Berbatov

Poyet wants his future decided and so do we. The deadlock needs to be broken sooner rather than later.

Deal is done mate as far as I'm concerned.

Just a matter of Spurs signing their replacement, which is understandable I suppose, although we'd all like Berby on Board right now.

I still let myself get dragged into all the speculation though lol.

By the way, I think if Robinho goes to Chelsea, David Villa will go to Madrid.

He hasn't signed a new deal at Valencia yet, and he was the one who was expected to do so and not David Silva.

At what part of last season did Tevez' height cost us?

we need some difference between our strikers in build as much as style, berbatov isn't just about rotating the 3 of them but giving us a different option from the bench to change the game

Especially at the start of the season when goals were hard to come by, the lack of a lead the line striker was evident. Ronaldo's amazing form masked the problem.

Purchasing David Villa, won't really add a whole new dimension to our squad, whereas Berbatov will clearly give us something different and effectively more variety.

Didn't we already sign Tevez this summer

No, that was more bullshit in the papers.

The reality of the Tevez situation is, we agreed an outright fee for him when the loan deal was put in place.

We have the option to sign him for a set fee during the loan period.

The papers hung themselves saying we'd agreed a fee a few weeks ago.

Idiots never did their homework obviously.

Wouldn't surprise me if the £32 million was planted in the papers just to inflate Berbatovs price.

If, as expected, Dimitar Berbatov becomes a United player over the next few days, he will gain an official seal of approval from Owen Hargreaves, who played for Bayern Munich in the striker’s Bayer Leverkusen days.

“Berbatov is a fabulous player, who would be a fine addition to any team,” said the England midfielder.

“The thing is, if Manchester United sign a player, it has to be a top player and that would be exciting for us all.

“Obviously, you can never have too many strikers, although I don’t actually think we need to improve on too much from last season.”

MEN

Nothing really new. Just a section from Owen Hargreaves in our match preview.

"It is a great week with three fabulous games.."

"They're fabulous and I'm very happy that they are still very much there.."

"He's been fabulous.."

“The World Cup was a fabulous experience.."

"But that's life, you're not always going to feel fabulous.."

:smirk:

If he wasn't balling Georgie Thompson, there might be serious questions to be asked about our Owen.

friend of mine who works for spurs media said berbatov was 100% training with spurs today amidst all the rumours of him being at carrington having a medical.

I hope it gets sorted now, he will be perfect player for us and will make us even better, and finally after a long long time we will have an aerial threat up front.

Thats due to Tevez' inability to play the role. His positioning, his ability to break the offside trap and run in behind. That has little to do with his height.

He actually scored a bunch of goals with his head last season, which is nice because Rooney hardly scores any with his head.

But the only way someone is going to score more often with their head is if we start playing a more direct style. Get the ball on the wings and load the box with crosses like we used to. Would mean we play a lot less than we did last season though, where we werent doing that.

As for the "extra dimensions" argument, Villa is faster and can lead the line like Tevez could not and is a far better finisher than Rooney or Tevez, or even Berbatov. We wont be signing him but to say that he wont add a new dimension is to not know the player in question. Both Berbatov and Villa (and players similar in style; Eto'o, Henry) would add something a little bit different.

Ya, it's bullshit. She lives in London with her longterm boyfriend.

Ah, poor Owen. He had it all, and had it snatched away. Loads of stories on google linking them together, wouldn't say her bloke is best pleased.

livid to be honest mate.

 You're a funny fecker, you know that. If you weren't such an e-bender, I could almost tolerate you.:D

it is all part of the same package i am afraid. you cannot have one with out the other.

Sunday, August 19 at precisely 1:46pm and 33 seconds. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Do you really expect me to give you a serious answer Ekeke? You've remained adamant that height doesn't matter all summer, when really there were quite a few times when it was clear we could have done with some height. So there's no need for me to even bother trying to convince you.

To make use of 'more height', in terms of Berbatov and Manucho means more crosses, which means less playing like last season.

I was fairly happy with our system and its rate of success to be honest.

It's important to have a striker who will score goals with his head at a steady rate. Especially when you have a Striker next to him who has scored something silly like 3 headed goals in his career, like Wayne Rooney. However, Tevez did that.

no it doesnt it just mean if a cross does come in or we are under attack and the ball is cleared we will have more chance of winning the ball, we dont have to change our system because someone is tall.
