Bebe

Some foreign Journo posted on Twitter that Bebe was a leading candidate for young player of the year in Portugal. I can't be bothered to Google it, but pretty interesting if true. I would have thought he was too old for a young player award though.

Bebe will single handedly prevent Paços from getting relegated. I think he could be useful to a team like Braga or even my team Sporting (he´s better than Wilson Eduardo that´s for sure)

How much are guys willing to pay for him? Swap for Carvalho? Maybe a bag pf peanuts thrown in from our side to show our good faith :D

The change has been meteoric in Bebé, I see no reason to write him off as not able to make it here, he's beaten everyone's expectations wildly to date, and if that continues, I see no reason why he can't get a squad place if someone like Ashley Young can.

He's no Drogba.. but I keep thinking of how much time it took Drogba to develop.
Bebe is 23. He had no coaching till he was 17-18? Write a few years off for that..
A 20-21 year old being that good out on loan would get most people excited.
He's big, strong, skillful, can run with the ball and has a hell of a shot on him..

Reading Drogba's wiki
Former Le Mans coach Marc Westerloppe later remarked that "it took Didier four years to be capable of training every day and playing every week".

He'll be fine. Would be great if we gave him a new contract and sent him to a premier league club next season to see how he does..

Weren't there quotes from him, where he mentioned that no one from the club has kept track of his performances or been in touch? If it is true, than I am not sure that he would be brought back to compete for a place at United.

May be a couple of good performances in the world cup, if he goes and get minutes, might change that.

We'll let him go and in two years he'll be amazing. Can see it happening.

I have been very much a Bebe naysayer but I can't see any problem with giving him a two or three year extension on the off chance.

As far as I know, his performances has been quite some (considering how low they have been). Would be interesting to see if he was one to go for. Would not mind seeing him being loaned to a PL club or something, his performances surely must have caught some mediocre PL teams attention?

Perhaps it's better to look at it this way, I'd imagine his wages are a quarter of Ashley Young's, and his resale value will be similar (nothing), why not keep him and take the chance? I don't see what we gain by letting him go? Ashley Young on the other hand, 4/5 years older, costs 3/4 more per week, and I doubt he's much better tbh.

I too think this is a/some very good points. Just a question, why would you want to keep him, he is a direct competetor in the same position as you:o

I always fancied the footballing cinderella story of Bebe. He almost literally rose from the ashes into the top leagues of football. He's a bit unpolished, but he's an exciting player. If we can say that age is just a number when we discuss Giggs, I should that should most definitely apply to Bebe who, after all, was not introduced to the top levels before he was 20 or so.

The comparisons with Drogba are interesting, although he is a different type of player. Both are big and physical players, but Bebe is much, much faster, whereas Drogba was stronger. It also looks to me that Bebe is more about running with the ball and running in behind the defense than meeting the ball like Drogba and Rooney would. With his terrific physical attributes and that ridiculous shot of his, I think he might make a decent squad player yet.

I always liked the way he wasn't afraid to cross first-time, unlike some of our procrastinating wingers. So...erm...he's got that going for him.

Depending on how early our transfer business goes, I wouldn't mind him here as backup. I think one main problem is that he probably needs more football, not less, and I'm still not sure if a Premier League side would be willing to take him on loan.

Still, I think we'll see him during pre-season - hopefully quite a bit - and I think it's worth offering him a small extension to his contract.

The whole scenario with United has been so chaotic that he's got to do something bloody special to warrant us taking the lad back. If any PL clubs want to take him on loan then I'd see no harm in that.

Where does he actually play for Ferreira? In the europa league he played 2 games as the striker in their system, 2 left wing but I cant find anything about where he plays in the league

Bebe One More Time (feat. Moyes2Men)

Oh Bebe Bebe
Oh Bebe Bebe
Oh Bebe Bebe
Oh Bebe Bebe
How was I supposed to know
That somethin' wasn't right (Mendes)
Oh Bebe Bebe
I shouldn't have let you go
And now we've turned to shite yeah

Show me
That you're better than Nani
Tell me Bebe
'Cause Shinji has no balls
No balls

Ashley Young
Is killing me (and I)
I must confess
So is Tony (Tonyyyyyyy)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me Bebe one more time.

If we lose a striker in the summer and we don't buy one, as seems likely, then the obvious thing to do is promote one of the lads on loan.

Since we're posting chants...

Bebe (Tune of "Mandy" by Barry Man-U-low)

Oh Bebe
Well you came and you played without scoring
So we sent you away
Oh Bebe
Well you played against Crawley quite poorly
And we don't need you today
Oh Bebe

Despite playing for 14th placed Paços de Ferreira, he's only a goal behind Benfica's Rodrigo in the Portuguese scoring charts, and Rodrigo was bought by a third party investment firm for €30m in January.

9 goals and 4 assists at the moment.

Which "scoring charts" are these then? The only stats I can find online for him have him as scoring just one goal?!?

Looking at that, and his being the top Portuguese goalscorer in their own league...is it possible he's the top scoring Portuguese CF in the major leagues?

We all know what bandwagon that should mean, right?

There's a big difference between playing well for a small club in Portugal and playing well at Man United.

Not just what constitutes "well", but the pressure of doing it on the biggest stage and, sadly in Bebe's case, the fact that the press are desperate for you to fail in order to prove that Fergie is human after all (and, imo, a latent prejudice about homelessness).

It would take something pretty special for me to think that Bebe could make it here.

Definitely agree with that - with such a late start, I'd say it's imperative he get as much football as possible. I'd probably try keep him around for another 2-3 years... with another loan spell to maybe a Spanish side next season.

I still stand by my claim that he'll turn out to be a better player than Zaha.

IN BEBE WE TRUST

I think I was first to say in the summer that I saw Zaha as no better than Bebe. The response I got was predictable of course.

I'd love to see him go to Brazil though. He has some attributes that can make him difficult to handle. He was also very impressive on his last pre-season tour with us.

I agree, and I think that many have been guilty of this when praising the likes of Fletcher and Fellaini this season. I've said before, but when we finally pull our finger out and get an excellent central midfielder, people will realise how long it's been since we've had excellent midfield performances. All these 'Fellaini actually played well' etc is actually him being praised for mere competence more often than not.

This seems to be the best source of information for a game report of each of Pacos Ferreira's games.

Bebé has 18 (4) appearances in the league according to this site, I haven't got the time to check each one individually, but the two most recent games he scored at least 2 goals in were against Maritimo and Arouca.

Against Maritimo the XI was:
Antonio Filipe, Helder Lopes, Tony, Tiago Valente, R Da Silva

, Romeu (F Anunciacao, 84), Andre Leao, S Oliveira (Manuel Jose Vieira, 56), R Ribeiro (Rui Miguel, 70), Bebe, R Caetano

Against Arouca the XI was:
M Degra, F Boaventura, Jailson, Tiago Valente

, Jean Seri (Minhoca, 84), F Anunciacao

From what I can translate from a few random forums, it would seem he has played as inside forward quite often, so not the target man but their 9 drops deep and the two wide men usually have as much attacking onus from what I can gather as part of a 4-3-3 and what’s also quite interesting is that the 4 at the back seem to be a sweeper, a centre back and two full backs that are very wide, they then have two deep lying midfielders that literally play as 2nd and 3rd CB’s, additionally, their extra man in midfield has a lot of work to do and is very much a distribution player, so the formation looks something like:

………..GK
RB……SW……LB
……DM….DM….
………..CM………..
RF…….CF……..LF

I'm not surprised, that's ludicrous, you saw Bebé when he first arrived, Zaha was tearing up the championship, Bebé couldn't tear up anything at that point.

You always reckon you're the first to think everything.

I probably am.

But I get what you mean, I noticed I start a lot of posts referencing a post I had made before. It is needed on here in a world where every opinion is often challenged as bandwagonning or 'knee-jerk'. This is why I feel the need to always point out if something has been pointed out by myself prior to my saying it.
