Manchester City is set to sign Benjamin Mendy for approximatively 54M€

Same person that tweeted before the Bernardo transfer.

They can have him for that. Feck me Pogba is looking more and more reasonable as time goes on.

£47m for him is a bit steep. No wonder Everton think they can get £100m for Lukaku.

We don't need a LB. Darmian deserves his chance, Blind is a solid backup, and we can all hope that Shaw can step up and make the position his own next year.

I don't know lads. They've sorted out a major problem in their first 11 and bought one of the premier young talents in European football all for around the same price as we got pogba and miki for. Doesn't look too bad to me. It's not foolish. 40 million pounds is the price of a first team player now. It is true that pogba will look like good value pretty soon. I wouldn't swap him for anyone, just pointing out it doesn't look that crazy to me anymore. City can spend 200 million pounds and up if they like. If pep doesn't meltdown, on paper they are right back in the race again next season.

I wouldn't mind at all if we got Mendy for 54M. At all.

Monaco are amazing at getting great fees for their players! And City are doing great at making quick signings. But they sure are splashing the cash.

City are being smart by raiding Monaco early. They have the players everyone wants to buy and won't sell them all.

And both Silva and Mendy would have been fantastic for us.

The problem here though is people treating Monaco like the perfect side. Dortmund had the same rep under Klopp but who was successful away from Dortmund?
It's dangerous signing so many players from one side after 1 good season. It's bordering on lazy and reckless.
Is every Monaco player one of the best players in world football in their position?
How much would Juve etc squad cost? It makes no sense to me. The price tags are outrageous.

Lewandowski is world class and arguably the best European striker. Hummels is brilliant, not many better central backs around. Both would walk straight into any Premier League team.

I'm not sure if there's anyone treating Monaco like a perfect side, but they had a very good season and it's fair to assume few of their young lads have potential to develop into top class players. Also, Monaco players seem somehow acquirable, and I personally think it would be a mistake not to try our luck with any of Silva, Mendy, Fabinho or Mbappe. Real gems, you don't find that many of those.

That's fair enough. There's a risk with any transfer. Miki hasn't done half of what he did in Germany with us. The leagues are weaker. These lads are some of the best players outside of the absolute top teams in the CL. On paper that's who you go for if you aren't up for giving youth a shot. What I find fascinating is Monaco will find players to slot right in for a tenth of the price and keep playing good football. I don't think they will complete like they did in CL again next year but that's fair enough. We should be able to develop players in the same way. Maybe some of our youth team will step up. Mitchell at left back could be a good squad option. Perriera in midfield. Mensa and Tuanzebe in defense.... one or 2 more really highly rated youngsters would really fit the bill here once the first team starts scoring again.

Kagawa and Sahin are always the two that spring to mind. Go back in time and fans would have spent what it took to bring Reus to Old Trafford.
Lewa and to a lot less of an extent Hummels ( he has had his critics) proves my point. A side like that will be lucky to have 1/2 world class players in their ranks rather than slitting our wrists because Fabinho / Mendy / Mbappe / Silva / Bakayoko (sp) etc aren't coming here.
Not every Monaco player is the ultimate player to get who will solve all of our problems.

We need a LB this summer, is there any other good options even available apart from Mendy?

Woodward is having a nightmare if he lets City get Mendy in addition to Silva. LB is one of the most important positions for us, and Mendy seems to be José's first choice. We are falling behind rapidly.

I'm not convinced Mendy's all that to be fair, he's good but he's not that good. Don't think he'll ever be one of the top fullbacks around, he's too suspect defensively. Woodward isn't having any sort of mare, the window's only just opened.

Says who? Unless you think Mendy is one of Jose's targets, that's muppetry of the highest order.

If we want or wanted either player, the deal would be happening or have happened. All these hysterical reactions prove is that some posters want the payers more than the manager

This!

The only thing that's a mare is the level of posting on the transfer forum

Well I assume he's first choice because the only other link to a LB I've seen all year is Kieran Tierney. Who's probably not as good seeing as nobody seems to be in a rush to sign the kid.

Things will calm down a bit when we get a few signings through the door ourselves, it's only May, we don't need to rush signings negotiations take time and we only need them to be signed before the tour.

That's the key. It's all based on seeing the guy play a few times for Monaco. The only player I've seen consistently deliver at the highest level this season is M'Bappe. Basically their coach has told them to throw caution to the winds and attack. In their league it works, in ours it'd be suicide and Jose knows it. He wants defenders who defend first and are able to attack. SAF was exactly the same. If you recall we bought a Monaco LB called Evra who did pretty well IIRC. But Jose's Chelsea had Ashley Cole who was world class at defending but could attack brilliantly. That's the difference.
No one can say that he hasn't seen a LB and a CB out there who can do both. It's a pretty redundant football world if Mendy was the only LB out there. Let's just calm it!

Agreed, the last guy who did things in a panic was Moyes and then struggled to find the positions for them

Erm, are people actually moaning about transfers already?!

The Europa League final was just a day or so ago ffs! :wenger:

You must have seen Jose's list.

I fell in love with that Mitchell kid when I saw him play against Palace. Can't we just leave Shaw there and make Mitchell fight for his shirt?

If we buy Fabinho, he's versatile enough to fill in there if there's a need for it.

We have to sign this guy!! Strong, Powerful, Pacey, good going forward and good defending.

Can´t see us going for him. Mourinho seems to prefer 1 offensive full-back and 1 who stays back (and the attacking one is Valencia at the moment). And even if it was a battle between United and City i guess he´d probably prefer to play in the more offensive minded set-up of Guardiola.

Says who? I'd like him here but there is 0 indication we are in fact after a left back.

We all know he's up JMs ass but he has zero inside track record when predicting transfers.

54m Euros seems a normal fee to me.

It's 2017. If you think the fees for him and Silva are out of the norm, you are in for a shock this summer I think.
