You can generally work out if a player will be good enough even if he has a number of bad games by showing glimpses of his potential. Unfortunately something has gone wrong scouting this player. He just does not have any tactical awareness, lacks balance and consistently looks clumsy.

I can understand a person not having ability. What I don't understand is his lack of effort to track back or even look as though he is putting in a shift.

Are people really judging a player that has had no real football education? I think everybody agreed at the start of the season in this thread (I think) that we should all expect nothing from him in his first season because of his unique situation.

Yet here we are with a decent portion of his first season left with some people writing him off. It's not really fair, give him a fair crack of the whip before ringing the death knell.

I agree. Haven't seen any glimpses of quality yet from him. Nani showed glimpses so one was willing to give him time. Hernandez, Smalling and Anderson have showed it. Bebe hasn't showed anything of note thus far.

I'm willing to give him more time but I'm not holding my breath.

According to fifa.com about 240 million people play football worldwide. I cant imagine how low the percentage is, but not many of those would be good enough to play for a club like United. We've done fairly well picking up talented players so far, have some faith! Bebe may or may not be good enough, but there's probably a good enough reason for him being picked up and if he dont make it here there's a fair chance he'll make a career for himself somewhere else. Richardson was called shit and worse on here and has done pretty well for himself after leaving

You don't pay 7 Million for a player who has no football education mate.

Mick, we are talking about professional football here. Young lads on millions of quid a year.

Sorry if we are expected to wait for the poor lamb to come good but there are hundreds of young lads playing all over England who are better than Bebe.

He's fecking rubbish. Cannot play football to an adequate standard and it's never going to change. It's not the lingo or the climate or the surroundings... he's shite.

Do you think N'gog is shite? I do. He's fecking brutal and it's never changing.... same with our lad.

That's the problem!

we are literally starting from 0 with a 20 year old

never seen a case like this before

I think that's fair. He isn't bad around the box as he's quite direct, but there's so many fundamentals lacking.

That's the reason I am annoyed at his performance. I'd forgive any player who had a bad game or who wasn't good enough, provided they gave 100%. I haven't seen that kind of effort from him in any match that I have seen him in.

Richardson was, and is more talented than Bebe.

When he was called shit, posters probably meant he lacked quality expected at United.

He even looks lazy playing for the reserves.

Well we did, compared to other young professionals he has had nowt. His football education is on par with a Sunday League player who has had a few trials. I can't begrudge a bloke making decent money when he really hasn't been dealt the easiest hand in life.

He looks over awed and that is something he will himself mentally have to overcome, it's up in the air as to whether it will happen but I don't think we need to lash a player that we don't really depend on, he's barely bit part when it comes to the squad.

Just a little more time man and you never know........

As an aside I still don't think we paid £7m for him, it's not been confirmed anywhere.

I think it was confirmed somewhere on here. Sorry I can't be of more help because I'm shite at searching for stuff!

desperately dissapointed with the performance today particularly the lavk of effort but for saf to pick him ahead of all our other youngsters he must see something special in him. in saf we trust.

I'm gutted. I thought I'd get in when Ferguson leaves.

Anyway, Bebe.... thank feck we got him before everyone else.

If City played this clown, we'd be in stitches laughing.

Gareth Bale used to be a running joke and now has people on the Caf wanking over the prospect of signing him for £30m+. People on this forum actively despised Nani and Berbatov and advocated selling them just a year and six months ago respectively. Could possibly say the same of Anderson before long. Fletcher.

This point isn't to say "these players were of a similar standard to Bebe currently, therefore Bebe can improve to their level", the point is to show that players can show dramatic improvement in a very short space of time. You can argue that "those players had showed they had some level of talent at some point" until you're blue in the face, the fact remains that each of them had been given up on.

 Fans always do this.
Bloody fans and their persistent stating of facts

Nah it wasn't. The clause might have been confirmed but not the fee, I checked last time this was brought up.

But everyone assumes we paid £7m because it's a stick to beat him with, just like Berba.

But he isn't on millions a year and unless it is a special case I doubt many young reserve players are.

I just find it amazing how fans view players as these emotionless creatures and the normal rules of life don't apply because they make good money. Unless you've lived his life (which has been pretty feckin tough in fairness) then I think it's a bit cheeky to write off a tough life and now the new challenges that await him and instead just claim that none of this matters because he is rubbish.

Sorry for cursing, I try not to in the football forums but I think it added a bit of dramatic affect!

Of course we do!

However, SAF made a very unusual comment of having never seen him play before his transfer. Something does not equate with me when such comment is made.

Richardson often looked aweful and absolutely cluelss for us, as well as sometimes showing flashes of what he could be/have been. Bebe has scored a few, both at first team and reserve level, also showed physical strengts and some technical skill. What he's working on in training atm, or what the coaches are telling him to focus on in games I'm pretty sure none on here's got any idea of. He's had some positives for us in games, and a lot of "negatives". I'm happy waiting for next season or the season after if the people in charge trust him enough to start him in any game we play!

Ask GCHQ, he'll know.

You're on the smack.

He's fecking gash. Fletcher, Anderson & Bale could kick a ball out of heir way if came near them. Bebe can't. He is an absolute sham.

I don't fecking care how much he makes. He's a shit footballer. Could not care less about his tough life. Millions of people had a tough life, they don't embarrass United by turning out.

Is it a charity we have going now?

He's not remotely comfortable playing on the wing. I thought that was pretty blatant and has been every time he's been bizarrely forced to play there. He was glad to get rid of the ball whenever he had it and didn't look comfortable at all running the line even though he at least had the guts to try try.

This is where I think SAF needs to take the stick rather than the player. Shove a nervous kid into a position he can't play in front of 70,000 people, and the kid is the one who gets slated when he doesn't perform...doesn't exactly seem fair.

He was no worse than Wayne Rooney either...who has none of the same excuses.

Basically, he's a striker Fergie, not a fecking winger.

Of course we do!

However, SAF made a very unusual comment of having never seen him play before his transfer. Something does not equate with me when such comment is made.

He signed Tosic and never played him. So Fergie obviously sees something in Bebe on the training pitch. Obviously, he's yet to reward that faith in a competitive game but it shouldn't be any great surprise if he takes longer than most to cope with the pressure of playing for United.

None of the above stop numpties like fadas deciding they know better than the manager but hey, no change there then.

Rooney and Bebe.... are you fecking joking with that comparison?

If Rooney played poorly for one half today, he has the backup of countless brilliant performances behind him. When he was 16, he was fecking brilliant. Better than Bebe will ever be.

I'm gutted. I thought I'd get in when Ferguson leaves.

Nah, give over, you didn't...you knew you'd never make it in that field of work.

There's a general tendency among fans to write off players far too quickly imo. If folk followed your way of thinking we'd have a team minus Berba, Nani, Ando, Gibson, Carrick, Fletcher, Vidic and Evra by now.

That's what City would be in stitches laughing at.

It was confirmed and Ferguson said we had spent over £20M on young players - Smalling, Hernandez and Bebe.

Manchester United sign £7.4m Portuguese striker Bebe | Football | The Guardian
The Guardian can assume what they like, the fee was never confirmed by either club. It was rumoured that Vitória de Guimarães confirmed that we paid the buyout clause but this was untrue.

It makes no sense for us to have paid the buyout fee.

Also, Smalling was reported to cost up to £12m, Hernandez ~£7, so your other point is fairly moot.

I don't think you watch reserves game, do you? He's played on the wing plenty of times for our reserves. He also seemed to mainly play wide at his previous club. It's clearly not a new position to him. He would have probably been just as useless in every other position on the pitch.
