FOR those who caught Tottenham Hotspur's five-star performance against Roma on Sunday, you would also have witnessed Dimitar Berbatov's last act at White Hart Lane.
As the sulky striker trudged around the pitch with all the speed and urgency of a man who has just left an all-you-can-eat steakhouse with half of the stockroom in his belly, I think we can safely assume that he won't be with the club for very much longer.
Likewise, the rumour that Manchester United have postponed their team photoshoot for a few days seems to suggest that they're waiting for someone new to arrive.

You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce what's going on here.
But despite the rather sad and petulant way that Berbatov's time at north London has come to an end, there is little doubt that he is the final piece in the puzzle for Sir Alex Ferguson.
United have arguably the tightest defence in Europe,
are overwhelmed with talent in the middle and have all the tenacious support strikers that a team could ask for.
All they need, and it seems that they may have it now, is a good old-fashioned target-man to put the ball in the net.
United's Community Shield victory could and should have been a lot more convincing, but with no out-and-out striker to finish off those flowing moves, Portsmouth were able to hold out until the coup d'grace of a penalty shoot-out.
Carlos Tevez ran himself into the ground, but sometimes he is so keen to get the ball that he drops deep or drifts wide, leaving Darren Fletcher to fill the gap up front and we all know how embarrassing that can be.
Ferguson will have no problem convincing Berbatov to hold his position, in fact Tottenham fans will tell you that it's getting him to move that's usually the problem.

HUNCHED SHOULDERS
The Bulgarian has a frustrating tendency to play with hunched shoulders, sinking out of sight if he doesn't receive the ball often enough, but that will no longer be an issue at Old Trafford.
He'll be motivated, confident and content to be at a club that he feels matches his ambitions.
As commanding in the air as he is with the ball at his feet, he's graceful, elegant and deadly.
Like many Eastern European footballers, however, he is known to be partial to the occasional cigarette, but at least this means he'll get on well with Wayne Rooney.
I wasn't entirely sure where to put my money for the title race for this season, but now I've got no doubt at all.
Manchester United are an awesome football team, one of the most entertaining in Europe, but despite their Champions League and Premier League double, they weren't quite complete.
They are now.

the whole thing seems to be going cold. :( can't see him being in for sunday at this rate since he has to be registered by 5pm today at the latest to be eligible.

I´ve lost all hope he´ll be ours before Sunday, still haven´t lost all hope he could be ours by August 31st.

Maybe a debut against Portsmouth, like Tevez?

Barcelona set to trump Man Utd for Tottenham's Berbatov
tribalfooball.com - August 15, 2008

Barcelona are set to trump Manchester United for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov.

The Sun says the Spanish giants have told Spurs they are ready to make a move for the wantaway striker.

United remain favourites to land the Bulgarian - but only if they meet Spurs' £30million asking price.

So far, United have not budged from £25m and, if they do not up their bid, Spurs will listen to Barca.

And they would be far more willing to reach a compromise deal with them, than negotiate with United.

A White Hart Lane insider confirmed: "Barcelona are watching the situation very closely and we know they would love to sign Dimi."

Barcelona are not interested in Berbatov because Eto'o is staying at the club, hence they don't need another striker.

There are RUMOURS around Tottenham want the whole fee up front, and for Berbatov to hand in a transfer request.

it is all take, take, take with those bastards. i don't remember carrick being this difficult to sign.

That seems ridiculous. From what I understand, fees are very, very rarely up front anymore. Usually they are paid over the length of the original contract, with the add-ons on top.

Also, do we think Berbatov will request a transfer? He would probably lose a seven figure sum by doing that, but surely he can see the bigger picture. If he really wants a move, and that is the only way to do it, then hopefully he will look to leave. After all his basic salary will surely be higher with us, and at least with us he has the chance of substantial bonuses for winning titles.

They have every right to do it.

He is their player.

of course they do but that is not the point. the point is it is looking increasing likely i will suffer from a lack of transfer exposure this summer and if this continues who knows what i might do when put under that kind of duress.

There are plenty of players to have waived their loyalty bonus or signing on fees.

I remember Stam did that when he signed for United.

I hope we never do business again with spurs after this

Naa. They may make us sweat and pay a lot of money, but at the end of the day we get their best players and become even better while they have to look for replacement (have they replaced Carrick yet?). :boring:

This quote has turned up in a few papers this morning. And the source?

A fecking janitor at White Hart Lane

I know that both clubs are guilty of using the media for their own ends in this saga but that's a pretty poor effort from Spuds. Must try harder.

Chin up guys. The deal is not dead, Spurs want to sell, and United want to buy - perfect scenario for a resolution.

Just a quick refresher.

We've got the double winning squad intact.

Neville, Hargreaves and Saha will hopefully have better luck with injuries than the previous season.

Last seasons arrivals will be better for the experience.

Silva twins, and Possebon looking very good for a place in the first team squad.

We have the mighty O'shea.
