Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho become next United manager?

I am kind of put off by Jose tbh. We have a nice bunch of kids coming through, but have a gut feeling the bastard wont play them very often.

I think he will play them as long as they continue to play well.

I almost want us to appoint Giggs already so we can get his inevitable failure out of the way quickly and we no longer have this looming over us. Didn't Fergie always say there's no room for sentimentality at United? This whole scenario is utter insanity as far as I'm concerned. Even moreso post-Neville Valencia.

If it was to do with an other club, no one would be doubting it, but because we're shit scared of LVG sticking around for much longer its planting seeds of doubt that shouldn't exist.

This. Exactly.

Don't understand how you guys keep posting in this thread. Same shit regurgitated. This is like how we could feel Pep to City would happen. Mou will come here fosho.

Either way ,,Mourinho comes to United or not.The premier league had just got so hard to win, with Pep, Conte, Klopp , Poch, Wenger and Add Mourinho to the Mix. That's discounting Leicester's freak season. Whoever wins it is going to do it the hard way.

Underneath everything I think it's almost as good as a done deal, ie everything agreed, handshakes made etc, but it has yet to be rubber stamped simply due to the fact that it can't be as LVG's official removal will not come until the summer.

I agree with you. LVG almost certainly has a 'you're fired' clause if he doesn't make top 4. It would be constructive dismissal to make any kind of announcement, no matter how opaque, until then. Of course they could fire him earlier but that would cost millions.

But the decision to get rid seems certain to have been made. What the situation produces is a window of opportunity where SAF's party can lobby for Giggs or tell the press that a DoF is in the wings or make stuff up just to annoy Jose Mourinho. JM may get so riled by this that he fecks off somewhere else, which would please me as he is indeed a massive twat. But it's surely more likely that he's been tipped the wink by Woodie and co and these manuevres will come to nothing.

Aye. When is the last time there was a crop of world class managers in charge of the top sides in one league?

SSN in Italy saying it's done, probably same rehashed story though.

2004
Mourinho
Wenger: when he was still decent
Fergie
Benitez: when he wasn't a joke

I think SAF should come back next season to show all these supposed world class coaches that he can beat them all!

Will of course never happen but I'd love it!

Mourinho would be under much less pressure at United. He'll be given time to build in a way that wasn't afforded to him at his previous appointments. He has the kind of ego that won't stand for people criticising his poor record with young players. If he were to come to United, I'd fancy him to turn the tables and make youth promotion a priority. He's a clever guy, so there's no way he hasn't learnt from his past mistakes.

Creating a team with a spine from the academy is the last thing he's yet to achieve. Doing it at United will make him a God. If he managed that he'd walk around for the rest of his life with a permanent erection.

I just came to remind everyone that mourinho is a massive twat.

So much so that Guardiola still suffers night terrors where Mourinho is sitting on his chest wearing a smug grin and nothing else.

But she got it first hand, unlike anyone else.
You're missing the point, we don't know the content of the whole conversation. Mourinho could have been simply telling her he's confident of getting the Utd job, although there's yet been no contact whatsoever from Utd.

Her statement in itself means absolutely nothing.

The leading Dutch newspaper (not terribly reliable, but moreso than those in England usually) reports that Van Gaal has been promised a warchest of 100 million for the third season to be used for attacking talent, with Lukaku the main target estimated at 70 million.

Won't get us far in this day and age...

 Spending 70% of your "warchest" on Lukaku.

Don't think there's dithering , just that there is a reason why we can't announce it yet. If LVG is still here next season then I'll agree
Well Chelsea sacked their manager a long time ago and their season is already a write-off, so no need to delay from their side. City thought they'd show the world who was boss by announcing Guardiola in January, because their incumbent manager was apparently happy with the situation, and look how that has turned out.

If United have appointed Mourinho, they're justified in waiting IMO. In fact it's the most sensible strategy.

I could be entirely wrong, but isn't the most logical explanation for the lack of activity that:

We may have agreed a deal with Mourinho when we looked like we wouldn't finish in the top 4. For whatever reason he was to take over at the end of the season and not immediately. It then became apparent, mostly through our rivals being rubbish, that we weren't out of it yet. Obviously, in those circumstances it makes no sense to destabilise the side by announcing a new manager mid-season. The renewed hope probably gave Woody et al pause for thought and, in an ideal world, they'd prefer to stick with the devil they know, albeit if he missed out on the CL then they might be forced to bin him. So now it's a case of either seeing whether LVG can keep his job by scraping into the CL, see out his deal and potentially hand over the reins to Giggs or whether we'll take up the 'agreement' we have with Mourinho. Woodward and the rest would prefer the former, I'm sure, as it allows them to claim that the succession plan they devised has been a success.

I can't see anything happening until CL is decided one way or the other. If we qualify I imagine we'll write off the media coverage of the last few months as fabricated nonsense.

You could be entirely wrong but I think you're probably entirely right.

In which case it's a highly depressing scenario. I can't fathom how the club could be thick enough to keep LvG purely because he stumbles into top four (again) despite a truly shocking season.

You'd better explain that one.
Perreira and Januzaj who are as close as we have on the books to what we need right now, creatively, having the kitchen sink thrown at them over something that should have been sorted a long time ago. If we are to spend £100m pounds only, supposing this story is true, and that a large chunk of it goes towards Lukaku common sense dictates that we have to utilize those two more given that we also need a central defender.

His dicking around of Herrera at the start of the season, James Wilson going on loan was a bit stupid as well.

The club need to get with the times - 100m (pounds or euros) is not a "warchest" in today's climate - it is one decent attacking player

Or, we've got an agreement with Mourinho who is contractually bound until the end of the season and so can't take over before then.

If that agreement is in place and done then there's no more to do.

LVG and the squad aren't being told so as to prevent a City style collapse and there's no sense destabilising everything when nothing can change this season anyway.

I can already imagine LvG sitting with a warchest, into which 100M coins of 1 quid each are put. :)
