SAF on Bebe in today's press conference.

"He'll be a striker"

Interesting.

Interesting especially as Bébé said after a game for Portugal U21s that he didn't like playing as a striker.

From the interview itself i still dont think Fergie sounded that sure about it. He's an experiment still in its early stages. At the minute i guess Fergies thinking of moulding him into a Drogba type player. If he turns out to be half the player Drogbas turned out we'll be well happy.

Probably was due to the fact that Portugal's U21's had only show off's and none of the cared to pass the ball to the CF's...

They were glory hunters and I wouldn't blame Bebe' for wanting to play RW on that team ( and once he did, he actually looked quite good )

Questions really have to be answered why so much money was paid for such an obscure player with so limited ability.
No surprise a big agent quickly arrived on the scene and trousered a million euros plus just for telling Fergie apparently with a straight face that Real Madrid were interested.

A few pages back there's a video of a goal he scored for our reserves. Watch it. Absolutely sensational strike. That should answer your questions and allow you to take off your tin-foil hat. Temporarily, anyway.

How do you know what limit he has to his ability?

Do you really think that Sir Alex is naive, that he will listen to an agent about the player, before signing him.

Our Scouting department and the coaching staff must have seen something talented in this guy, that's why we have signed him.

I'm not saying he is going to be a success(we don't know yet), but atleast give him one season before making a judgement on him.

I think he is a project that nobody knows if it will eventually pay dividends. What is highly puzzling is SAF paying such a high fee for a virtual unknown, yet so reluctant to fork out similar prices for proven talents like VDV or Sneijder in the past.

The problem is not the fee (who seems stabilizing themselves around the 20-30m mark) but the salary. Someone with a 150k a salary will cost the club more then 7m a year or 36m in 5 years. That's a big sum of money, expecially considering that by signing someone with that sort of salary you risk of having players coming to SAF's office asking for a pay rise.

I think that SAF's plan is to buy time. He will keep his old guard as long as he can to allow the current crop to grow old enough to replace them. If this plan fails then SAF will have to buy big but he won't turn to plan B unless he is certain that plan A has failed. Any talent that we will bring will probably be a promising player in Defour/Henderson mould.

The only exception to the rule may end up being the goalkeeper's department.

Does Man City fan David Conn every dig into the transfers of clubs other than United? Becaue he never seems to be so concerned about Citys transfers. His only story about City that I can remember was a soft-ball interview of Gary Cook.

I like David Conn, always seems like one of the better journos. There was a story in yesterdays guardian on how the whole paper is banned from elland road after his article on Leeds ownership a few years ago, so its not only United

He never digs into City though. With hundreds of millions being spent on players there are surely some dodgy agents that are getting paid off.

Even though he's a City fan (I've heard him say so in interviews and the like) I don't think he's the sort to let that get in the waynof an investigative piece of work

What's the story? "City went out and spent the most money possible?" It's not even close to as interesting as the signing of Bebe or Ronaldo.

And the story is not about United. It's a three part story about the Portuguese super agent.

I found it to be an interesting read.

very good

Pic of him in training with the first team on GettyImages. So whatever the injury was, must be over it.

In a game like this, you would have to show your talent or some potential. He just doesnt... 7m seems to be way over the top at this stage

He's fecking gash.

I have played football with lads who were better than him. feck it, at his age, I was better than him.

Laughable signing in a long line of shite we've bought. Bill Prunier was a better winger.

I can't believe how so many have made their minds up on Bebe already.

How is that even possible?

He wasn't even playing professional football 10 games ago. He's 20.

What would be the point in getting rid of him?

Some of the comments in the matchday thread are absolutely pathetic. No-one can argue he didn't have a poor game, but you lot are acting as if he's done this over a couple seasons. I can't understand how so many have made up their mind on him completely, especially given how time has shown so many as idiots in regards to leaping to such early conclusions on players ability...especially at the age of 20.

I think the expectations of some of the caf folk are unrealistic and absurd. Given the time he's had and the games we've seen, it's completely beyond me how some are saying we should sell him in summer.
