Berbatov

Its a lot of clutching at straws, having seen the interview and read his bizarre take on it. Dont let video evidence get in your way though.

I have also seen the interview.

Berbatov 9 said he thought he had "an expression on his face like what makes you think we're going to sign him". Just his opinion.

Dont let that get in the way of having a go at him though. Idiot.

I'm just not as convinced that Berbatov is so different to Tevez and Rooney the way some people are. If we're going to pay up to 30m on a player I'd like to see something really different added to the strikeforce like real pace. Just to get all transfer muppet and extrapolate from one game today I guess you could suggest Agbonlahor.

If we're just looking for cover for Rooney and Tevez then I'd prefer to pay a lot less and get a "good" rather than "great" player, or a top player that maybe is a bit past his peak, the way Larsson was.

Hell, I've never really liked Santa Cruz, he's certainly never going to be in the same class bracket as Rooney and Tevez, but he'd certainly do the job for us. Even Benni McCarthy sounds pretty good right now! :)

I'd agree with everything but the last sentence :smirk:

And my opinion was he's obviously clutching at straws. Way to make a point by resorting to insults, I'm sure everyone on the playground was mightily impressed at your lack of argument.

Well, I'm sure there are better names out there than Santa Cruz. But you catch my drift.

Of course. In fact McCarthy is even the type of player I think would be ideal. Its just that last year was a really lousy showing from him, which makes me wonder how much more useful he'd be than Campbell. As you say, there are better players out there and perhaps that was just a blip and he'll come back to his best this season. Regardless its a thought in the right direction I feel.

Ekeke nobody is impressed so stop. Your trying to pick on an individual poster for no reason, taking the piss out of his username despite his comments not being a promotion of the likelihood of him signing. So stop with the playground nonsense and sarcastic comments.

As I said with all the stuff you have spouted on here and the reactions of posters to stuff you say. Its not necessary.

There is no lack of argument. Im sure you can take someone calling you an "idiot".

I think he means Benni McCarthy.

Maybe he was a bad option, but McCarthy has scored a decent number of goals in the PL. Frazier Campbell could learn to be a player who can do that, but I'm not sure we can keep playing him until that happens. If he's going to learn his game then it should be at Hull. We could use some top-level goal scoring experiece now. We're so spoilt with world class players that we think every signing has to be in that bracket. It doesn't have to be.

I actually don't think Fraizer Campbell will become first choice if he goes to Hull.

And I just think McCarthy was a one season wonder.

Hypocrite. You've done exactly the same although you've obviously taken one of my posts the wrong way.

Just like he stated his very clutch-at-straws opinion on SAF's interview (in fact almost every post he's made has been clutching at straws, but regardless) I posted my opinion on it and you then made a post telling me to stop because its his opinion. You do see where I'm going with this? We're all allowed opinions. I never said he couldnt share his - you're the only one doing that.

As for the comment about his username, I think its funny. His username is a very good reason why he's so eager to straw at every clutch. Berbatov has to sign, for his sake.

Funny thing is, the backlash on here towards Ronaldo has been quite unbelievable. At least when he's been refused his moves he's been professional and come back and played his football at 100%, even more than that 110% improving all the time.

Berbatov has done the opposite according to you, trying to weasel out on his club and contract. What happens when a more fashionable club comes in for him in a year? He's already shown with his one year at Spurs then wanting to leave that he'll make a big effort to leave regardless of how soon he'd just got there. And if he's in a mood, purposely playing at less than 100% then he's very unprofessional and not above doing the same thing to us.

Ronaldo hasn't kicked a ball for us yet since he has come back, so you're a bit premature what that first paragraph.

Secondly, Ronaldo hadn't the balls to tell the club he wanted to leave. He waited until he was away from the club to start his campaign (with Madrid), through the media.

Berbatov told Spurs he wanted to leave, he hasn't opened his mouth about wanting to leave to any newspaper up to now and has continued to play when called up. When he came on yesterday for Spurs, he made all the difference, and contrary to what Macari might say, he showed passion to look for a result.

If Ronaldo had told Man Utd straight out, "I want to leave", most people wouldn't have had a problem with it, but he is total opposite of Berbatov, in that he is a complete 2-faced snake.

Berbatov has been at Spurs 2 years by the way.

Ronaldo is a United player. Berbatov is a Spurs player. So we could do without Berbatov fanboys telling us about how this Spurs player is so much more profesional than our United player.

Ronaldo hasn't kicked a ball for us yet since he has come back, so you're a bit premature what that first paragraph.

You're forgetting that this isnt the first time Ronaldo has wanted out, like Berbatov wants out. He came back from the winking incident and gave his all.

Secondly, Ronaldo hadn't the balls to tell the club he wanted to leave. He waited until he was away from the club to start his campaign (with Madrid), through the media.

He said he wanted to leave almost from the moment he got here, he let us know that his dream is to play in Spain for Real. He reiterated it after Rooney got himself sent off.

Which is the point. Most people, including your post that I replied to, say that he isnt giving his all because he wants to move to us. I dont believe that. Having watched him a lot last season I dont think he was being moody and unperforming more than anyone else either. In fact he had a good season and was one of Spurs best players all throughout.

Berbatov has been at Spurs 2 years by the way.

Berbatov first wanted to leave Spurs before last season, which is why Jol said after his leaving - "The only problem with Berbatov is he has his heart set on United"

And Ronaldo was pretty straight about it a few years ago if we're honest. Both Berbatov's wanting to leave and Ronaldo saying he wants to leave were more than a year ago. Why dont you remember?

Slightly hypocritical yes however, I initially pointed it out in a normal way as he did nothing wrong in the post you quoted. I only called you an idiot (not exactly strong words) after your sarcastic comments about the video evidence. I see where your trying to go with this but what you quoted was not pro-Berbatov signing mostly the opposite by the interpretation of Fergie and Macari.

I agree on the username. However, to use your words I doubt the playground is impressed with the jumping on everything he says of which your not the only one at fault I might add. Especially when he seems better than most posters on here.

Which I'm sure you only say because he emphatically supports your pro-Berbatov's signing campaign.

Most posts he's made have been extremely over-optimistic with regard to everything related to Berbatov's possible transfer. And the opposite in threads about other players like Santa Cruz. Extremely under-optimistic and blinkered. He clearly wants Berbatov to come and will take absolutely anything as a sign that he's clearly coming and other players clearly couldnt be. The username just wraps things up in a package made of chuckles. Not that he's the only one whos posts are like this, but he's easily the most extravagant about it.

I do wonder why he cant remember a season before last season though. JCL? It's all opinions (and agendas for people like the above) in the end, as you say. But thats my opinion on someone else's opinion and someone else's agenda, regarding defending said opinion. So there you go.

After the world cup in 2006, he was afraid to come back to Manchester after what happened and that is why he wanted to leave. The manager reassured him all would be fine.

He always stated his desire to play in spain 'One Day', but is 'Happy' at Manchester United.

At the end of last season he said he wanted to stay, but as soon as he got away, he started his get-out campaign, which makes him a liar. Now that he's back, he'll suck up to everyone once more. Sadly the prawn sandwich brigade fall for it.

Yes, Berbatov did want to leave at the end of last season, but you said he was only at Spurs for one year (that's how I viewed it), and that was my point there.

As I have already said, Berbatov has never come out and said he wanted to leave for United, whereas Ronaldo has used the media continuously to force a move to Madrid, but when he is at United, he's oh so happy again.

Berbatov stays quiet and states his intention with the club. I know who I have more respect for.

Which I'm sure you only say because he emphatically supports your pro-Berbatov's signing campaign.

You see now Ekeke thats where you ruin it just when I thought we were getting somewhere.

Pro Berbatov signing campaign? I like Berbatov as a player and have expressed it, thats all. I have never said he would definitely sign. In fact the way I remember it most of the pointless talk I had with you was based on the fact that you thought Ferguson had no interest in him anymore initially.

Slightly hypocritical when you turn every thread into a David Villa bore contest I think pal.

The other post I made on Ferguson interview wasn't blinkered at all.

I said he had an expression on his face like 'what makes you think he's the one'.

If I was blinkered I would have said the total opposite.

You can disagree with my opinion on here, but if you have something against me personally, then you should keep it to yourself and show some class.

Thank you.

Ah but I'm doing the opposite. I strongly believe that Villa is staying at Valencia, or at most might end up with Real Madrid if they can sort the finances. Just because I think he'd be an excellent partner for Rooney, and that Rooney's ideal partner is in a very similar mould doesnt mean I want us to sign Villa, when I think its pretty clear he's staying at Valencia. We dont have to sign my favourite player/s. Veron was one of them and I was distraught when I heard we were making a big money move for him. It wasnt right. Believe it or not, I've always been a bit of a fan of Berbatov. But not as much as last season where I watched him a heck of a lot and became a bigger fan of the player. But again, that doesnt mean I'd like us to sign him when I think he's far from the ideal player to play next to Rooney.

That is the opposite of course to wanting us to sign a certain 1 player and backing up absolutely anyone who agrees, regardless of how over the top their point was.

As for believing that we hadnt bid for Berbatov before since he moved to the premiership, welll I guess thats down to Levy. If somehow he actually does have some tapping up evidence, I was wrong about that. Regardless, we're clearly trying to sign him (or have been) this summer. And if we do end up signing him, at least it isnt Huntelaar. Though I think we'll be paying a ridiculous fee for a player we can probably get for half the money next summer.

The blinkered comment was after talking about your post in the Santa Cruz thread.

Then why respond to me in this thread and not the Santa Cruz one?

In the SC thread, I just gave my opinion on what I saw and a 'possible' explanation for him being there.

As I said in the other thread though, he doesn't need to attend such a game to run the rule over players he'll already know inside out.

Do I think Santa Cruz will join us? No.

Do I think Berbatov will? Yes.

That's just my opinion, and I'd obviously prefer the latter.

Obviously. And you've toned it down a long shot here so I have not even a slight amount of a problem with that.

The only reason I posted anything about it here was because of Keys' post about multiple people 'picking on' you. I was explaining why I thought that might be. ie. your post like that one in the santa cruz thread. I'm sure nobody could have a problem with how you've said it above.

FFS lads all this inhouse arguing makes us sound like the fecking scousers!

We ALL support Manchester United and we ALL want what is best for the team.

We each have opinions on what is best for our club, but that doesn't make it right or wrong.

At the end of the day SAF is the decision maker and in him i trust.

If we give up on Berbatov and sign someone else (Won't surprise me at all after all the Spurs fannying about!) then i will trust Fergie's judgement!

- Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov, who has been linked with European champions Manchester United, reaffirmed on Sunday his desire to leave the Premier League club.
"I'm a Tottenham player at the moment but I don't think that someone has the right to be angry at me for pursuing my dreams and for my big ambitions," the Bulgarian international told reporters at Sofia

http://football.guardian.co.uk/breakingnews/feedstory/0,,-7732237,00.html

If he wants the move he should have handed in a transfer request.

The difference is you said I had a "pro Berbatov signing" campaign, when all I have done is talk about aspects of his game etc.

On a much smaller scale than you have with Villa and also within threads regarding him I may add. :D

I dont know where your getting this I want us to sign one player stuff from I discuss many players on here. I have already explained why I "backed him up" fully. If you misread what he was saying in what you quoted fair enough, just say.

Im not bringing up what we were mostly talking about to prove you wrong or anything by the way. The only problem I and others had is that you ignored direct things which would indicate the interest would still remain (not only in the form of rumoured bids) as well as not taking into account how stubborn Fergie is when chasing certain players. I could easily have been wrong.

My post in the SC thread was just an opinion and pretty self explanatory I thought. I cant see how anyone would have a problem with it and what needed to be toned down?

Perhaps some people had their hopes up on a possible move for SC because Ferguson was at the game, but me throwing a little bit of caution and common sense into the equation made them think different, refusing to accept it, hence voicing a response of anger because it was a dampener on how they viewed the situation. Nobody responded as such in the thread though, which I'd expect anyway.

If I think people are picking on me, I'll just ignore them - period.

Fair enough. Having read the comment again, I think this time I was the one going over the top :p So I apologise. I think I read it right after some of the Berbatov posts where we've already come to the conclusion you'll take anything as a sign that he's coming, and because of that - remembered your post and something of a complete dismissal of someone other than Berbatov coming. As I say, I apologise because I'm in the wrong there and having read it back it was nothing like that. Though I wouldnt call it adding common sense either, we'll agree to disagree there I'm sure :p

Thanks, no problem.

I think Berbatov will come, provided Spurs get a replacement in. That is what I have been told.

However, Spurs seem to be struggling to get that replacement in, and the following news, if true, doesn't help matters -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/7537039.stm

It's going to be a very interesting (and stressful) 2 weeks I'm sure.

What about the news of Pavlyuchenko coming in as a replacement for Berb at Spurs?

From The Telegraph -

“No one can disagree with me wanting to follow my dream,” remarked the Bulgarian yesterday.

Berbatov’s agent, Emil Dantchev, believes there will be movement soon. “I think this will be the most important week,’’ said Dantchev. “I read Alex Ferguson’s statement that he wants another striker and I hope that this striker is Dimitar Berbatov.’’

we only have 1 more game before the deadline (other than super cup) as long as hes in before end of the window it matters little when we get him

One thing is for certain on todays performance we need someone because we are too light up front

Didn't Berbatov come out and say after he'd just signed for them, that he'd chosen Spurs over us?

Didn't Berbatov come out and say after he'd just signed for them, that he'd chosen Spurs over us?

Because United were waiting to see what happened with Van Nistelrooy and he didn´t want to wait. Like someone said, it was similar to the Senna situation.

Didn't Berbatov come out and say after he'd just signed for them, that he'd chosen Spurs over us?

Yep he did, but said the reason for that was United asked him would he wait awhile longer, as they had to settle Ruud's future first. He wasn't prepared to wait over a move that may not materialise, so chose to join Spurs.

bbest posted the full interviews from Berbatov and his agent earlier, which was translated -

Berbatov:-

The captain of the bulgarian national team and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has arrived at Sofia. He will take part in the friendly mach against Bosnia in Wednesday. "I don't think people should be mad at me just because I'm following my dreams and ambitions. At the moment I'm still a TH player. Yesterday, I was a substitution at the game with Boro, because the coach decided so. But at the moment I'm thinking only about the national team. We have to show we're ready for the qualifiers. I'm not complaining. And you'll never hear me do. Even if it's a hard time for me, I've been through worse. It's part of the job. As for the relationship with my team mates, that's the least of my problems. We've had a great relationship with Keane, but everything has it's end." said the bulagrian star. "I've noticed something. Eric Cantona never smiled on the photos but I don't know if anyone asked him why." ended Berbo on a mystical note.

His Agent:-

DANCHEV: SLEDVASHTATA WEEK WILL IS FROM GOLYAMO IMPORTANT TO THE FUTURE OF BERBO

Manager Dimitar Berbatov Emil Danchev said at Sofia Airport, expected that next week will be crucial to the future Master of the Bulgarian national otbor.Agent at not wished to give more details about the development of the proposed transfer of star of Tottenham at Manchester United, but hopes as to himself, and Berbo are associated with such stechenie precisely the circumstances. 'Until transferniya end of the period has two more weeks, so let's have a little patience. I personally think that to a large extent, the next week, which begins tomorrow, will have great importance for the future of Mitko, so some have to wait, 'said Danchev.

'It appears that your British colleagues are less netarpelivi you. And so we thank you're patient. We chetyahme everything which izlizashe in England. In the day on which the media do pratiha samples, it was their training at Tottenham. Yesterday there were also some publications. These are normal things. It seems they are more netarpelivi you, but I can not tell you anything specific now. These are the rules of the game. But a few days, we will be able to Mitko to tell you many interesting things. To hope that everything will be completed as requested Mitko ' said football manager.

'I can not comment Finance. Let's not forget that so far in Europe has not yet made the big transfer. More than that is not I can comment. '' I accept it as normal and natural because such a transfer has its peculiarities. Normal to there is little nervousness. This is the reason to stay a little longer in England, because when the man himself is experiencing things more difficult. Chetoh Speaking of Ferguson that he wants another attacker and our hopes are that it is Dimitar Berbatov, finished his speech before the Bulgarian Emil Danchev journalists.

Boy this thread's got serious.
Guess today sobered everyone up. I fear the next few games will sober everyone even further but I'd like to see the Possebon's and Campbells get some more time in there.
I'm not overly concerned about getting the berb and in a way I actually would prefer we don't get him now and give our young kids a chance, even if it means not being Champions this year (horrors!). They have great potential but it won't come out unless they get some serious playing time.

I don't know how many points we have to drop against shit teams before we actually get a striker in instead of just talking about it. We've had all summer for feck's sake, it's not as if Berbatov was busy at the Euros.
