Berbatov

Ronaldo hasn't always talked about his dream, that's bullshit.

After the WC he talked about joining Madrid or Barcelona, he was just scared of coming back to Manchester as he didn't know what would happened. Like feck he always talked about his dream of Madrid.

Allegedly we've made a bid of £25 million take it or leave it.

That's in one of the Sunday papers, was on BBC news just with their little tomorrow's papers review bit, didn't see which one it was but it was by David Harrison.

A weird thing has happened to Bahama since the Ronaldo thread was shut. He seems to have bought into all the Ronaldo bullshit that for so long he rightly resisted!
My stance on Ronaldo has not changed from post #1.
He's the Best Player In The World
I didn't want to lose him
He won't be a United legend unless he hangs around a fair bit more.
I believe all is well with him and Fergie and the team
I'm glad he's staying
I won't sing Viva Ronaldo for a while
He's a cnut.

Hope that helps

1) I'd argue Messi, but I'm splitting hairs. He was the best last season no doubt
2) Fair, who wants to lose their best player?
3) He won't be a United legend full stop now
4) I believe he's had no choice but to make his peace and get on with it. I'm sure there's still team spirit there, at the same time I wouldn't be suprised if some of the players thought he was a dick too
5) Fair, who wants to lose their best player?
6) Ay, and you'd probably get flak if you tried
7) Amen to that

Just on BBC News 24 reviewing back pages.

One of the tabloids back page leading story is Berbatov to United for £25m.

Probably NOTW.

I thought that was a song :(

I saw that too. A particularly bitter Scouse fan doing the reviewing

Couldn't see the huge difference between the way we're conducting ourselves and the way Madrid did

As I say, bitter

I think we will get Berbatov for sure now if we only manage to agree a price with spurs. Poyet sounded like he had given up on Berbatov to stay with them.

3) If he stays out for the length his contract or helps us win 2 more CLs, he will become a legend. People will easily forget this summer. Quite unlikely though.
4) He wanted to leave but doesn't mind staying either. Like I said in the Ronaldo thread, its like someone wanting a BMW but has a Mercedez Benz now. If he can't get the BMW he'd still be happy with his Merc.
6) Viva Ronaldo probably won't get sung for a while yet. Depends on his return and how the team are doing.
7) Definitely a cnut, but not the first cnut to play for United.

8) I quite like this numbered way of responding to posts. Could help us when debating with the likes of the Chief.

25M FOR BERBATOV
United's take-it-or-leave-it offer to Tottenham

By DAVID HARRISON, 23/08/2008

MANCHESTER UNITED have made a £25million take-it-or-leave-it bid for Dimitar Berbatov.

Sir Alex Ferguson made his move yesterday and now expects to land the Bulgarian by the end of the week. Berbatov, who handed in a transfer request last week, was left out of the Spurs side which crashed 2-1 at home to Sunderland yesterday.

Furious Spurs boss Juande Ramos admitted: “The player wasn’t in the right condition to play. It’s the club’s decision whether to fine him. I spoke to him before the game.

"It doesn’t matter how good a player is, if he is not in the right frame of mind, then he will not perform well. I did not feel he would be good for the dressing room.”

Berbatov is desperate to go and with Ferguson turning up the heat with his latest bid, it seems certain Spurs will be forced to sell.

United had a £20m bid turned down 10 days ago and were told to come back with £30m.

A source close to the deal said: “Sir Alex is not going to be held to ransom. Tottenham have got their own deals lined up and they all depend on Berbatov going through. It’s in everybody’s interest to do business quickly.”

Ramos has identified Emile Heskey as a £10m replacement but Wigan boss Steve Bruce wants any deal done quickly.

Ferguson coy over transfer targets

Last week Sir Alex Ferguson had a twinkle in his eye and a promise that Manchester United might surprise everyone by bringing in a new player before the start of the season.
Nothing happened. Mikaël Silvestre was unexpectedly sold to Arsenal, but that doesn't really count, and neither does Djibril Cissé snubbing Manchester City in favour of a loan move to Sunderland.
Now Ferguson is shaking his head and saying he is less optimistic about making a signing. 'Maybe, maybe not,' he offers with a shrug, so expect Dimitar Berbatov to be signed before tomorrow's game at Portsmouth in time to make his debut in the Super Cup match against Zenit St Petersburg in Monaco on Friday.
Do not expect Ferguson to switch targets and come back with Zenit's Euro 2008 star Andrei Arshavin instead, because United had the Russian watched several years ago and decided not to pursue their interest. 'He's obviously a good player, but he plays a particular role for his club and his country,' Ferguson says. 'He wasn't what we were looking for, but you have to say he was outstanding in the match against Holland.'
Ferguson may be relaxed about the transfer window closing before a new striker has been secured - 'We won the two main prizes last year and this is far from the worst squad we have ever had' - though should Chelsea add Robinho to their summer capture of Deco and continue their solid start to the season, United fans could soon be moaning about the club resting on their laurels.
'I think they know me a little better than that by now,' Ferguson counters. 'They know I will always try to improve the squad if I possibly can, and they know there is no point buying players who won't do that. The transfer market can be frustrating at times, but I don't think our fans will be jumping off a cliff if we don't sign anyone. I don't think anyone will mind Mikaël joining Arsenal either. He's been a great servant to this club, he's lost his place to Patrice Evra, and after nine years spent at United you have to treat a player fairly.'
Rather disappointingly, Ferguson did not watch the England friendly in midweek - Setanta's studio scouts could be missing a trick there - so he has nothing further to add to the great debate over Wayne Rooney's positional deployment other than the observation that 22-year-olds generally are prone to tiring themselves out running in search of the ball. Rooney himself, ineffective in his last two matches against Newcastle and the Czech Republic, says he does not mind where he plays.
'If we bring in a striker who can help the team score goals that will be fine with me, I'll try to fit in with him,' Rooney explains. 'If we don't, it will be me and Carlos [Tevez] again like last season. Carlos likes to drop in just behind the front man, that's probably his best position, so I'll have to stay further up. I won't have a problem with that, I think it's what the manager wants me to do anyway.'
The manager does not mind Rooney playing unselfishly for the team and tearing around trying to win the ball back, he just thinks he should spend more of his time on the edge of the opposing penalty area instead of on the edge of his own half. 'If he gets to the edge of the box he will make more goals and score more goals,' Ferguson says. 'He'll work that out for himself eventually. He does waste energy at times, but at 22 I don't think that's too much to worry about. It's just a question of channelling his energy and enthusiasm.'

Emile Heskey as a replacement for Dimitar Berbatov.

Levy and the Spurs fans could not put a positive spin on that one, even if they had few alternatives.

Can't see it happening.

Its all very promising again. I want a deal to be struck soon to put us all out of this suspense. Berbatov staying at Tottenham is no longer a viable option. They need him gone so they can bring in new faces and we could do with his ability up front.

Ramos: Hmmmmm, looks like Berbatov is going then. That leaves me with a bit of a hole up the top. But who can I get to replace him? A silky magician of a player, who thinks outside of the box? One who with the deftest flick of his boot can conjure that spark of inspiration and change the match in our favour. A maestro of the modern game who can ignite the creative spark in the team and lead us to the elusive promised land of the top 4... But who?

Of course!
