I would put in about a back door.. but..

ah sod it,

yeah they have put a chastity belt on us, preventing us from getting our cocks out just yet. But we are all hoping we can find a back door or passage for berbs.

You want us to enter through berbatovs back passage? Sounds a little poofy :)

Just heard that transfer deadline day will now be the 1st of September, as August 31st falls on a Sunday. Hopefully that wont come into play here though, and we get him before the Pompey game. As for Berba potentially having been able to make a difference yesterday, well obviously there would have been a fair chance going by his quality. It doesn't matter how many of Frazier's chances he would have put away or whatnot as it's impossible to say if we would have played in a similar style for a start. Hopefully we'll just get him in fecking soon.

If i was fergie, i would pay £15 mil for santa cruz. He's great in the air and holds the ball up well and fits our style of play. We have money in tha bank if we need it for the january transfer window. Then spurs are up shit street with a player that doesnt want to play with them! That would teach them to be greedy.

What you mean like us and Ronaldo?

They'd be delighted to keep him...

Good player, but I really hope Berbatov will be our man.

To be honest I'd rather get a top quality player for £25m then get just a good player for £15m and teach Spurs a lesson. I care more about how we do than how they do.

Well i know that, but santa cruz is just as good as berba at half the price imo. I also think football clubs are suffering including United in these times of an early recession. We need the money and Berba is just too expensive.

Its just the old expression '"2 birds, 1 stone". We get a great player (santa cruz) and spurs are in crap.

Is it a dream to get both? Only GodSAF knows.

It's not about how good they are right now, it's how they would improve the team and how they would be able to link up with the team. I don't think Santa Cruz would do as well here as he does at Blackburn, because they cross it a lot more than us. I don't think he's that good a player in all honesty.

I really couldn't care less if Spurs are in crap, the only time I would take any real notice is if they got relegated. And even without Berbatov I don't think that would happen.

Dont understand what you mean by teaching Spurs a lesson there mate. He signed a contract with spurs so they've every right to hold on top him or get the as much as they can for him.

Read the post I was quoting, those were his words not mine.

Spurs still keen to keep Berbatov

Tottenham are expected to remain reluctant to sell Dimitar Berbatov despite the Bulgaria striker submitting a formal transfer request on Friday.

It is understood that Berbatov handed in his request to sporting director Damien Comolli and chairman Daniel Levy the day before he was named on the bench in the 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

And the transfer saga has entered a crucial stage ahead of Bulgaria's midweek friendly with Bosnia-Herzegovina, with the 27-year-old telling The Times; "I'm now in Tottenham but no-one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream."

Berbatov, who played 25 minutes at the Riverside after coming off the bench, defended his manner when he wasn't on the pitch.

He added: "If I had been laughing when I was on the bench, people would say I was an idiot.

"Eric Cantona never smiled, but I don't know if anyone ever asked him why he didn't look happier."

Earlier in the summer, Levy feared Berbatov would have a negative influence on the dressing room after making it clear he wanted to leave for Manchester United.

United had a bid of £20.5million rejected last month and have not made another offer, although Spurs have insisted they do not want to sell.

Spurs are continuing to look at forward before the end of the transfer window. At the moment they are concentrating away from Andrei Arshavin, but could return to the Russia forward if other avenues are blocked.

Middlesbrough 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1: Berbatov cocktail gives Spurs a bad head

By Simon Rushworth
Monday, 18 August 2008

According to juanderamos.com, the personal website hosted by Tottenham Hotspur's intriguing Spanish manager, "Distance does not exist, language is no barrier". Well try telling that to the Bulgarian international forward, Dimitar Berbatov.

Still a Tottenham player, his mind is hundreds of miles away from the London club and a complete breakdown in communication is clear. On Saturday, barely a word was exchanged between player and manager as Berbatov was ushered on to the Riverside Stadium pitch by Ramos in a late attempt to steal the points for Spurs.

Later, his mission having failed, the Manchester United target spent little time dissecting defeat with his team-mates in the visitors' dressing room. Head bowed, baseball cap pulled over his eyes, the isolated Berbatov made a move for the team bus long before his colleagues. It would be no surprise if an urgent call to his agent followed.

Ramos must wish for a suitable resolution to a growing crisis but, according to the former Tottenham forward Mido, there can be no successful conclusion.

"You can see Tottenham without Berbatov are a different team," said the Egypt international after his goal four minutes from time secured all three points for Middlesbrough. "But I don't think his head is there anymore – it's not with Spurs and I think he is looking for a move."

Mido was the most obvious casualty of a Berbatov-Robbie Keane partnership which set the Lane alight. Far from being bitter, however, he genuinely fears for his old club should United prove successful in their attempt to snare a player who scored 27 goals last season.

"If he leaves then Tottenham will sign big strikers and big names because that is what they need to satisfy the supporters," he added. "But how do you replace Berbatov? It's very difficult. He is a class player, plays his own game every game and he is not affected by anything around him. It will be especially difficult for Spurs after losing Robbie. 'Keano' is one of the best players I have ever played with. Losing him, I think, will turn out to be even more difficult for Spurs."

Like Berbatov, the slimmed-down Mido appeared off the bench but his was an altogether happier introduction. Within four minutes of replacing the profligate Afonso Alves, the alert substitute had converted Didier Digard's cross-shot to give Middlesbrough a 2-0 lead.

That Robert Huth managed to divert David Bentley's 92nd-minute free-kick into his own goal took some of the gloss off an otherwise impressive Middlesbrough performance and even the Teessider Jonathan Woodgate was minded to praise his former club.

Roundly booed by the home faithful, the England international defender was the outstanding player in a Spurs shirt as new midfield signings Bentley, Giovani dos Santos and Luka Modric laboured under pressure. Woodgate refused to blame the Berbatov saga for a stilted display but said: "It is up to Manchester United to make a bid and Spurs to accept or decline it, or whatever. The ball is in our court really because he is our player. The chairman will decide what to do – if he stays or if he goes."

Arshavin transfer saga finally close to conclusion

By Soccernet

Updated: August 18, 2008, 4:21 PM UK

The saga that is Andrei Arshavin's potential move to Tottenham Hotspur appears to be nearing an end, with a decision over the player's future expected soon.

Zenit officials have reportedly issued Tottenham with a deadline to conclude a make-or-break deal for the Russian one way or the other after the club crashed to a shock 3-1 home defeat to bottom side Shinnik on Sunday.

Spurs have agreed personal terms with the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker but the deal stalled over the agreement of a transfer fee.

Arshavin's agent Dennis Lachter believes the deal could still go through and told Sky Sports News: 'Zenit asked for €25million (£19.7million) for the transfer of Arshavin, this is the last price of the team.'

'Four days ago in a private meeting with one of the Tottenham representatives, it was take it or leave it, that is the last price.

'I have got to talk with president of Zenit, Alexander Dukov, if he wants to buy somebody he needs to sell somebody, so he is pushing for Zenit himself to sell Andrei as he understands the contribution of the player.

'We still have a lot of time and from my experience a lot of deals are finalised close to the end of the window, so we will see.'

Officials at Tottenham are apparently not convinced that a deal can be done quickly, but it is thought that Arshavin has been lined up as a potential replacement for Robbie Keane and, with Dimitar Berbatov also looking poised to join Manchester United, Spurs are certainly in need of attacking reinforcements.

Coach Juande Ramos has distanced himself from directly courting the player, but claims that a deal could still go through: 'We are aware there are only two weeks to go before the end of the window - that is something we are working on constantly anyway.

'We are working calmly, in the background, on one or two things. We prefer to work with as much discretion as we can.'

The player himself admitted this weekend that he expected an imminent resolution one way or another, telling his official website: 'My story continues. For those who are interested, I think we will have a final decision in the coming days.

'What will it be? That is difficult to answer.'

So they are going to sign him and then we'll get Berb. Or they won't sign him and we won't get the berb. Either way we may or may not get the berb.
That's much clearer then.

Transfer deadline is september 1st this year.So plenty of time not to buy him.
