Obviously we wouldn't dream of announcing this now like Chelsea have their manager. No doubt the dithering and silence from the club will go on for a while when the season closes.

How can we announce it like Chelsea, Hiddink is in charge till end of season, publicly known, Conte in charge of Italy until after Euros , publicly known, Conte to be Chelsea's manager- almost publicly known. Not quite the same .

I don't know who Fabrizio Romero is, but i like what he says, so i chose to believe he is ITK!

Roose Bolton and Walder Frey prefer Ryan Giggs.

"I like the way 'Riggs' thinks!"

Chelsea have confirmed Conte is taking over.

We can say that Van Gaal is leaving and Jose is coming in?

Exactly. World class dithering while other clubs have it all official and no uncertainty looming.

You don't announce a new manager while another guy is still in the dugout. We didn't do it with Ferguson until someone leaked the story and we were forced to and it was he himself who had decided to leave anyway, it's not like we were sacking him.

And we didn't announce Van Gaal until after Moyes was sacked. So why would we announce a new manager while LVG is still in charge?

United have did some questionable things in the last few years but they're not that bad.

That's exactly what Man City have done. Although I will agree with you in the sense it hasn't done great for them. Still, the uncertainty and possibility of Van Gaal being in charge next year scares me to death.

I felt the same about Moyes and as much as i don't actually like Moyes i would have hated us to announce we are sacking him and announce his replacement but still expect him to stay in charge until the rest of the season. It's classless so it makes sense that City did exactly that.

Would you appreciate your employers doing that to you, because i know i wouldn't.

Plus read between the lines here mate, many reliable Journos are reporting that Van Gaal is a goner. I'd say it's 95% certain there will be a new man in charge next year, and thats more than you can say for two years ago when it looked like we were going to persevere with Moyes (thankfully logic prevailed).

Logic has far from prevailed this season on so many levels!

Don't hold your breath. I know I'm saving mine for far more useful purposes

Yeah but we did eventually sack Moyes 2 years ago so logic did prevail. This season is the same as back then, United as a club seem determined to always give a manager a chance to turn a season around. Moyes got that chance and now so has Van Gaal. Some might not like it but that's how it is, the time to replace Van Gaal was probably January but we didn't so after that there was no real point in sacking him before the end of the season.

Di Marzio has credibility with Italian players and managers (Darmian, Conte). There's nothing to suggest he knows what's going on with Mendes, Mourinho or United. We're outside of his sphere of proven sources.

Lots of panic going on here. Conte has been announced to replace a man who has made it clear himself he's departing at the end of the season. The Guardiola announcement was stupid in the extreme, they are in real danger of missing top 4 as a result.

Therefore I have no idea why anyone is expecting announcements when we have an incumbent manager who still has things to fight for. It would also make no sense for Mourinho to come in at such a late stage, so calm down people! Whatever happens will happen in May, not now!

True, though he has really been putting his neck out on Mourinho to United.

If he gets it wrong it will make him look like a complete fool and his credibility will take a big hit. Why would he do that to himself unless he was confident that it is confirmed?

It could well be through Inter based sources who are interested in Mou he heard it.

Isn't it basically an open secret at this point? I didn't think anybody seriously doubted it anymore.

Agents of players he has already contacted / answers their contacts have received when asking Jose / Mendes about managing their club etc etc.
There are so many ways this can be leaked.

True. But I don't trust Di Marzio any more than I do anyone else. The Bedy Moratti is still the only compelling bit of evidence I've heard either way.

Hasn't done great for them? fecking understatement of the year!

It's not compelling evidence at all. The conversation could quite easily have gone like this :

Moratti - "Well Jose, what do you reckon about the Utd job?"

Mourinho - "Oh, I'm 100% sure I'm going to get the job"

Moratti to journalists "He'll be in Manchester next season"

Moratti's statement in itself means absolutely nothing, without knowing the content of the whole conversation.

Who knows what to believe but i think the 'el pais' story including clauses is quite plausible.

I'd have Mourinho in either way but I don't believe it's a certainty if LVG flukes top 4, it leaves the board with a tougher decision to make and i think this is the reason we still hear noises from the pro Giggs camp.

If it was such an open secret within the game the Giggs stories would stop.

Precisely. Nothing done and dusted yet it seems.

I too don't think it's a done deal that everyone is talking about.

But she got it first hand, unlike anyone else.

If it was to do with an other club, no one would be doubting it, but because we're shit scared of LVG sticking around for much longer its planting seeds of doubt that shouldn't exist.

Underneath everything I think it's almost as good as a done deal, ie everything agreed, handshakes made etc, but it has yet to be rubber stamped simply due to the fact that it can't be as LVG's official removal will not come until the summer.

HOWEVER that does then leave the door open for an unprofessional, fickle changing of mind, a mind change that given the footballing geniuses who run the club could easily be brought on by a "well at least we just about weren't as utterly unbelievably dogsh*t as **" 4th place finish and "well you can only beat what's in front of you" FA Cup win.

I too suspect it's not a done deal. I think the charm offensive on the Giggs appointment from so many big names from the past (names that it's hoped will persuade fans that Giggs would be a good appointment), is too much of a give away. If they thought Jose was a given they wouldn't be pushing Giggs so hard. There are a clearly some at the club who still think they can get the job for Giggsy and are determined to go all out for him. They wouldn't be doing that if they didn't think they had a chance because Jose was already a done deal.
