Fergie thinks our current squad are good enough to win this year. That could be right, but he got to remember that Ronaldo had a hell of a season and could very well have a season who dont take him up to that level.(I hope he will though, I wish) So when Ronaldo, Tevez or Rooney are out, our team will hurt. Its not enough with just one of them on the pitch, and we have played on of the many times with mixed luck. Imo we need Berbatov this season.

i have inside knowledge from a source at ot. i am itk. berbatov is certain to sign for us this week and will be in the team to face portsmouth. unless he doesn't sign. then he won't be.

Hehe...

Variation of the old Gazza..."back in 2 weeks" that went on for almost a whole season.

Berb to United this week-theme has been going on for what? 4-6 weeks?

I think Fergie is just playing it down. Deep down he knows we need someone otherwise he wouldn't be prepared to pay what seems £25M+ for Berbatov.

I have heard something will happen tomorrow from a norwegian source who use to know this and that :) I really hope its good information, since we really ned Berbatov.

you don't have nerwegian source, you just dream all the time to have one.

Understood but realistically this length of time is stupid and benefits neither team. Its silly really.

It is indeed silly.

IMO, the main reason this is dragging on is because Levy is letting his emotions get in the way of his brain. He wants to make some sort of statement to the fans about Spurs not being a selling club. Which means - even though he is resigned to selling Berbatov - he wants this to drag on until 11.59pm on August 31st, so he can pretend they did their best to hold onto him.

Meanwhile both sides are in limbo and likely to drop points, left right and centre, while the managers are unable to put the finishing touches to their team.

Well done, Daniel Levy. You gimp.

It amazes me that he's so successful (what do I know)!

Here's a man whose prepared to lose 5 to £10m just so that the player doesn't sign for United. Some people will cut their nose off to spite their face! That Carling Cup win has certainly given him allusions of grandeur.

Dimitar-Berbatov-benched-at-Boro_1118194.jpg

Everytime that I look at Berbatov
I can’t help thinking Ferguson should have
Louis is gone
Broken down bone after bone
We have got to pay
If we want to prise Dimi Berbatov away

I know what Fergie knows
Berba will come from where Ronaldo goes
I know its everybodys sin
Dreaming under contract is how you gonna win

He was playing for Bayer for ages
but we had RVN in those stages
Now we know its true
Berba is red through and through

Listen Fergie, time for giant bids
Grab Gill by the balls and go and meet them Yids,
Sign Berba, make it today
Maybe tomorrow, next we go to Pompey away
(x2)

Dream on, dream on
Dream yourself that move comes through
Dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on...

Dont know if been posted, cant be arsed trawling through -

However, the transfer saga has entered a crucial stage following Berbatov's request, followed by comments on his arrival for international duty.

'I'm now in Tottenham but no-one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream,' Berbatov said.

The 27-year-old, who played 25 minutes at the Riverside after coming off the bench, defended his manner on the bench.

He added: 'If I had been laughing when I was on the bench, people would say I was an idiot.

'Eric Cantona never smiled, but I don't know if anyone ever asked him why he didn't look happier.'

Spurs are continuing to look at forward before the end of the transfer window. At the moment they are concentrating away from Andrei Arshavin, but could return to the Russia forward if other avenues are blocked.

The result against Newcastle was not good. Our obvious weakness was shown up yet again. Time to do something about it I think. Berbatov has finally broken his silence and its up to us to get things moving now. Dont let a few extra millions stand in the way of our long term success. Its a calculated risk but it may be well worth taking.

our obvious weaknes being we struggle when weve got 7 first teamers out of action, then yes ure right.

Dont get me wrong id like us to sign berbs but hes not the prodical son, hes a dam good player but wouldnt nessesarily have won us the game yesterday.

the likes of ronnie, nani, anderson, teves were bigger losses yesterday than not having signed berbs

I thought the obvious weakness yesterday was the midfield, when Carrick went off we were over-run in the middle of the park.

A striker would be great no doubt, but yesterday we were desperate for a midfielder to pull the strings.

My question is forget about whats happening in midfield/wings, if we could only field 2 players as strikers out of Berbatov, Tevez & Rooney who would you go with?

Tosh lad...tosh. First teamers he says.

OF that lot only tevez and ronnie start.

Chelsea had drogba and essien oot and demolished a superior pompey team...

Tis clear we need a striker..as clear as a baby's bottom

What about Robbie Keane, isn't he a better player to make a statement?

At this point, I don't feckin' care who they get up front...

Now, it seems to be a matter of urgency. It has to happen, yesterday. Someone like Berbatov or Santa Cruz or that guy from Villa... has to be training with the squad by Wed.

The Forward strength is all but non-existant...

There has barely been a mention of the shit condition of the mid-field, as to why there haven't been any efforts towards shoring up a foreseeable problem that has been mounting since there has been talk of Giggs and Scholes retirement, within the next season or two.

The Glazers, most likely, have made a bundle by winning the Double... Open up the bank account assholes!!!

as fergie has stated squad is stronger than last season yet were sooo desperate for a striker this season. Im still agreeing that I would like berbs however getting those off the treatment table will be a bigger bonus than a new striker.

We won a double with this squad yet now its not good enough, and u say im talking tosh pfft

Right, yes we need a striker. Campbell looked good and i would have no problems him being our number four striker this season.

But yesterday we were missing, Nani, Anderson, Carrick (he didn't last long), Hargreaves, Park, Tevez, Saha.

Yes Chelsea were missing drogba and essien, but they weren't also missing their backups. And when you play one up top as they do, losing one striker is not a big deal.

absolute clown, where do we find these cretins from

our midfield was missing

hargreaves
anderson
ronaldo
nani
park

carrick went off injured

ffs why the hell do we need to shore up our midfield. Its just fine, only needs to get a few back fit, from the olympics and stop head butting people and were class in midfield

Portsmouth were rank - put in 4 mediocre players in midfield against Chelsea's 5 good ones didn't compete and (surprise, surprise) got reamed.

Did you even watch the Chelsea match?

The amount of times Diarra, Diop and Krancjear gave the ball away, my gran would have scored four goals against them...

When Count Berbula speaks of following his dream, I've certainly always believed he meant to take a dump in some lady's handbag.

Something with his mysterious gaze and moody appearance, maybe.

Good, hope it teaches some wags a good lesson.

They gave the ball away because of the incredible pressing work chelsea did...do you really think butt, guthrie and milner are better on the ball than the above mentioned??

United's First Choice Line-up

VDS
Brown Rio Vida Evra
Ronaldo Scholes Carrick Nani/Hargreaves
Rooney Tevez

Half time yesterday, and no Ronaldo, Tevez, Carrick, Nani/Hargreaves. Still United have the squad to cope with those 4 missing, but when the replacements, Anderson, Park, Nani/Hargreaves, Saha are all missing, and then Giggs being forced off, it is obvious we are going to struggle

The midfield was the problem yesterday, not the attack, but another striker is still a priority.

I think SAF would agree with you there - why else did he go after David Silva?

With Giggs and Carrick not lasting the 90 minutes, Tevez, Ronaldo, Hargreaves(or Anderson) and Park (or Nani) would have all played a part, most of them for almost the whole game. What is "tosh" is attempting to claim that Tevez and Ronaldo were our only notable absentees.

Chelsea's injury problems weren't a patch on ours.

None of this doesn't mean we don't need a striker, of course, not so long as Louis Saha is a member of the squad in name only.

They may not be first teamers but Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Hargreaves, Park, Tevez and Saha are all quality players who we would have made as much of a difference as Berbatov would have I would think.
