with the first team. Tottenham are also considering whether to fine the 27-year-old.

So far, United have had one bid of £20.5 million turned down and are now poised to increase their offer.

Tottenham, though, have rejected suggestions that they would accept a deal in the region of £25 million simply to bring an end to the saga. Since January, they have made it clear that any deal for Berbatov would depend on a bid that at least matched the British record transfer fee of £30 million that Chelsea paid for Andrei Shevchenko.

Tottenham have also complained to the Premier League, alleging that United had illegally pursued Berbatov over the past year, and the bad feeling between the clubs has clearly not helped negotiations.

However, it is understood that the potential sale of Berbatov will depend only on Tottenham receiving the right money for a player who cost just £10.9 million in 2006. It is a risky tactic given that Ramos clearly needs a speedy conclusion to the problem.

Tottenham have lost their opening two Premier League matches and Ramos has admitted that the uncertainty surrounding Berbatov had contributed to the club's wretched start to the season.

"We need to get this matter resolved before the transfer deadline," said Ramos. "If Berbatov goes, we will need time to sign a replacement. We want to have the best centre-forward we can possibly get."

Spurs are considering making a bid for the Colombian striker Falcao, who plays for River Plate in Argentina, while the Russians Roman Pavlyuchenko and Andrei Arshavin remain options. They have already sold Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane this year and urgently need reinforcements in attack to stand a serious chance of pushing towards their stated aim of a top-four finish.

Old news, mate

I'd say it's the other way around.

He drops deep far more often than he stays up top.

Can be argued either way really. He plays the lead striker role well for Bulgaria, and I don't think Sir Alex would be looking at him if he couldn't (play that role). Although you haven't stated that but I'm guessing you think Berba can play the lead striker role pretty well?

Have two Ramli burgers thawing atm, a blue cheese burger and a cracked pepper burger, Berbatime in an hour or two

I think this whole berbatov transfer saga will go on until the point where United will nick him just before (an hour or two) the close of the transfer window.

It could, Spurs will look all the more like idiots

Yes you do, as do I.

You are a disrespectful cnut.

Fair enough, you don't rate the guy, but ffs he's one of us, what gives you the right to call him out like this? A disgrace?

Do us all a favour and keep this shit to yourself next time.

Amen

If this will go the end of the window I predict that the caf will be totally crazy next Monday. It will be a day of unparalleled muppetry. Will probably also break the online users record too.

Why are Spurs and especially Levy so stubborn in not letting Berbatov join United. I mean now they are saying that they would rather let him rot in the reserves rather than selling him for anything less than 30m. I think they must have got their head knocked about somewhere. They bought him 3 seasons ago from Leverkusen for just 10.4m. And after just two seasons he is now valued at double the price. Why don't they just accept 20 - 25m. Isn't that good business rather that letting him play for the reserves and still pay his full wages for a players whose heart now belongs to another club.

spurs dont have the balls to do that.

berbatov will be here this week.

I thought nowadays in modern football, footballer's agents play a big part in where their client (player) goes and how much he earns. They also get a huge chunk of profit out of transfers. Why can't berbatov's agent (whoever he is) work out a peace deal that would benefit United and Spurs without worrying too much of what berbatov would get because i'm sure that he is desperate to join United and play for them that he doesn't even give a damn about how much he is going to earn.

For 30mil? I'd rather let them keep him. If hopefully Saha can play about 10 or so games this season, and Manucho getting a work permit, we should be fine.

It's for Spurs to decide what to do with a 25mil deadweight on the bench, the problem is theirs, not ours.

Berba will put us over the top though, I reckon if we get him and CHelsea get Robinho we would still be favorites

Before i may have thought differently. but after tonight i tend to agree. 30m? feck that lets stick with what weve got and wait for benzema.

We need to make one final offer of say 25m plus 2m for add ons. and say to spurs listen thats our final offer its on the table until the end of the window. think about it, we wont be improving it!

Hot damn that was a good Berbaburger, toasted the Berbabun, then put put some ground mustard on it along with mayonnaise and Berbasauce(aka ketchup)

Hahha

Dont worry about Ravenblade, Berba shall soon be hear to kick his ass

Totally agree. He's not worth 30 million. Spurs have created their own disaster if they stick to that threat. Let them rot in the relegation battle.
