If it's a done deal the bookies don't know it. You can now double your money betting on us as Mourinho's next club.

If we keep winning, then it will be hard decision for the management. 6 home wins, 5 clean sheets, 1 point behind 4th. Right now, we cant sack him and the longer it goes, the longer Mourinho is delayed. I know mou will wait for us, but Van gaal is a lucky bastard and i have a feeling he will fluke into top 4 on expense of arsenal that will cause arse to let wenger go and hire Mourinho. That would be the worst situation possible.

Jesus Christ, that would be dreadful. I hope that Mourinho is already signed, but if that is the scenario then I would honest to God rather miss out on CL next season.

All this reminds me of last summer when people were worried we aren't going to buy Schneiderlin because we bought schweinsteiger because a few journos claimed it.

There's 0 need to announce anything regarding a change in manager right now when there are still games and a lot to play for.

You are probably right, but I'm still fecking bricking it.

Speculations are pointless at this point. The only one who knows for sure is woody, and i don't think he goes each week to the media with his feelings, this week he wants to keep van gaal and the next he wants mourinho, just pure speculations from everyone.

The article from Guillem is specially funny, sine it's based on nothing but his feelings.

Arsenal are not going to sign Mourinho. The suits at Arsenal will not allow this to happen due to his personality.

My only worry is LvG staying in the job. Anyone else will be an upgrade. Even begging Moyes to come back.

Conspiracy time - could Mourinho's camp deliberately be encouraging the PSG stories even if United is definitely on?

The stories of Mourinho to United are after all rather distracting for the team and Van Gaal in this absolutely crucial stage of the season, so it would kind of be doing the United hierarchy a favour.

/desperation

I hope to God he is our next manager. At least he will bring some excitement to Old Trafford, even if it's just through him dicking about on the touch line.

So you think if it becomes impossible for us to get top four before the cup final (if we make it, of course), he will be sacked? Absolutely no chance. He's here until the end of the season at the very least.
They could do what Celtic and City do, announce that LVG will be leaving at the end of the season. If the shares dip as a result of losing out on CL then a pretty good way to bounce back from that would be to announce Mourinho as the incoming manager.

Aye, they could. I just don't see any clarification until the end of the season, especially if there is still the FA Cup to play for.

Reads like a guy totally out of the loop. I would be disgusted if we didn't hire Mourinho at this stage.

Nope for once somebody (even if it is Balague) talking a little sense - there are just to many things wrong with appointing Mourinho. He doesn't fit at OT. Much better at PSG.
Funny to see the Mou muppets scrabbling about trying to find some justification for continuing to believe..

Of course he does, he's a serial winner. Anything else is romantic bollocks.

Yeah, winning trophies is a terrible justification. Eejits.

The next few weeks may decide - if we were to get 4th and win the FA Cup it'd be difficult for Woodward to dump him (personally I'd still dump him but that's another story).
If Woodward finds it difficult to sack Van Gaal in those circumstances, against the backdrop of the season we've had, in his second year at the club, then he really isnt cut out to be in a position of authority at a club like Manchester United, where he is being paid to take tough decisions. Because as decisions go, it really wouldnt be that hard.

I think this is part of the reason I reject the whole idea of being happy to miss out on 4th if it means we can sack LVG. If Woodward DOESNT sack LVG this summer, regardless of what happens in the FA Cup and us managing to secure 4th on the last day of the season, one more year of LVG is the least of our problems. It means our senior management are absolutely clueless and are likely to make bad decisions again and again, if it isnt LVG itll be something else, we might as well just get used to consistently idiotic behaviour from the club.

Do we reckon it'll be another 6 weeks till this gets announced? I don't think I can wait that long!

It'll be sometime in May but when exactly depends on our results. If we keep having a chance of top 4 and/or winning the cup it won't be announced until that is over.

However, that doesn't mean the decision to let LVG go hasn't already been long decided, which I'm 100% convinced has already been taken, even if we win all our remaining games.

Perfect scenario now for LVG and the club is for us to make top 4, win the cup, LVG announces his retirement, happy that United are in the CL and walks off with a trophy 'title' in his last game.
Other scenario, we don't do that and he's sacked anyway

I think LvG is off once the season is finished, but I would not be surprised if he stays on. Woodward seems close to him and he will give him every chance possible

Who'd you appoint instead? I don't understand this "doesn't fit at OT" bollocks, why doesn't he? Because he isn't a saint? Neither was SAF but we chose to ignore that over the years because he was on our side. Because he doesn't play youth? To a certain degree that's the only excuse I agree with but then when you factor in at clubs like Chelsea and Madrid, producing youth players ranks low on the to do list. Because he doesn't play attractive football? Again rubbish, Jose plays winning football. Some of the football Chelsea produced in the first half of last season and the football his Madrid side was brilliant to watch.

Give the choice between Jose, LVG and Giggs (the three names most linked to next season hot seat) it would be a joke if we didn't go with Jose.

Apart from actually liking him as a person, you know as a friend. What other logical reason is there to not sack him in the summer and get Jose when he is available?

What if Woodward believes that LvG has been unlucky with injuries and likes what is he doing with the young players. Maybe Ed thinks showing faith in the manager and giving him another chance will pay off and they can stick to their long-term plan of giving it to Giggs once LvG has built his team.

Not that I agree with any of that, I just want LvG gone but I think it's very possible that LvG will somehow keep his job.

This is exactly what I think is happening and also clearly shows why mourinho is still unemployed while dropping hints like ' I would like to manage in the best league that is EPL' and stuff. It's just a matter of time before he is appointed.

Id agree with that if Woodward was some sort of football purist who wants the kids/Giggs to be the new face of Man Utd. But he doesnt seem like it and seems to love a muppet transfer or 2. Also, he is a successful business man who must surely by now realise that United need to be winning to continue making money.

If he ever has a biography, I will definitely buy it just to read about these lat 2 years and what went through his head. Because I dont get it at all.

I would be more inclined to know what goes on in LvG's head. I mean after a match, he picks the worst of the lot and says they have been the best (mostly Fellaini or Rooney), makes the most baffling subs, makes the most confusing starting line up with multiple players out of position.

This.

If we weren't going to announce him, then this is the kind of stories that would come out. They forgot one - Jose to replace Wenger :) If we are not announcing anything, then that's that. It's not good to announce anything mid season - ask City. I would like to think the board have some common sense but it might be they are trying to penny pinch. We'll see.

But if Woodward doesn't understand football then he might think it's best to listen to the football men at the club, who all tell him Giggs is the way. How Giggs won't spend a lot of money, how it's what the club is all about. And he if is he really close to LvG then LvG might have convinced him that he has been unlucky and he needs time. Not making a decision is easier than making one. Club has been a mess since SAF left and Woodward came in to head transfers.

These football men also gave him Moyes so if he's smart he will ignore them.

I never understand the theory that Woodward doesn't understand football and needs football men to make decision. I think the majority of us knew at the time Moyes was a very bad decision for example and we aren't football men

I do agree and I do hope Woodward takes some decisive action. But judging from the past, I'm not holding my breath.

My only consolation is that Jose has not accepted any job offers till now so far, and that he's probably blatantly waiting for us to offer him one in the knowledge that it will come in the summer and the club have given him some sort of word. Surely he wouldn't want to be unemployed for so long for a guy so egoistic like him. I mean, he will surely want his future to be settled as quickly as possible if he wasn't waiting for us

My main worry is that Woodward is so attached to van Gaal that if he ends up sacking him, Woody will look like an incompetent idiot after two failed managers.

With that in mind, if van Gaal manages to scrap top 4 and/or the FA Cup it will give Woodward all the justification he needs to keep van Gaal in order to avoid looking like a fool all over again.

The next month will be really interesting.
