Benjamin Mendy | Man City player

Just had SSN on and sounds like he's linked with just about every top PL club.

From what I understand Arsenal tried to sign him last summer but he chose Monaco because he wanted to grow as a player before moving abroad. I don't know how much his mind changed.

Now Shaw looks like he's willing to fight for his place and starting to play well it'd be hard for me to get excited about Mendy. He's very good though and would be an asset for any team who signed him.

One game doesn't mean starting to play well. We need another left back regardless of Shaw.

I think chelsea are out of this because they really just got Alonso and have Azpi... We should really give shaw a chance because he will be surely a success, he just need games to build his confidence.

Besides what about Our Own CBJ, He has some really great crosses. We also have Fosu mensah though his best Position is yet to be determined.

Don't understand the preference to keep Shaw around. I'd like him to make it here, but if Mendy is willing to come it'd be a huge upgrade. He's only a year older and already much better.

Shaw is bound to shine in his career, He is taking a little time but he'll get there.

If you looked at Mendy last year under Michel he was wank, things change quickly at that age. So if you apply the same logic to Shaw with a bit of confidence he is perfectly able to be as good as Mendy next year.

People said the same about Nani and Anderson, we waited years for them, not everyone with talent takes the next step up as a player. Besides, I don't see Shaw ever being as good as Mendy will be.

Shaw has never really been the type of fullback to influence games in the attacking third, he's been involved in a very underwhelming amount of goals since his breakthrough, great defensively though. At a team like United, fullbacks should be judged on how good they are on the ball. Mendy just seems the type to have much better composure and a better final ball.

Once again though, I hope Shaw can prove me wrong and make it here, we need some English players in and around the squad.

But we have different priorities in the market next summer.

Besides nani was not a flop.

Last Season before the injury he was really getting to his best.

It was like 5 games, could have been a purple patch by all accounts. He still has everything to prove, he's talented, but so is a lot of other players. Talent isn't enough to become one of the best and one of the best is what we should be aiming for. He'll most likely have until the end of the season to change Jose's mind. With Young injured, he will get chances, it's up to him to make that position his.

Well i agree with this, but i feel we still need to be bit more patient before giving up on him. Selling is very easy. We sold Zaha now he's doing well. We sold Keane so is he, Pierera is doing well on loan. Lingard too took little time but he's getting there now. Remember Rafael who had a great energy and workrate with a better cross and delivery than valencia who really sharted to show something before lvg sold him.Same will shaw

If we keep on changing players we will be in 6th forever under the excuse of "transition". We won't achieve much if we don't trust our players.

So what if Mendy doesn't play well or doesn't play like Jose wants? dump him and sign the next flavor of the month?

Shaw is a big talent to just throw him away, Jose is playing him so hopefully this rumor will be settled when Shaw gets run of games.

Just to remind you so you don't feel or get another disappointment moment in your life.
Don't get your hope too much yet on Shaw. Still only 1 game.

Some fans don't understand, they think we need new players in every position. Shaw is a good player, he has pace to help the wingers and his defensive skills are also good. Buying new players is not the right solution always. What if Mendy takes time to get used to the PL, then these same fans will say "Let's sign that new random left back who is playing well for some random team, Mendy is not good enough for us".

Shaw was playing well before he got injured. Even Mendy might turn out to be a disappointment.

I'm not saying we must sign Mendy and forget Shaw. But we can't use 1 match performance as a proof that we don't need a new left back next season.

Incredibly pacy, strong while being decent in technique. Basically a left footed Valencia. I hope this is the first signing and will compete with Shaw for the LB spot. Gone are the days where players cement their place in the 11 due to a gulf in standards between first eleven and reserves.

Okay. If we sign Mendy, Shaw will become the 2nd choice LB. We don't know if he will be happy being 2nd choice and might leave. We don't want another Pogba situation where Shaw goes to some other team and plays like a world class LB, I am not saying he is a world class LB but he could become one in the future.

So do we roll the dice and not sign someone who is a better option now and hope Shaw becomes world class next season? How many seasons do we give him to prove he is United quality? I'm all for evaluating him on his contributions prior and over the rest of the season but if he doesn't show some glimmer of what he looked like in his first initial season, I'd move on. Starting to feel the same about Martial to be honest.

Hmmm, Duncan Castles hasn't been seen or heard for a while.

Think if he comes to the prem he will go City. Although all the current big hitters could do with a LWB/LB.

I think Shaw was bought with Bale in mind. Probably the management thought buying a LB from Southampton, would turn out to become a fine LW. Bale took time to develop though

Honestly if we want a LB I'd like to see us go for Bertrand

What?

As in Ryan Bertrand? Jeez

Couldnt think of a more robotic fullback

I think he's quite good going forward, good defensively, young, English, wouldn't cost a lot, ticks a lot of the right boxes

He'll be 28 by the time next season starts.

Good shout, I like Bertrand he's always quite solid when I watch him and he's good going forward. We don't need to spend a fortune on a LB when there's players like him that are cheaper and more than capable of doing a job.

I'd be very happy to have him and Shaw competing for the left back spot next season, I'd love Sidibe too competing with Valencia as well.
