Thank you.€30 to 35m reported fee.

23 games isn’t relying on him, is the point. He’s been there long enough. He would be starting 50+ games at centre half if he was relied upon at centre half. The word you are looking for is an ‘option’, which is all he’s ever been there.
No, he isn't slow, he isn't fast either.
If true we should be all over this. Our options at the back would be pretty strong€30 to 35m reported fee.
Varane is rapid when he wants to be, but he is more cautious about when he sprints these days. I remember him making a statue out of Son last season. When he wants to get going, there are few faster. Wasn't it Kroos who said as long as they played together at RM, nobody at RM beat him for pace - that includes prime Ronaldo, Bale, Vinicius (?). He might have lost some, but not that much.
Martinez getting rinsed by Bailey, sure. Bailey is one of the fastest in the league. Shaw was rinsed by Jesus Navas, Lennon (old Lennon in fact), Adama etc - he's still pretty fast over distance. Martinez is still a fast centre back, and very quick over short distances.
He is a better CB, he has been used as a RB because he can do it at high level. France didn't have a better alternative and his ability to play RB fixed an issue for Bayern that they haven't had to fix since.
That must be the most Michael Owen thing i ever heard
Agree with this. When he wants to, he's rapid, but he's a brilliant reader of the game. He's matured and not that different from Rio. How often did we actually see Rio going at full throttle? Varane does it slightly more often, but not often at all. Maguire has to run around a lot more than Varane - a damning sight, for sure!Varane doesn't rely on athleticism and never had. He can outrun most players and he can also outmuscle most of them but his game has almost exclusively been based on reading and anticipating actions.
He’s played 109 games at CB.23 games isn’t relying on him, is the point. He’s been there long enough. He would be starting 50+ games at centre half if he was relied upon at centre half. The word you are looking for is an ‘option’, which is all he’s ever been there.
But it’s true and it’s not a Michael Owen comment.
He is not a fast RB but he’s also not slow. His speed is not a strength nor is it a notable weakness that is regularly exploited so it’s a concise way of expressing this.
Come one, there's a big difference between being quick and fast. You can be relatively fast but not quick, and the other way around. Martinez is more quick than fast, and Varane is definitely fast but not all that quick. Quick and nimble.
Sorry haha text is hard to interpret sarcasm and on the football forums there are plenty of awful takes!I said it with tongue in cheek.
You might be confusing him with Meunier.

He’s a starting RB and instant cover at CB.Is he long term starter for CB for us, or just a cheap CB/RB cover?
isn’t one of the reasons he’s leaving because he doesn’t want to play RB?He’s a starting RB and instant cover at CB.
The problem is that he thinks he can do this every game and for every screamer there are ~20 balls straight into the stands. He's scored a lot of stunning goals for a RB though.
These editors really work ultra fast nowadays. More c(h)on(g)tent for the likes of me
I bet he’d pick that over being a benchwarmer.isn’t one of the reasons he’s leaving because he doesn’t want to play RB?
I'm starting to think French players are a bit high maintenance in general. Seems examples of that are aplenty. The problem is that he thinks he can do this every game and for every screamer there are ~20 balls straight into the stands.
My 2 cents regarding Pavard:
- As a CB he isn't better than your existing options
- As a RB he is a defensively good option, but not good enough going forward for most top teams (it was okay in the last years for us to balance Davies)
- He commits a lot of silly fouls
- As a character he seems a bit difficult, he used to tell the media every other week that he wants to play as CB when he war a starter for us as RB. There were also some rumors about alcohol problems
I'm not too worried if he leaves although Mazraoui is better not getting injured if we sell Pavard without a replacement.
What kind of fullback is he ?
In my mind I have him down as Gary Neville -esq.
@croadyman good call; you’ve been going on and on about Pavard, seems the manager is in agreement.
If true we should be all over this. Our options at the back would be pretty strong
CB : Varane, Martinez, Lindelof, Pavard, Shaw
RB : Pavard, AWB, Dalot
LB : Shaw, Malacia, Dalot
CDM : Casemiro, Amrabat
He is better at his job than McTominay. How much are you asking for him?If we can get him for €25-30m he’s a no brainer.

I like this a lot. Really like it. That's a title winning defence, in my opinion.
Next season or the one after, we also need to be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Varane. It's not just about this season, but about getting back to that 'conveyor belt of talent' that we seemed to have under Sir Alex.
