Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho become next United manager?

So what happens if we have a verbal agreement with him, welch on it and keep LVG. How many top class managers are likely to consider any offer we make as serious the following year when LVGs contract is up?

He signed a pre contract and if we don't take him he'll get paid for having waited. So I imagine any other managers will feel we behaved perfectly well.

Whether they'll want to manage a club that has no fans because they committed mass suicide is another question.

I don't think it's working exactly like that.

Jose stated that he's calm & happy and waiting to June with his move to the new club. His friends in Italy and Di Marzio guy are convinced it's about United which obviously is his desired destination which could explain why he was in positive mood when interviewed.

Moyes had longer contract and it didn't matter in the end but this time we'll have to wait with board's decision to very end of the season and looks like even Mourinho is willing to wait from his own words. That time gap creates a lot of opportunity for speculations and it's exactly what we're seeing right now.

Telling Jose to wait a year is obviously a joke. Even goofy chap like Woodward wouldn't be that retarded.

@Acquire Me ....Are we still confident about Mourinho or has there been any game changing development's like Mourinho to wait another year?:(

You are the only ray of sunshine in this dark and gloomy thread!

If we had only a verbal agreement it would be clear to both parties that it wasn't final and the situation may change. That's why it's only verbal and not written.

The difference when Van Gaal goes is that there will be a vacancy to be filled - at present there isn't one.

At present anyone can make anything they like of the situation, and people will believe whatever snippet of "proof" they come across depending on what they believe already. Anyone who claims to know anything more than anyone else is simply telling porkies.

The theorising can start in earnest probably next Tuesday evening, by which time it will be clear whether 4th is still on or has gone.

It would be ridiculous, classless, disrespectful to Van Gaal and downright idiotic to make any plans public before the cup final

Louis still has work to do this year but I think he will be thanked for his service at the end of May/Start of June - until then you won't hear anything but the desperate stories of click bait hungry journalists trying to wring as much out of this speculation as possible

Why Tuesday evening, if United lose to Norwich and City beat Arsenal, 4th is over by Sunday night, but you believe this and you're telling porkies;)
Anyway 4th has nothing to do with it:p

Can't explain why but I'm pretty relaxed that all this is sorted now.

Even if we do make top 4 and win the cup I think the timing of Mourinho being available whilst all our rivals (bar Arsenal) have strengthened has proved too tempting.

Expect an announcement to be made shortly after the FA Cup final which thanks Louis for his services.

I believe 4th has everything to do with it. I think Woodward is desperately trying to find some justification for keeping Van Gaal on and making 4th would, in his mind, give him that justification.

Do any of you actually believe that Van Gaal will now be your manager next season?

From the outside looking in I'm starting believe that he will be.

If he does leave, on a personal level I'll actually be disappointed as I like him, I think his press conferences and interviews are great.
A lot of us are getting more and more skeptical by the day. But either way, I don't think anyone has a answer. Well know after the FA cup final I guess. Top 4 would also go a long way into the decision. Fwiw, either way, I want him gone for various reasons but at this point, no one knows what's going on except the Board & owners.

On your last bit, I don't mind him personally (though he's extremely arrogant) but I guess he is more like able for oppo fans because he has us playing turd  similar in a way in which his arrogance would be more like able for united fans - if he actually got results & had us on the up.

1st place would be justification. Even 2nd place.
CL final or CL win, would be justification.

WTF is with this 4th place trophy? Apart from Arsenal which top club accepts that 4th place is some sort of elite achievement?
If Jose joined us and he finished 4th, he'd hang his head in shame and accept that he he failed...big time.

It's his arrogance that I like because unlike some I don't think he's at all rude with it. I think the media bashing and baiting of him has been extremely ugly to watch and I think he's handled it brilliantly.

I can totally see why Utd fans would view it differently from myself, but I've taken to him and have found myself wanting him to turn things around for himself. I find a lot of the PL managers just so dull.

The way this league is going 4th is going to be a result for anybody. The rumours of the money West Ham are going to be throwing around this Summer now that they have a brand new free stadium are interesting to say the least. There is going to be a host of teams fighting for top 4 next season:

Utd, City, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham, even Chelsea may get a look in and maybe throw in a surprise team a la Leicester this season.

It's not going to be easy for anybody.

Firstly am totally convinced the decision has long been taken and secondly fourth was the minimum requirement in his first season, not his second.

I'm not justifying it, I'm saying Woodward might consider it justification.

Are you saying 4th place isn't worth trying for? We are where we are, not where we'd like to be.

Yeah I can fully understand that view. I myself find it difficult to dislike him as a person but I guess the football and results have turned things against him.

From Today's Times by Jorge Mendes's favorite journalist.

Just rehashes previous things i.e Mourinho is confident of getting the job and there've been informal talks.

No surprise really, it's always been my view that Woodward will try to find any justification to keep Van Gaal in post and if we get 4th it would strengthen his hand, hence the wait.

Woodward can go feck himself. Incompetent decision making.
That's just the problem though, no decision is being made one way or the other - incompetent or not. They're not going to make it until the last possible second, and I bet even when they do they won't be sure they've made the right one.

So Mourinho is hanging around without getting some firm confirmation from the board? Surely if they're dithering like this it puts him in a bad position as come the end of May, they could turn around and feck him off. Doesn't seem so smart to me when he could be actively looking to tie down a deal elsewhere, and it doesn't leave much time if he waits around for us.

None of this stuff makes sense from either party.

We could on the other hand have got him to sign a pre-contract back in February and let him work on signings in the meantime. Then we unveil him and his new signings just after the Euros. Both scenarios have been reported and the simple truth is no-one knows anything.
