If he was fined, it is over fo sho

Over for show you mean? Why do I feel this Ramos' talk on sorting him out with numerous meetings a bit strange, I mean you only realize this problem since a few moments ago? Come on, this has been going on since the end of last summer.

Given the cautious comments that Ramos is coming out with, i've just got a little feeling that if Levy doesn't sort this by getting rid of Berbs and insists on playing the big 'I am', Berbs might not be the only one that wants to leave. Levy is getting towards Calderon levels at the moment.

Manchester United are expected to offer an increased bid of £25million to land disaffected striker Dimitar Berbatov – although it is understood that Tottenham have yet to receive a formal offer.

telegraph says we havent even made a formal bid yet..

I still think there is long way to go before the end of this saga, from media to everybody are just guessing the situation, nobody knows whats going on..

That was said yesterday, wasn't it? Who to believe, Fergie or the press? (difficult one, that)

Only when they're certain it'll go through than the actual bid is made, that is where the intermediary comes into play.

It looks as though Spurs have got themselves in a right pickle. This could turn out very bad for Spurs indeed to the extent they could be relegation contenders.

From a position of power Spurs have waited too long and now they've got a player who is (publically) unhappy to be with them and is making a laughing stock of them and a buying club that has demonstrated that they will not be held to ransom.

Tottenham haven't been able to get any of their strikers options because the clubs of their targets are playing the exact same game as them. It's getting to the point that they will have to buy any 2 decent striker around unless they are willing to pay the asking prices. The chance of appeasing Berbatov look very slim and fining him for not being in the right state-of-mind for the Sunderland game will/could only exasperate the problem for them.

What a fine mess!

Only 7 more days (including today) that the transfer window is open - we have 2 games within this 7 day period so its going to be a busy week.

Actually, only four more days. I'm going on a three day vacation to a resort. No phones, no computer, no tv. Just a pool, sun and loads of beer.

So, I'll be needing this resolved by Thurs.

Thanks. Hope everyone understands.

Tottenham had spent big this season, bringing in some shrewd signing which would surely bolster their team. There again, they tackled Berbatov's problem in the wrong way, which kind of puts them in a bad light considering that they always knew that the player would leave them sooner rather then later.

In my opinion they should have brought a replacement earlier which would have allowed Berbatov to go where he wanted. In that way they would have had a solid and settled side which would have been completely focused in winning the 4th CL spot. 20 - 22M is quite a great sum for a 27 yr old striker.

They won't have time to replace Berbatov and if they end up letting him go, they will have to survive with one striker in their entire squad.

You would have thought Spurs have ready replacements for leverage in negotiations, but when they fail to do that, they try to heap the pressure back on United with their positioning and it affects the team's preparation and points.

Its certianly going to be hard to replace Berbatov with just a 1 week deadline.

Levy's feckin' this up completely. I can't see Ramos being very happy about it at all. This should have been the season he starts to prove himself and Levy's infantile ego is getting in the way.

Sort Berba saga soon, says Ramos

Spurs boss Juande Ramos has called for a swift resolution to the uncertainty over Dimitar Berbatov's future, so he can "sign a replacement".

The Bulgaria striker was left out of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sunderland after it was decided he was in the wrong frame of mind to play amid interest from Manchester United.

And with just a week to go until the closure of the transfer window, Ramos has called for the saga to be brought to an end as quickly as possible so that he can bring in a replacement.

"We need to get this matter resolved before the transfer deadline," he said.

"If Berbatov goes, we will need time to sign a replacement. We want to have the best centre forward we can possibly get."

What a pathetic excuse. Disgraceful from Ramos. Blames everyone except himself for the defeat.

In my opinion he is stating the obvious. Its evident that the lone striker system is not working for Spurs and unfortunately he is forced to work that way. This situation is damaging Spurs more then its damaging us and the manager has all the rights to point it out.

There again, what I do disagree with Ramos is that he used the media to share his thoughts.

Ramos obviously wants rid and if Levy doesn't get rid, don't be surprised if Ramos threatens to get rid of himself. Levy's boxed himself in, stupid twat, pretending that he and his club are big noises. The only way out for him is for us to increase our bid, but not by much.

Levy will probably get rid of Ramos first before Ramos even think of quitting.

You are right. Same situation is happening with Ricardo Quaresma. First his club asked for ridiculous amounts of money, now they are begging Inter to take him because the player doesn't want to play with them anymore.

There's plenty of time to replace a player. They can't dilly-dally. They've got to agree a price fast and the rest is formalities.

More players are bought on the last day of the transfer window than at any other time.

Keane talking sense!

From the Mirror:

Tottenham 1-2 Sunderland: Roy Keane has his say on Berbatov saga
By Neil Jonathan 25/08/2008

Roy Keane has told Tottenham to get rid of Dimitar Berbatov if they want to get on with their season.

And the Black Cats boss, who talks as tough as he used to tackle, says he would personally drive any disgruntled player from the Stadium of Light to their new club to stop any outbreak of player power.

Evidence to back his argument came as his Sunderland side deservedly earned their first league victory at White Hart Lane in 30 years after a solid team performance laced with individual skill.

But the feat was over shadowed by the Berbatov affair as the brooding Bulgarian was left out because he lacked focus - and Spurs lost again.
Keano admits he has not yet faced the scenario of a big four club seeking to steal one of his crown jewels.

But his attitude on and off the pitch suggests he would not stand for such nonsense.

The Irishman said: "I'm sure it's a difficult situation, but you've got to deal with difficult situations. It's got to be the manager who is the most powerful.
"If a player did not want to play for me, I know what I'd do - I'd drive him myself to wherever he wants to go just to get rid of him.

"I've said it before, no player is bigger than any club.

"Tottenham have lost today, but, long term, they might be best to do business. You've got to lose to win sometimes.

"I had a player two years ago, who I heard had been speaking to another club, and I just sold him. I wouldn't try too hard to talk a player out of moving."

But Keane could not hide his surprise that Champions League-chasing Spurs had got themselves into this mess after losing their other top striker Robbie Keane to Liverpool.

He said: "If you want to go places, you certainly try to hold on to your best players.

"But if you've got big ambitions, like Tottenham, someone once taught me 'no' is a sentence. Just say no."

Yet with Berbatov now effectively on strike, that point has passed and Spurs' best hope is to extract more money from Manchester United.

Keane added: "You still try to do the right bit of business for the football club.

"I don't me an you should lose money, but you lose the player and try to get the right deal for your club. Trust me, there are not many top strikers out there, so you hold out and, eventually, these big club shave to pay the money."

Keane's bluntness was in stark contrast to the attitude of Juande Ramos, the Spanish coach who walked out on his contract at Seville last season.
Ramos said: "It can't last any longer than a week because the transfer window closes on the 31st. Players go through physical fitness issues, good or bad and in this case it's psychological and we've just go to deal with it."

Really it should have been Spurs' sporting director Damien Comolli or chairman Daniel Levy, who handles their transfers, answering the questions about Berbatov.
