Berbatov

Watch the post-match interview, I felt a tiny bit bad for Poyet. He has to come out all the time to try and smooth over a crap performance by the Spuds (3 wins since Carling Cup win), and today, make excuses for Berba moving to us.

If Levy hadn't been such a drama queen, he'd have sold Berba, and used that money along with Keanes money to get the players they want (Arshavin).

Now they're in a situation with only one half decent striker, and a limited time frame to get the players they need.

Still, as long as we get Berba, all is good.

I agree... but yes it serves their damn right for being an arse(greedy arse) with Berbatov. Now they have a week to look for replacements or a whole season with a player that mite not even come good untill November!

Ridiculous behavior by Berbatov, but Spurs have really fecked it now. They're going to start panic buying if he moves on.

Berbatov in strike mystery

Published: Today

JUANDE RAMOS has dismissed claims Dimitar Berbatov went on strike against Sunderland.
The Bulgarian was left out of Tottenham's 2-1 defeat, with boss Ramos insisting the Manchester United target was not in the right frame of mind to play football.
But Berbatov was only omitted after HE told Ramos he was not in the "right condition".
However, Ramos then denied that last year's joint-top scorer was effectively on strike.
The Spaniard said: “He hasn’t got any power. If he is in no condition to play the game he is not going to play - that is the same as any other player.
“He didn’t play because he wasn’t in the right condition - this is what he told me before the game when I spoke to him.
“It’s a situation that is very personal, there are players able to play under these circumstances and others whose head is not right. Berbatov is in the latter category."
Ramos will meet Berbatov again on Sunday to discuss the player's future.
He added: “We’ll have to wait and see. We’ll speak to the player and make a decision on his future.
“We’ll clarify a few points and see if there is a decision to be made.
“We’ll meet primarily to know if he is in any state to play in the next match or we have to find another solution.”

Poor form from Spurs to make Berbatov a villain for dropping him out of the squad. The Spurs management have always insisted he's been very professional during the summer. Ramos likely knew all summer he was to be sold, and used him sparingly even in pre-season games. He was left on the bench last game and out of the squad today to avoid injury. Claiming Berbatov was not right in the head is shifting blame - I doubt he is that unprofessional - then again he is a footballer. The Spurs management are on a public relations exercise of shifting blame for allowing their best player to move.

This saga cannot be compared to Ronaldo's saga over the summer, because United point blank refused to sell despite the best efforts of both Ronaldo and Real - Spurs have never refused to sell, only haggled over the price, and wanted to save a few millions by making Berbatov hand in a transfer request.

They've just met up on Friday, and now another date has been set up for Sunday, must be the Ramly Berber at work!

If by that you mean, Rooney was/is not a hardcore Everton fan, I disagree with ya. He choose to join Everton over Liverpool academy where he had the cheek of going in a Everton top for try outs.

Heard that when he had a trial as a youngster with Liverpool, he turned up in a blue shirt:lol:

Agreed, I find it very hard to believe that a professional footballer can't be in the 'frame of mind' to play football. Although looking at the Poyet interview he seems to be honest about it, unless he's a brilliant liar.

Berbatov has already been fined before by Spurs earlier in the summer, so I would say he probably has been unprofessional. We are talking about a player who sulked several times when left on the bench by Jol and showed attitude when asked to come on as a sub.

Good to hear, Sults has pointed out a few good points, so what's your view on Ramos' statement?
Ramos only wants to meet him on Sunday to make sure he carries the right suitcase and to get the $100 back that he borrowed from him last month. All else is settled. Ramos really has no control. Levy's the man who's got them into this mess. He now has to get them out of it and his first move, in order to settle his team and his supporters down, is to get the berb on his bike and outta there. 25M might do it now although I suspect it will end up as 28M.

Roger.

The events of today are very promising indeed. I hope an end to the Berbatov saga is soon. His position there is more than untenable now and they simply must sell. His fee will help them to bring in the committed players they need. For their sake they better not wait too long. Wake up Levy and accept a bid!

What has Berbatov done though? Really? He hasn't been mouthing off to the press, he wants to leave which is fair enough, and has made Spurs aware of this, and that is that as far as i'm aware. He didn't refuse to play today from what i hear, his manager felt he was not in the right frame of mind that is all.

Hardly despicable behaviour or anything, cannot be compared to the likes of Saha and Hargreaves.

Thats funny, I swear I read him mouthing off in the press last week

And I'm sure he refused to play football for his current club today

And I saw a photo of him signing a United shirt in the week

And some of his performances on the pitch have been highly questionable, to the point where you wonder if he's sulking and intentionally not giving his best

I'd say that was dispicable behaviour really

I'm not gunna pretend its not ok for clubs like Madrid and our own players to treat this club with contempt, only to say its fine when it happens the other way around. Cases like this and the Ronaldo one are of course different, but there's a common theme. The player has agreed to a contract with his current employers, and he's acting like a twat because he doesn't like it anymore. I say tough, you signed it and you took the money that went with it. You should have negotiated a get out clause at the time, or a shorter contract

Sultan, perhaps its a case of Spurs negotiating, but they shouldn't be bullied into selling below the price they want for the player. They rightly hold all the cards, no matter how much of a cock the player acts. I wouldn't be unhappy to see Berbatov at United, we could do with a top striker like him leading the line. But I'd be equally happy seeing us not get him. I want to stop seeing players acting like twats to break contracts. This summer has been quite refreshing, many have tried it, and they've not moved anywhere and simple caused themselves hassle and grief

How about who gives a feck!! His acting like this because he doesn't have choice! You can't put every individual in the same boat. If you look at it from his view he's 27 going on 28 and he knows that this will probably be his last chance to move to United and play Champions League football. Next year his a year older, players that aren't on the market may soon become available i.e. Benzema, with come knocking for the last 2 seasons now next year is not guarenteed. Also please explain how you don't want a player that is showin some much drive to play for us?

He had his choice when he voluntarily signed a contract by his own hand. Its not about not wanting the player, its about not wanting to see players acting in such a manner. If Berbatov was acting like this at United wanting a move elsewhere, I'd be fecking livid with him. So would the majority of people on here. Put its suddenly ok if its United benefitting. Well I'm sorry, I don't see it that way

Brad. Get a life... Who cares!! I could reply back with how the Ronaldo and Berbatov situation is different but you know what i'll just be honest and say it's fecked up when it happens to us but i couldn't give a shit when it happens to someone else!! Which is why i laugh everytime i hear new Robinho Stories.. and laugh at those Spurs fans that were laughin at us when Ronaldo looked destined to leave! That life!

disagree with this. they have every right to try to hold onto arguably their best player, or, if they decide to sell him, then do it at the highest possible price.

what Levy must, however, shoulder the blame for is failing to see when he's fighting a losing battle, and failing to execute contingencies long before the seasoned started.

Brad's ranting has a true point. Player power is getting out of control. I want Berbatov too but not this way. Its a shame but I will accept him anyway.

His been polite for the friggin last 3months. With a week left and his dream move looking bleek AGAIN why not fight!!

That's lovely for you Mainoldo

But I care. And I don't think I'm alone. Not that I'd give a crap if I was

Thats true but really i don't know the figures but £25m seems like a really good price, £28 probably really really good business if it appears but fighting for £30m when you know that other areas still need strenghting is a bit silly, i could say the same with Villa in terms of price! £18m on barry isn't a good 'investment' neither is £30 for Berbatov
