Rooney has always been hot and cold and has always been given time, Steve has a point.

While Bebe deserves time you absolutely can not compare the two scenarios. Rooney's talent was and has always been there for everyone to see. It's very obvious. Even if he blows hot and cold he'll always get a chance. He's been among our top 2-3 integral players ever since he signed for us.

Bebe has never shown any of the potential which he might or might not possess so comparing Rooney getting time and Bebe is just ridiculous. Though yes Bebe should be given a chance even though I'm in favor of loaning him out next season.

Why wasn't Dong shown such patience? :wenger:

I would love to dig up post of those who might have said Dong should be given time, I can bet we can find the usual culprits.
I must confess that I listened to SAF before that Asia tour and wanted to give him extra time. :nervous:

We tend to trust in the players we sign to show improvement because they were signed by Fergie, who therefore sees potential in them. So you're making a false analogy. Of course, the manager doesn't always get it right, but I reckon he gets it right more than you do. So I'll side with him on this one.

Fergie did not watch Bebe before he was signed, so he was not really signed by Fergie.

Dong had Ruud, Rooney, Saha, Smith, Ole (at times) as competition. He was never going to get a chance.

Yet he's been playing him after having watched him in training for around 7 months, and obviously sanctioned the deal to go ahead in the first place. And has said openly that he won't be first team ready for a couple of years. He knows more about him than any poster in this thread I'd wager, and is willing to give him opportunities that could be used by others. Clearly thinks he's worth it.

Lets look at the bright side, Bebe has the potential to become our most embarrassing player ever.

Nobody is comparing the scenarios.

Today was about as bad as it gets. He needs to improve, but I have confidence he will. He's always been a long term project and there's no way he won't be given the time he needs to catch the other players up in terms of his development.

The lack of ability he's shown in his last few games is a concern but the lack of any real effort from both Bebe and Obertan is nothing short of a disgrace. They should be bustig a gut to impress in these games. They're not. Neither will make it at Utd.

Why on Earth did SAF switch the wingers around second half?

I was wondering the same thing as well. Maybe he thought Obertan would do a better job of tracking back - their leftback was putting in a few good crosses. But I thought Obertan was playing a lot better when he was on the left.

Okay lets close the thread... Going on border line perfetic!!

Saying all of our players, regardless of how stellar, deserve time doesn't please you? There's a manager called Benitez you might like, he basically uses a revolving door on the changing room.

He whipped in some decent crosses, some nice touches that almost sent Chicho on his way too...will get better

Caf goes into Meltdown...after a Win

I'm all for Bebe being given some more time but how can you even compare it to Rooney being given time!?

Rooney has been an integral part of 2 Carling Cups, 3 PL wins, 1 UCL win and one World Club Cup win.
So he has but you'd never have guessed it from today's performance would you. I would have excpected more consistency from Rooney by now.....and by that I mean consistently good rather than consistently mediocre.

Bebe made much more of an effort than Rooney today.

You said Ferguson does not get it right everytime, maybe Bebe is a new example.

why the hell Fergie signed him without seeing him played, 7m is just a joke for him, we be better off keeping Tosic.

You're asking me what the big gain in keeping him is, but what exactly is the big gain for us in selling him in the summer?

I don't care whether we sell him. I'd let him go now for nothing cos he is genuinely the worst footballer I've seen turn out for us in 30 years. He is fecking brutal.

The Crawley winger was better than him today and if anyone thinks he has a hope of developing, they're more deluded than that fruit loop off Rawk banging on about the dippers.

What has anyone seen in him that makes them think he's worth persevering with. It's not nerves or anything else... he's just just a park player.

The details of his transfer and that dodgy agent of his set alarm bells off & he's been completely gash every time I've seen him.

It's kind of hard to disagree, but surely someone at the club sees something?

If the 7m was a howler surely it's best to not play the fellow so everyone sees how shit he is, they must see something?

I dunno, Moses.

Ferguson "might" know a bit more about football than me.... but he must be mental when it comes to this chancer.

I know he's struggling (and today proved it), but still, I actually find it refreshing to watch a player who's not ponderous, has the courage of his convictions, will cross first-time, and who doesn't look as though his first thought is to pass the ball sideways or backwards. Not a few of our first-team players want to get rid of the ball asap, in case they're obliged to beat a man with skill or pace; Bebé doesn't have this fear.

What on Earth did anyone see in David Bellion or Dong? Yet, they were here.

I admire those who stick by the players only on the basis that "they are at United, they must be of some good" rather than judging a player on what they see over a period of time.

Less applicable to Bebe but anyone who sees any improvement in the other fellow's game since his move here is bonkers.

Let's leave it as this, we clearly disagree here with polar views on whether we should sell him, and neither of us looks like changing the others mind.

Refuse to rule him out after 7 games. Like Obertan they both need to go out on loan next season and get a few games.

Because a game here and there cannot be easy to find any form

Today was not a fair assessment on Bebe's entire United career. Berbatov had some similarly inept performances in his first two seasons. There needs to be more perspective from some on here demanding his exit already

I was not a Berba fan at all in his 1st 2 seasons, but I dont think you can compare to Bebe.

I think people are afraid that he can actually not play the sport o football. To be fair with the exception of his debut I can almost understand where they are coming from.

But then again as said above they must see something in him to have 1st signed him (albeit on advise from Carlos) but also in training. He must have something about him...

Neither cost 7m quid and were moved on quitre quickly, so it wasn't all that important what anyone saw. (Bellion came in for less than 2 and left for an undisclosed fee. Dong cost 500k+ depending on appearances.) Bébé is a far higher chunk of our outrgoings.

I haven't seen anything to convince me that he is worth the money but have enough humilty to think someone who has seen him more than 5 or 6 games on the tele might be better placed to make the call.

Best case scenario: Bebe turns out to not be completely useless and makes it in a Mickey Mouse league like the SPL. But let's not pretend that this kind of player is ever worth bothering with at Old Trafford.

I'm sorry for the guy. You know, I don't like to have be a fan calling one of my club's players shit, I try to get behind everyone, but what else can you do when you play against a non league side and one of your players is by far the most obvious amateur on the pitch?

I refuse to believe SAF would sign a player who is as substandard as some on here have already decided he is. Apparently he has been making improvements in training. There is often a clear gap between natural ability and performance in first team matches in the early stages of a players career and there are many factors which suggest Bebe is going to suffer from that. The comparisons between Berbatov are valid in the sense that Berbatov really did disappoint often in his two years and it wasn't because of a lack of ability - it was the failure of him translating his ability into performance - some might say it was psychological. This might be the case with Bebe. Nobody really knows. But it is foolish to write off his United career already. Again - why would SAF sanction the acquisition of such a substandard player?

At a guess I'd say football management is definitely not where your future lies.

I'm gutted. I thought I'd get in when Ferguson leaves.

Anyway, Bebe.... thank feck we got him before everyone else.

If City played this clown, we'd be in stitches laughing.

Bebe and Berbatov...sorrry, but thats the worst comparison ever. It was CLEAR Berbatov had the ability to play for us, it was just a matter of maximising that ability into the team. Apart from his physical attributes, Bebe hasnt shown any real ability that suggests he could be a top player. I may have overreacted in the very first thread on Bebe when we signed him, but who was it that decided he was a mixture of "Henry, Drogba, Adebayor and Ronaldo" based on one YouTube clip :houlier:.
