Bebe

Just watched the game. He loves to shoot doesn't he?!

We have a new Gibbo. Shoooooooooot!

I say a lot of things in fairness.

But I am going to stick with my prediction. In 3 or 4 years from now after a few failed attempts at various clubs he will not be in a professional league

You think that, worst case scenario, in 3-4 years he couldn't make it in League 2 or in a lower league abroad somewhere?!

But all the while, in the present, that Manchester United are currently picking him?!

Just as an example, here are just three names that often crop up as part of Fergie's supposed worst signings/players and their current clubs:

Manucho - Real Valladolid
Dong - Hunan Xiangtao
David Bellion - Bordeaux

To clarify, those are all professional football clubs.

Its not bieber fever, its Bebe fever!

Manchester United are currently picking him?

It's pre season...United are picking alot of people.

He'll probably do fine in the future somewhere...if he gets a bit of regular football.

I think even our worst signings have had some decent games (or minutes) with us. Bellion has goals, at least I remember a few. Djemba had a decent game or two.

Liam Miller though, I can't really remember anything about him.

Worst comes to the worst and we need a goal in the last 20 minutes...bring him on with clear instructions.

One touch....shoot!

He could be like the player in The Mighty Ducks where he couldn't skate and shite but smashed the puck from anywhere.

He had a shot yesterday from at least 40 yards out, probably more - it was on target on well so you might be right !

Which shouldn't be a great suprise. You don't get as successful as we have been without a competent team of scouts. Even when players don't make the grade you can see what the scouts saw in them (although you had to look pretty fecking hard, when it came to poor wee Liam Miller)

Bebe could still turn out to be one of our worst signings, mind you. I just hope that a few more performances like that will be an end to all the drivel about him being a bung in human form.

I reckon the Portugese criminal investigation will do that tbf...

Lord Jesus Christ above...

It's fine knocking in a few goals in pre season, or against lower league opposition in CC matches...but his technical ability will be shown up at top level. It's crazy to think just because he can finish occasionally the rest doesn't matter.

He needs alot of work.

Jesus if Liverpool had spent this sort of money on a player that looked so below par you'd all be wetting yourself laughing.

Let's see what happens next season if he ends up out on loan.
Pleasing to see that my post has brought out a more religious/spiritual side of you londonred.....;)

Anyway, I'm not saying the rest of it doesn't matter, that will come in time as his confidence improves, but I was looking at the positive aspects of him as a footballer. The power of his shots is welll known within the squad (he's injured VDS a couple of times hasn't he) and he has a real hunger for goals. If we can make the best of his attributes we may have the makings of a good footballer here.

Funny you should mention Liverpool....must admit I had more than a chuckle when they bought Downing, Henderson and Carroll but I'd take Bebe over any of those three (over Macheda as well). I've never been a detractor of his since he arrived with us because I feel there's far more potential in him than in those three put together. Part of me thinks it would benefit him to go on loan but another part thinks he'd develop better with us. We'll have to see what happens but don't write him off yet.

Even Dong turned in some good performances on a pre season tour once, scoring a couple of good goals from the bench. Bebe will be sold as soon as someone bites.

It was Bebe's old team being investigated, not United.

The 21-year-old forward's £7.5m move from Vitoria Guimaraes is reportedly being probed by Portuguese police following reports that a large sum of money is unaccounted for.

A reported £3 million has gone missing from the transfer fee which was negotiated between Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes and United in August 2010.

It was claimed by directors of Vitoria Guimaraes that a sum of around £3m went to Bebe's agent as part of the dealings between to the two clubs, although the agent's company would neither confirm nor deny that the police had contacted them.

Sounds like a lot of nothing anyway, I don't think there is a rule saying how much an agent can be paid, is there?

I would think, with his late start and losing a year to injury, we'd be looking for a club to play him in every game he's fit for, whatever the level, rather than playing him sparingly ourselves.

Preseason tour aside.

I dont think Bebe will make it as a good club and international level player, but somehow, of all the 'flops' that Fergie bought, he's the one I really want to unexpectly succeed one day.

It's very heartwarming that he had a good game albeit against a weak opposition.

I'd like to see him loaned out to the Championship for 6 months.

Irish catholic roots old bean ;)

Well let's hope you are right. I'd very much love to eat humble pie over this one. It wouldn't be the first time.

So how was he tonight? I saw bits and pieces, and thought he looked decent. At least he isn't a laughing stock anymore!

I haven't either

but...probably the same as usual, has some potential, doesn't always make the right decisions but gets in good positions, and likes to shoot.

i still have a small hope he'll come good, and if not for us then for someone. But in order to do that he is going to need lots of games.

He need games and most probably it ll take at least 2 seasons before we see the best of him. Due to his circumstances he s a late developer. In the meantime the least us fans can do for him is to give him support and not making fun at his mistakes. If there was something fishy with his transfer, he s not to blame.

He had one LOL moment when he skied a shot in the second half, other than that I thought he looked promising again. His first touch has improved considerably since last year, despite the injury lay off.

He is 22, but he had no professional club till 3 years back. If he is learning, age doesnt matter.
If a 17-18 year old was doing what he did, we wouldve been pleased about the potential.

He'll come good... eventually.

Good for what exactly because he won't come good enough for Man Utd ever.

He done everything a professional football player should be able to do last night, not to mention he plays for one of the biggest teams in the world. He still looks way out of his depth. I cannot see him making it in any top division, the learning curve is just too big now.

people said the same thing about Darren Fletcher

Bebe ain't got no time for haters - a good loan with regular football might see him develop further

never say never big chin

I'm begining to wonder. He's recently clearly outperformed Macheda, yet most people still think he's not United quality (me included btw), but somehow think Macheda might make it since they're all still living in the past (the Villa game)

I've seen god knows how many comments saying it's clear as day he doesn't possess any quality, even just a tiny bit of talent, and definitely no potential. Not necessarily for United, but even just as a Professional footballer. Nearly all of that was based on him playing little to no games. He's had a bit more game time recently and you can certainly see the glaring difference between how he was in the last pre-season for us, compared to this one. Now I think it is without question that he has improved, it's clear for anyone who has watched his games, the question is have any of you changed your minds because of this?

Good enough for professional football at a decent level.

I agree with you on that; though I don't think he will be good enough for Premier League level; I would have thought that he will probably be good enough for a lower first division club in France or Turkey.

Thing is...he could continue like this and still lack the quality to play for United.

He obviously has something: he can run really fast for one, he seems to get in goalscoring positions often enough and he occasionally shows some quality on the ball.

However, I really don't want to see him getting game time for us at the expense of other players that need time on the pitch, players with enough upside to become players for Manchester United.

Pogba criticised the club for playing Rafael in midfield instead of him or another midfield prospect and I wouldn't want Bebe to be given games ahead of other prospects...............or Nani!

I fear that we want to put the guy in the shop window and that we might see him play a few games for us this year, if we can't get rid of him before hand.

If we really want to see him playing week in week out, along with Macheda then they both need loan deals to championship/league 1 clubs.

I've watched all our preseason games and I genuinely believe he's improving. He will make it as a professional footballer in a good league. Probably not with us though.

Accurately predicting future careers for young footballers is a mug's game. You never know whether they might be a late developer and there's lots of examples of kids that look world-beaters at 18 and never amount to much. In Bebe's case it's even more difficult, as his footballing education is so poor compared to the other players at the club.

One thing's for sure. He's showed in this pre-season why we were willing to take a punt and made a mockery of all the idiots who insisted he was barely good enough to start in their Sunday league game. He's raw as anything but has a lot of good attributes. He's out-performed players who probably will have a decent career as PL footballers, albeit in a very small sample of games. I'm not even going to pretend to know where he goes from here. I just hope he has a successful career at some level. It's a great story, if nothing else.

Well said. Particularly the bolded part, which is what made the negative views so weird. I don't remember people saying he would come good for United, but they entertained the possibility he might. For many it was without question he could even be in the same league, let alone the same team as United - and he still might not - but to say that after the few games he had, and the extremely limited time we've all seen of him was just stupid. It is a nice story and I hope he continues to improve, and also a reality check for those who think they can determine the end quality of a player after a few games.

There are glimpses of the "beast mode" he could turn into but really needs a 35 games/playing every week -of a season in the Championship. His crossing is awful and forexample yesterday(Aberdeen) left the LB in trouble a couple of times.

But as said, needs to stay fit this season..
