Berbatov

That's lovely for you Mainoldo

But I care. And I don't think I'm alone. Not that I'd give a crap if I was

But think about it... Would you be unhappy if he joined? Would it bother you so much that you could get behind him?? It might bother you know but we all know performance on the pitch seem to make people small minded and caring about the attitude of a possible new United signing is a waste of time..

Sultan, perhaps its a case of Spurs negotiating, but they shouldn't be bullied into selling below the price they want for the player. They rightly hold all the cards, no matter how much of a cock the player acts. I wouldn't be unhappy to see Berbatov at United, we could do with a top striker like him leading the line. But I'd be equally happy seeing us not get him. I want to stop seeing players acting like twats to break contracts. This summer has been quite refreshing, many have tried it, and they've not moved anywhere and simple caused themselves hassle and grief

He had his choice when he voluntarily signed a contract by his own hand. Its not about not wanting the player, its about not wanting to see players acting in such a manner. If Berbatov was acting like this at United wanting a move elsewhere, I'd be fecking livid with him. So would the majority of people on here. Put its suddenly ok if its United benefitting. Well I'm sorry, I don't see it that way

You know my view on the Ronaldo saga - I would have hoped United sold him had Real put in a realistic bid to suit both parties. Once a player wants to move it makes no logical sense to keep an unsettled player.

I really don't know how Berbatov has conducted himself behind the scenes, but it's a fact he has never hidden his desire to join United, and Spurs have always said there is price to pay. I can't see Spurs being done financially on this deal, if both clubs can come to an agreement, it's for the mutual best of all parties.

I am not being hypocritical, honest...;)

Thats funny, I swear I read him mouthing off in the press last week

And I'm sure he refused to play football for his current club today

And I saw a photo of him signing a United shirt in the week

And some of his performances on the pitch have been highly questionable, to the point where you wonder if he's sulking and intentionally not giving his best

I'd say that was dispicable behaviour really

I'm not gunna pretend its not ok for clubs like Madrid and our own players to treat this club with contempt, only to say its fine when it happens the other way around. Cases like this and the Ronaldo one are of course different, but there's a common theme. The player has agreed to a contract with his current employers, and he's acting like a twat because he doesn't like it anymore. I say tough, you signed it and you took the money that went with it. You should have negotiated a get out clause at the time, or a shorter contract

I have to agree with Brad.

I was an advocate of us signing Berbatov until a couple of weeks ago even though he wouldn't have been my first choice. But now I'm not so sure. I don't like players who won't give 100% for their clubs. He is obviously a prick.

I guarantee you that you wouldn't have seen Tevez not put in 100% for West Ham even if he wanted a transfer, or Rooney for Everton.

Berbatov has undoubted quality but his high opinion of himself and the fact that he seems to be a right bollox could disrupt the dressing room.

I'd prefer if we went for another striker at this stage.

And if this was happening at United and there was a player doing the same type of thing to force a transfer, there would be absolute outrage on this forum.

But he wants to play for United. Which can't be a bad thing.

...and that would be who, then?

We have put our eggs in one basket. Time is now running out. Its berber or bust.
Any transfer these days involving high profile players and clubs is going to be protracted and involve some nastiness for players, clubs and supporters.

Watch some foreign team come in with a bid now and take him away in days.

Ronaldo wanted to move to Madrid this summer. We knew it at the time, he's admitted it later on. The reason he's still here is because United wouldn't sell, whatever the rhetoric may say otherwise

Now, if Ronaldo has a great season again, and United are successful: where does that leave your contention that it makes no logical sense to keep an unsettled player?

The same goes with Barry at Villa. And the same could yet go at Spurs with Berbatov. When the transfer window shuts and its an impossibility to move, suddenly the tables are turned, and its in the players own interest to put the performances in

I don't know who, maybe all out bids for Huntelaar or Villa. Can you really be happy with the way he isn't even making an effort at Spurs? What happens if he gets in a bad mood at United? Will he refuse to play for us?

I agree with Brad, his behaviour is despicable.

I think Sully wanted to say that he does not want a player who wishes to move from United. It is a fair stance.

Probably not, but if Chelsea/Real Madrid/Inter Milan were linked to him, do you think he'd want to sign for them? I think it's more that he wants to play for a top team and challenge for titles than his actual love for United.

It seems quite clear to me at this point that it is Berbatov or nothing.

Especially with Fergie's stubborn nature when chasing certain players.

Yea I agree it is Berbatov or nothing. I just wish we hadn't left it so late and that there were other options available.

I'd still look for Huntelaar and see what happens but SAF isn't going to do that.

Ronaldo isn't unsettled though. He's quite happy to stay at United. No comparison. Now if he'd have handed in a transfer request and made all sorts of Real noises that would have been different.

My support for United is not dependant on our on field success - I'd rather we have players fully committed to the cause.

My opinion of Ronaldo will not change, until and unless he signs a new contract and decides to stay beyond this season.

That's a fair stance to take

But its a different stance than claiming it makes no logical sense to keep an unsettled player
Depends on the situation.

If Berbatov is going to be a problem in the squad, then there is no point keeping him. Sticking 20-30m asset in reserves or in the stands will never happen.

Same with Ronaldo. If Fergie thought Ronaldo would be a disruptive influence, he would not have holded on to him just to prove a point to Real. IMO of course.

I agree with Brad, his behaviour is despicable.
His behaviour is great as far as United is concerned and I'm not concerned about anything else. If Spurs think his behaviour is despicable I can just laugh. I'd love to see the Sun catch him wearing a United shirt. This is a dog eat dog world. United are being very professional. The berb is looking out for himself and we are the ones who are going to benefit from this whole scenario. Fk everyone else.
Hope that helps.

If we sign him tomorrow (our lawyers are slaves, we make them work sundays) - can he play against Pompey?

If he comes to United and then decided he wants to sign for Real Madrid next season and acts in the same manner, you'll be the first one bitching over it. Don't pretend that its any different to what was happening with Ronaldo. Just look at all the anti-Madrid stuff that is said in the Ronaldo thread.

Deal has to be approved through the FA - so depends if they are open Bank Holidays.

Don't get me wrong, if we sign Berbatov I will support him and wish he does well because if he does well the club goes well. I just don't condone his behaviour at the moment,

Evra and Saha behaved in the same way to get a move to United. Berbatov is just doing what his agent tells him in order to get his "dream" move.

Neither does the general opinion of fans. But we will take him all the same. He is not the only player to behave this way to get to us e.g. Saha and Hargreaves. They have since been accepted. Things need to change regarding contracts but what else can you do?

I don't know but you're right about the contracts.

Ok ok, Berbs is the last transfer we will support in this way..

Well.. unless theres someone we really really need.

We play within the rules. Because the rules are fkd up its not our fault. This deal is NOT the same as Ronaldo's and the berb does NOT dream of Madrid. If he's a success he'll not want to be anywhere BUT at OT. If he's not a success who gives a fk if he wants away.
