Benjamin Pavard

Can’t say I’ve ever been the biggest fan of his a centre half. Been highly rated since Stuttgart, we were linked back then, but he’s barely been considered good enough to be a first choice RB for club or country since he left them.

Might cream myself if we replace Maguire with Pavard tbh.

Would prefer any of the other two options over him, we have two relatively younger RBs who are either good enough now or need to be shipped out and we have an aging Varane who just needs a good younger understudy/replacement.

So you want Tapsoba/Todibo then

Barely? He has been an undisputed starter as RB at the exception of one strange period in 2021, where he was still a starter but he was shaky for no apparent reason and went back to normal since.

I'd prefer Todibo if I'm honest, younger and has high upside potential. Although Pavard can cover RB and I don't particularly like Dalot so he would probably be a smart signing.
Would be great if we could sign both...

Does Ten Hag ever play 3 at the back? Pavard at Man Utd makes me think about a Lisandro-Varane-Pavard defense with Varane as a sweeper and Pavard and Lisandro who are both excellent at carrying the ball forward and passing it.

Hmm. He’d be our best RB instantaneously and he’d slot to CB when Varane is out… it’s a no brainier, isn’t it?

Apologies, clearly I meant at CB.

This is my issue really. I'd have him at RB but CB?

I've only seen him play for France but would much prefer a CB with great recovery pace as that's something I think we're lacking currently.

He played 30 times for Bayern in the league last year.

Does he want to play at rb though. His appeal would be him becoming first choice rb and also covering for Varane when injured or needs rest. @JPRouve

He's an undisputed starter for Bayern. :wenger:

They've also been trying to get him to sign a new contract but he wants a new challenge. He's on the last year of his contract.

Yeah that's probably what we are looking for right now instead of a natural CB. Listen I am not saying that's the right way to go about it

Must admit havn't really took notice of him for years probably as I don't watch much German football but when I saw him at right back for france always thought he was proper class.

He is a better CB, he has been used as a RB because he can do it at high level. France didn't have a better alternative and his ability to play RB fixed an issue for Bayern that they haven't had to fix since.

Varane is bloody fast, so that's just weird. Martinez is also faster, and definitely quicker, than most centre backs. Put Shaw as a center back and there's even more pace. Lindelof is slow, I'll give you that.

According to FIFA though, Pavard is terribly slow...

Again, it was a typo I was specifically referencing at centre half.

He plays RB because he has been very good there and there isn't a lot of RBs that would take his spot, it's not because he isn't rated as a CB. Ask Mazraoui and the bunch of RBs that Bayern brought, none of them even came close to take his spot and they won't until he leaves.

Which of his stats have been amazing?

He has quite a similar profile to Ben White, I'd welcome him here. Prefer Pavard and Todibo over Tapsoba, who is a bit high risk/reward.

News I was hoping for. I think he starts at RB and rotates with Varane. Lindelof has played as the left CB, shaw is good there and dalot can also play LB. Gives us plenty of cover in all positions and improves our starting XI

I don't think Varane is particularly fast anymore? I definitely wouldn't describe Martinez as fast either, he got absolutely rinsed for pace by Leon Bailey last season. Shaw's a left back primarily.

I have no idea about Pavard's pace on Fifa, as I said, I'm judging him from the games I've seen him play for France so I don't know why you're trying to be patronising...

Bit of an odd one, don't really understand the rationale.

Is a 27 year old going to want to be a utility player when they were mostly a starter at Bayern? Because I don't see him replacing a fit and firing Varane. He could play RB, but then what about the 2 other specialist right-backs we already have? Do we need a RB more than another attacker?

Good player, but seems an odd fit.

Completely disagree here and strongly.
