What should be a simple and gracious gesture of congratulations comes across as cocky and arrogant from the man responsible for the fact Chelsea had the poorest title defense since our Moyes season.
No, you see that was the Chelsea players' fault because it went wrong. Unlike the year before which was masterminded by Mourinho. Just like how Pedro went from being a great signing by him after his first few games to another of Roman's duds that were forced on him when it turned out he's a bit shit.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Tbf, there are a couple of people on here who genuinely know a few things, or at least might hear certain stuff whether that's from media people who've gotten it from a source or whatever and they wouldn't dream of posting it in here for fear of being abused and/or hounded for info. So, yeah, I don't fully get it myself but regardless I'm not sure people are going to be any happier when he does.
Not to mention not being told shit in the future.

I've said it before but the phrase that sums it up for me is; 'those who know don't speak, and those who speak don't know'.

"I have lost my title to Leicester City"

Why not paste the full statement?

In a statement issued by his management company CAA Sports, Mourinho said: "I want to congratulate everyone connected to Leicester City; players, staff, owners and fans.

"I lost my title to Claudio Ranieri and it is with incredible emotion that I live this magic moment in his career."

Seems perfectly fine to me.

I know mate, it's really worrying.

I just cannot understand why they would overlook a world travelled, highly experienced coach that has had success in every country he's worked in for the Van Gaal Giggs double act. It's insanity.

It seems to me, some members including none members would rather the club sink to the bottom of the ocean, than give Mourinho a chance. Some are obsessed with giggs getting the job, and they would rather play Russian roulette with the clubs future, and they will find out just like moyes how wrong they will be appointing giggs.

oh, feck this shit. i'm done. i'm done.

But according to VG, expectations are too high, more like the VG is too old to play this game

Of course that is what the targets were, common sense shoud tell you that.
It wasn't Year One get in CL
Year Two balls it up and make sure we are in EL

If this was the plan discussed during the contract negotiation, the board (decisions makers) deserve to be fired.

lol. he was the defending champion of England.

This is probably the right thread to put in this reply/view:

I hope so amol. Even though I'm not the biggest Mou fan, I'll be happy with his appointment.

Same here.

My one worry with regards to Mourinho, and this is probably more for the other thread, is that I hope he's not past his best. All great players/managers have a phase in their career spanning a number of years (usually) when they are at their absolutely sharpest and everything they touch/everything decision they take, turns to gold. I just hoping we aren't getting a much more worn out, not-so-special version of the guy Chelsea and Inter signed. Yes, he could easily just waltz in and carry on winning like he usually does, but everyone isn't SAF who carried on being special for decades upon decades. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be another case - as with Falcao and Schweinsteiger (so far) or LVG - of Untied going for the obvious signing/appointment when they're on the down, while others go for those on the up.

It's a small doubt, but one nonetheless. Mourinho's transfer activity could easily kill any such fears pretty quickly though.

Yes it's not. But most know LVG will not take the chance even if others slip.
Well, yes - but you can't sack someone on the basis of what might or might not happen.

I'm certain in my own mind that a decision will be made on the basis of whether we get 4th or not. I really don't see the FA Cup being a factor. Even if a decision is made this week or next, it may not be communicated until after the FA Cup final. That's if he's sacked of course, if not we may never hear anything.

Do you really think if he bundles us into 4th his job is saved? Please. Our ambitions are far higher than that, suggested by our willingness to spend big in the transfer window. He was brought in to challenge for the title and has gone backwards after more than half way into his contract.

Moreover, he's lowered our stature by literally saying Europa is our level. A brand, sponsor and board member would look at this and know he's not going to last by seasons end.

What I, you and everyone else on here think(s), is irrelevant. There are other factors at play here, namely those in power who are opposed to Mourinho and who will have an influence on the decision on Van Gaal.

Personally I think he should go, and while I'm not fully convinced about Mourinho I don't really see any realistic alternatives on the horizon.

Yes hes a cnut, but I hope he comes to United to win "his" title back

"Ranieri, keep Mou's trophy glistening....walking in a Jose wonderland" doesn't have the same ring as the song we sang 10 years ago.

(Has it really been TEN years since we broke Chelsea's run of titles? Woah)

?

Anyway, there might be opposition against Mourinho but its never going to be enough to halt his arrival. There is far too much traction on it, and the club won't want to lose face by risking further mediocrity and a good 5 years of "I told you so" by the media. Football is also a business, and the members know they need to bring Mourinho in to stay on top. It doesn't take a genius to work that out.

No matter how you want to spin it ultimately it is Mourinho making it about himself.

The entire world is reacting to Leicester's achievement. There is nothing wrong with the former champion congratulating the present one.

His congratulations were an aside to his comments which were all about himself.

"I want to congratulate everyone connected to Leicester; players, staff, owners and fans.
"I lost my title to Claudio Ranieri and it is with incredible emotion that I live this magic moment in his career."

^ yes, that's all about himself.

Fail comprehension in English when at school did you?

He's describing his happiness to see a team like Leicester win the league. Its not self absorbed or anything of the sort.

You've got to have a pretty big agenda to take issue with that statement of congratulations.

Maybe so, but consider this - the club had every opportunity and reason to sack Van Gaal in January, but didn't. Why not?

I've seen this concerned raised a few times especially by those "against" Mourinho, using Chelsea's last season as a stick to beat him with. It's a valid concern, though to put it into perspective, that season at Chelsea was an anomaly and not the norm.

It could easily go the other way, where Mourinho finally finds a club where he can settle down at because, let's face it, it will probably be the first elite club he's at where he has total control over all things football, and then some.

It's going to be an interesting dynamic though. I see a lot of similarities between Mourinho and SAF, but there's the obvious differences as well. But for the (major) lack of a better option and LvG's struggles, I think we need to approach Mourinho. Even if it's just to get the club back on track, especially considering the quality of managers coming in over the summer.

I agree that it appears, based on his track record, to be far-fetched. And I suppose it stems, as much from the recent outcomes of our bigger signings/appointments, as anything else. But I guess that's what niggling worries usually are like. If it was a very obvious and likely outcome, then I wouldn't be for Mourinho in the first place! This is just a minor concern (which could obviously be a big deal if it came about). Within 2 months of him being here it will probably be quashed.

Yeah I guess it goes without saying, but nothing in football is guaranteed but I think he has the experience and know-how of winning and what it takes to win the EPL, though I can see the league becoming more and more difficult to win tbf.

It's going to take SAF like consistency, especially against the bottom half of the table to have any chance of winning this league because the top 6 or so, seem like they're going to be able to take points off one another consistently.

But yeah, I do know the niggling feeling you're talking about. I too thought Mourinho was going to come back to Chelsea and stay for 5-10 years and have sustained success. I'm sure many thought that too. But he does seem a tad bit "bitter(er)", at this stage of his career, versus "the Special one" days. Madrid and his 2 Chelsea experiences most certainly could have done a number on him. But we'll have to wait and see.

It's cryptic, but pretty blatant IMO:

"I want to me congratulate everyone connected me to Leicester; players, staff, me owners and fans. I lost my title me to Claudio Ranieri and it me is with incredible emotion me that I live this magic moment in his career me."

I realise this is a parody but "my title", " I" live this moment in his career. He knows how to attention seek when it suits him.

What did he think of Ranieri in the past?

José

"Ranieri...has the mentality of someone who doesn’t need to win. He is almost 70 years old. (Ranieri was 55 at the time)He has won a Supercup and another small trophy and he is too old to change his mentality,” Mourinho said.

"He’s old and he hasn’t won anything. I studied Italian five hours a day for many months to ensure I could communicate with the players, media and fans. Ranieri had been in England for five years and still struggled to say ‘good morning’ and ‘good afternoon.'"

You can really see why he's so well liked..
