BBC: United hold talks with Mourinho

Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho become next United manager?

We could on the other hand have got him to sign a pre-contract back in February and let him work on signings in the meantime. Then we unveil him and his new signings just after the Euros. Both scenarios have been reported and the simple truth is no-one knows anything.
That makes sense somehow. But sense and the United board don't usually go hand in hand (sigh).

I keep thinking they must have some arrangement that gives him confidence. Otherwise surely we'd be hearing about him with other potential suitors? Just doesn't make sense for him to put all his eggs in one basket.

Th club knows Mourinho doesn't have an option but to wait. Where else will he go?

Yep, i honestly think hes an idiot.
He's definitely not an idiot, but he just doesn't seem to have much of a feel for sport and football in particular.

When it comes to the transfer market (and indeed the managerial market) he's like a vicar in an orgy, totally naive and bewildered by what's going on around him.

He's in the job purely because he's a Glazer stooge, and I'd be surprised if he even took an interest in football before they took over the club.

Yeah, in my own opinion there's too much smoke here. BBC reported the talks, then there was silence. He's been linked with no-one else, he was "off to Manchester" according to an Inter board member, and him being contractually forbidden to take another job this season fits with Van Gaal still being in a job despite not being able to do any worse if he tried. For me, he's coming. But that won't stop it being squeaky bum time until i see hold him holding a red scarf.

Ok, you are right.
Emotions clud my view.

That makes you an idiot then, really, no one earns such a position at a club this size while being an idiot.
When it comes to the football side of things woodie is 100% stupid

It's been clear since day 1.

Don't want to see Jose having to wait. Hopefully he'll take the Madrid job.

If he's truly keen to get this as his next job then why not? He isn't some unemployed with a huge mortgage to pay off. He's in his 50s, has won most of what there is to win, and is a multi-millionaire. I really don't see the need for him to fuss over getting his next job.

Plus there are no other potential suitors of anywhere near Utd's standing anyway. H's got absolutely zero bargaining power.

People need to get used to the idea. If we come top 4 and win the cup, LVG will be here.

It's cool to hate. It's hip to be negative. Some fans just want to moan about everything. They think it makes them look more intelligent. Or they are actually geniuses, because everyone else doesn't know how to play football, or manage one of the biggest Football clubs in the world except them.

I don't hate Woodward and I don't want to overreact because I don't have enough informations at my disposal but I don't like the idea that the club is not sure about who should manage the club next season, that is not the type of question that you ask yourself in May. In May you are supposed to have finished all your plans and you are supposed to be close to the end of their realisation, you dont' plan in May, you act.

PS: I think the club know who is going to manage the club next season and everyone involved know too.

And you're on personal terms with executives of multi billion dollar businesses?

What if tell you that i actually know board members of the biggest companies in Poland? Think of companies that exceed Uniteds market captialization tenfold.

But that irrlelvant.

Many say that Bush was an idiot. Does one bocome a president of USA if he in an idiot?

To be honest Castles report makes the most sense to me. I for one cannot believe we would have signed a contract with Mourinho, when the possibility still exists of LVG staying next year.
Also, I heard LVG say "I need top 4, the club needs top 4". LVG knows only that would guarantee him the final year of his contract.
BBC only said the club has made contact and that was way back in December. Di Marzio said there is a verbal agreement but absolutely nothing on paper. Not even a pre contract.
I think Mourinho knows him getting the job this summer depends on top 4. But there's nothing he can do he has to wait. There probably aren't any other top clubs queuing up.
The fact that the board is divided on Mourinho even makes it more difficult for Ed to sack LVG if he makes top 4 and wins the cup.
LVG's future is in his own hands.

Yes. Next... Donald Trump?

Mourinho will come and that's what he's waiting for. We're not gonna announce LVG's replacement while we're still in a chance for top 4 and the FA cup final.

This is the longest saga ever. Slams the Sneijder/Thiago etc. threads. Not longer than Gaitan though

It's basically a win-win for us.

We win FA Cup - hurrah!
We get into top 4 - hurrah!

We fail one/both of those - Mourinho likely/definitely comes, hurrah!

From Today's Times by Jorge Mendes's favorite journalist.

Just rehashes previous things i.e Mourinho is confident of getting the job and there've been informal talks.

I am officially hoping we finish outside top 4. I just don't trust Woodward if we get into the CL. Our situation needs to be made untenable to force his hand.

No he became president because he could invest millions of pounds of his father's money into doing so. Right so, a chartered accountant who worked for companies like JP Morgan and more than doubled our commercial revenue in the space of 7 years is an idiot. Honestly.

Care to tell me what you base your conclusion that Woodward is an idiot on?

I have given up expecting a logical explanation in this regard. It seems it's just a simple case of hatred. I suppose if love is blind, so is hate. People feel it but can't explain why.

It's a bit baffling how they can hold so much hate for someone they know almost nothing about.

Mourinho must have nothing better to do, because I'd tell United to feck themselves.

What a massive boost it'll be going into the summer if we can nab top 4, win the cup and confirm Mourinho.

The last two are only ones I'm confident about though.

If we assume the poll above is your typical fan, Woodward might be in the 20% that doesn't want Mourinho. Or even the 8% that doesn't want him sacked at all in the 'LVG out' thread. I don't like the odds myself.

Indeed, it is, although I do suspect a good portion of posters do not feel that strongly about it one or the other; they are just falling in line with other, more vocal, posters: Someone mentions Woodward hasn't a clue and pretty soon it is accepted wisdom.

The moment I see Duncan 'Albino Creme Egg' Castles' name under an article I immediately switch off.

LVG's future is in his own hands.
So our board will make a decision on our future by watching the City vs Arsenal game today. Instead of evaluating the whole season they will just wait to see if City can drop some points and we squeeze into top 4....get real. Our board can't be that stupid and incompetent. Decision will already be made

I need someone to explain the hatred of Woodward to me. Is it just because you think he is going to give van Gaal another season or is there something else?

Because people think that being a Vice Chairman of a big organisation is a piece of cake and can be done by any fool I guess.

The board does not want to pay out van Gaal simple. They are not bothered with another seaosn or football torture.

But why should Mourinho wait another year.

Whatever happens in the next 3 matches, Mourinho should be appointed.
But these guys don't care about the supporters.

I highly doubt that it's the case, since he only has one more year in his contract the club only has to pay the equivalent of one year of contract so 7m£, that's nothing.
