Berbatov

no it doesnt it just mean if a cross does come in or we are under attack and the ball is cleared we will have more chance of winning the ball, we dont have to change our system because someone is tall.

Thats the point. Tevez had a good rate of conversion. I can remember at least one he should have scored that he missed - but Berbatov will miss a few too.

If we have a taller striker it doesn't mean we have to play more crosses, we don't change anything, we will however take better advantage of the ones that already come in

To make use of 'more height', in terms of Berbatov and Manucho means more crosses, which means less playing like last season.

I was fairly happy with our system and its rate of success to be honest.

It's important to have a striker who will score goals with his head at a steady rate. Especially when you have a Striker next to him who has scored something silly like 3 headed goals in his career, like Wayne Rooney. However, Tevez did that.

You know that's not true Ekeke. If Berbatov came we wouldn't suddenly start crossing the ball constantly, we would just have someone to aim at. Nani puts in plenty of good crosses in most matches he plays and I would be quite sure that Berbatov would benefit from good service from him.

It's not about scoring headed goals either, it's about having that extra option.

I just watched the managers club interview on MUTV, and I must say he looked alot happier than he did in the open press conference.

When asked was there any update on transfers he said..."No, we're working on something, you know, ahh, hoping that something happens, trying hard as a matter, how long it takes I suppose, we have up to the deadline. We are trying something new, so hopefully we can get some progress on that".

He was being very careful with his words.

I'm sorry Berbatov but I still do not understand what this means. If the something new is not a different player than Berbatov then what could he have meant. An increased offer? A part exchange? Why say 'something new' when everyone knows that a bid has already been rejected.

Its the same option as Manucho would give us. You lot are right though, we don't need to put more crosses in. But I do feel we would start to, not that it wouldnt be more productive.

I would guess it means different financial package for Spurs. Maybe less bonus orientated or something similar.

Then you add in Berbatov's ability to link-up play brilliantly along with his aerial presence and you have a completely different option to what Manucho brings.

I wonder SAF's words are designed to put pressure on Levy, as well Berbatovs' team to make his transfer request public.

Or have United walked away?

Yes,could be. I would feel happier if he had said 'something different' though instead of 'something new'. I have this nagging fear that he did mean someone else and I cant think of anyone else as good as Berbatov who is available.

Manucho is not even remotely close to being as good as Berbatov.

Btw, SSN have said several times tonight that Berbatov's agent is in the country and they have shown footage of the two of them getting into a car.

SAF doesn't seem to change his mind on a player very easily. Berbatov will be our player unless Spurs refuse to sell. I don't think that will happen, so it's just a matter of time before they reach agreement. My bet is it will be 26-ish rising to 28.2-ish.

Fergie has tunnel vision regarding transfers. Once he identifies a player, he never changes his mind. I doubt he's walked away from the Berbs transfer. Just not his style.

Good point

Manucho could be a real gem, or he may not. we'll not find out unless we actually get him.

Stating the obvious there.

Yes SAF does have a habit of getting his way. I think it will go to £28mill too.

On BBC Gossip!!!

Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov is currently in Manchester to undergo a medical before joining Manchester United in deal worth £28 million. (Daily Mail 1525 BST)

Yes, repost and not true. He was training with the Spurs at the time.

There is only so far you can go trying to negotiate with those not willing to do business Spoons. Time is running out, and if this is not working out we need to focus elsewhere. I hope it's a tactic by SAF to rush the transfer.

A newbie claimed that United's team walked out from negotiations yesterday - he was even willing to give the name of his source by PM.

I have heard rumours that the main stumbling blocks are Spurs insistence United pay the whole fee up-front, and Berbatov hand in a transfer request.

There's only a couple of players I see who would be on a par, or a better fit than Berbatov. I sincerely hope we do not panic buy some average player.

Which wasnt the point.

Berbatov gives the same aerial dimension that Manucho would. Which is what was being talked about.

And Danny Webber would give us the same dimension that Wayne Rooney or Carlos Tevez, which doesn't suddenly mean that neither of them is needed at the club and both can be sold if we can only manage to bring Webber back.

Fergie will get his man, that Im sure of.

He was talking about his squad first, then asked about transfers.....

What he meant by "trying something new", is trying to add a 'new' player to current bunch they have.

Berbatovs name was never mentioned by Stewart Gardner (MUTV Pundit).

Berbatov is definitely the player we're in for, there is no question about that.

I agree and if you look around the leagues, there are no players even rumore to be available that would be of Berba's stature or skill-leve. Unless SAF has an ace up his sleeve, which wouldn't surprise me one bit. But still, who else could we get so that it wouldn't look like a panic signing? Mourinho is never going to let Ibrahimovic come to Old Trafford as long as he has something to say about it etc.

What part of the country were they getting into a car?

What times roughly was it shown on SSN?

Besides, Manucho hasn't got his work permit which seems odd for a player who is by some regarded as our third choice striker. He will probably be shipped out on loan soon.

I know I dont understand why he hasnt gotten a work permit yet

Interesting. I still believe this will get done. With two weeks to go in the window, I'm sure SAF will have said to Berbatov what he said to Keano as he left Forest and there was a bidding war with Blackburn-just sit tight and you'll get to the club. If a transfer request is a sticking point, I would bet my house he will make one.

Negotiations at that level seem to be a strange business, with a lot of posturing followed by the classic horse trading. I would have hoped we would have reached the latter stage by now, but given the relations between the clubs, it may have been overly optimistic.

I still refer to Levy's original "tapping-up" statement. He made it clear that Berbatov wants to join us, and that they wanted players who are committed. Pragmatism will out, but maybe not quickly enough to sate the Caftards' inner transfer muppets. If we get him before next weekend, we will have him available just when we need him.

I've said it before, and I will no doubt say it again. This guy is the real deal. I have a feeling he will prove to be a special player for us-the stage just seems made for him.
