Benjamin Mendy | Man City player

Watching him play makes me realise how dire we actually are at left back, even with Shaw fit but especially with Darmian or Blind there who are both so many levels below accaptable at left back. If City sign him they will have the best 2 crossers of the ball in the league.

This is such an important signing that we could afford to not sign a left winger, given Mendy provides a strong attacking presence down the left.

Just watching glimpses of Evra in Carrick's testimonial made me realise how lacking we are in that area. Evra would still easily be our best/most incisive LB if still at United. Mendy has the qualities to be similar to Evra and would be a very good signing indeed. Is he suited to Mourinho though? I think he may be just too attack minded for Mourinho

When was the last time we were linked with this guy? Or any LB for that matter. It looks like we're not in the market for one, which is odd considering we've been piss poor there for years now.

Well, Shaw did come to terms with Mourinho and only that last injury set him back. May be Mourinho sees full back qualities in him and thinks he will do the job.
He did say in interviews that Shaw has qualities he likes, so ... Fingers crossed.

To me, Shaw is good enough. With the right backing he could fill that slot for years.

I don't see Shaw making it here. He's been here for years and if anything has regressed. He's too unreliable. We can't keep hoping someone make's that position theirs, we have literally no threat down that side because of it.

I hope we go for this guy to provide width rather than a winger like Perisic. I personally prefer the approach where wing-backs provide the natural width and two mobile CFs help out... rather than out and out wingers with only a solitary CF. If City have given up on him and are trying to get Bertrand instead, we should go for him. He'd be brilliant for that position and so would Shaw, if he pulled his finger out and also managed to stay fit.

With our rumoured transfers at the moment (Morata, Lindelof) we could play the same formation Juventus played in the final. Plenty of depth for the long season too. Something this...

He certainly has explosive pace to go past his man and whip in great crosses, but he needs to improve his defensive work quite a bit.

I dint know france was playing against england, i was thinking why did he tweet about this and why is it not news.

"Monaco's French left-back Benjamin Mendy is determined to join Manchester City.

Despite Liverpool's long-standing interest and Chelsea's relaunch, Benjamin Mendy said yes to Manchester City. A desire to join the Citizens, which he told the clubs concerned and which he explained in recent hours to the Monegasque leaders and his coach Leonardo Jardim."

Oh well, I get the feeling we are just going to ignore LB for yet another season while we play the same self damaging game with Shaw we played with Hargreaves and Jones.

His odds have dropped to 1/8 odds on to City. His medical is booked in next week, if you believe what you read on some other forums.

City will absolutely romp the league unless the rest of the league gets there act together in the window.

Ederson
Alves - Kompany - Otamendi - Mendy
Fernandinho
Bernardo - KDB - Silva - Sane
Aguero

With the likes of Sterling, Jesus and Walker etc on the bench. Frightening.

I personally think Gundogan when fit takes that role behind KdB and Silva, but I get the jist. I still don't think we'd romp it, we never do, but it's certainly the best squad we'd have pulled together to date.

I know Pep takes some stick on here for spending money, but his reputation across Europe is staggering and players seemingly want to play for him, even if they know they'll be fighting for a place in a big talented squad. We've been linked with Sanchez AND another CB on top of the above so business might not even be finished there.

If the business does get done then it'll be an exciting season for sure. But Chelsea and United still have plenty of transfers in them yet.

Even without Pep, City have this incredible ability to just get a transfer done. They hardly ever have ongoing saga's, the players just come. Apart from Sterling I'm struggling to think of any.

Kaka still haunts me.

Berbatov, Van Persie, Hazard etc.

Let's not forget the fanfiction they had with Pogba for years back when he was the best midfielder in the world at Juve.

I think it's more so that the media doesn't cover them as much and produce constant drivel about them in the way they do with us because stories on them wouldn't get as much attention, so it just seems that way.

Agreed. We suffer from journalists wanting to put the United name in their papers every single day. Half the transfer stories about us are definitely made up, half of the remainder are probably made up.

The remaining 25% of the transfer stories (if that) we probably sign 4/5 of them.

50 million for a fullback, expect Kyle walker to go for a similar amount. feck me, no matter how good fullback you are, 100 million on two is Insane.

Then 50 Million for Stones and 30 Million for Otamendi, that's 180 Million for defence.

I don't see why really, especially as in Pep's system they are key positions. Not saying these players are great value necessarily but no real reason why a wing back should be cheaper than other positions.

I find it funny when these players tease moves to Man city. It's so cute that they think anyone actually cares about them.

Even if they won the Champions League, it would be a smaller deal then United beating Chesterfield in a friendly.

40 million for their keeper too. But i do not think the press will dare to put Darling pep under any pressure.
