As our recent past experience in the transfer market I can see Woody making a pig's ear of the Mourinho appointment!!

Agreed. I've love it if we could remain successful and relevant whilst keeping great servants of the club at the helm but we can't keep them there if they're holding us back.

I was anti Jose coming in initially but our decline is picking up pace and anyone who stands in the way of halting that decline and making progress, unwittingly or not, needs moving aside.

All organisations have to change over time or they become increasingly less relevant and effective. Let's hope the Glazers realise that if they want to continue to milk this cash cow some changes are due and due now.

That has been one of the most frustrating things for me.. the Glazers and how long they all come to decisions. Like I just don't understand how a business savvy ruler would be fine with us dropping out of the CL or so content with seeing our name be besmirched like it is right now.. like even if we are a club motivated by the bottom line surely that would make us more ruthless in our decision making. It just is mind boggling.

The only positive is that Mourinho covets the job like no other and would be prepared to overlook any shortcomings in the approach. Whereas players needed convincing. . he doesn't. His desire to work here is pretty much Woodward proof unless of course someone else is selected.

We're making more money than ever. For all we know they've got a short term exit strategy to extract as much cash as they can at the expense of actual on the field success?

Who knows but if they're planning on sticking around they'll want us winning things.

We should seriously consider getting rid of Woodward if he doesnt get Mourinho in the summer. The man is literally begging for the job. We are talking about one of the very best managers in the world for the last 10 years.

Its about time we had a real leader who actually is proven in the Premier league. Twice.

If you want to extract cash, you still can but it doesn't necessarily mean you have to run the club into the ground by doing so. We've seen plenty of money thrown around by them but just really bizarre decision making.

We're also spending unprecedented amounts of money, and doesn't look like that is going to stop soon either.

I wonder who Mourinho will sign? He always has his own players in mind to suit his style and once he's appointed he'll pretty much have as much money as he wants.

Feck at this point I'd take jt on a free. Anything is better than having Daley Blind play out of position, or waiting for Phil Jones to get healthy.

Hopefully he goes in for Stones and builds from the back. Which was how this team should have been built from the start. Moyes and LVG failed to recognise this and are now suffering as a result.

This is awful. Wonder what David Gill would have done. As of now I actually hate Woodward and LvG. Giggs I want nowhere near our club for years as well.

Probably what Sir Alex wants? David Gill allegedly wanted Mourinho after SAF - but we got Moyes. So safe to say he didn't make a great effort to push through his arguments for a proven winner...

I'm not a Mourinho fan, but you have to like a man that wants to be here that much. I'm deluding myself into thinking he's going to play attacking football and use youth, right?

Getting a horrible flash back now to the summer of 2013 when I was absolutely convinced we were going to get Mourinho as was everyone else.

Then slowly, but ever so surely, The Horror of what was about to actually happen became more and more apparent.

Giggs, SAF and SBC it's like some sort of mafia brotherhood. SAF has to put the club welfare first and not his legacy and SBC needs to stop living in the past. I feel bad saying that, but it's true.

The crowd at the Arsenal game need to sing for Jose all through the game. Leave the board in no doubt who they want and Giggs as well.

Yes I agree, but unfortunately we can't do anything about it. And yes, I feel bad about thinking this too - but the club's welfare is the most important thing. It's disappointing as well when you think SAF always said no one is bigger than the club - and yet, he doesn't seem to think it applies to him? I dunno, that's the impression I get (hope I'm wrong).

May be the only way. Even though I'm not keen on it but times are desperate:lol:

LVG is gone no matter what - so maybe the crowd needs to use their energy to make it clear they do not want Giggs and/or they only want Mourinho.

Really? I always knew we were getting Moyes that summer.

What shred of actual evidence do you have that this is the case?
I'm not the first one to think this. Why are the club appointing lame duck managers all the time. SAF and SBC will have more influence than you can imagine as the actual board has no football knowledge. I am hoping Ed can stand up to all the outside influences. SAF was a great manager, but after Moyes I don't trust his judgement regarding managers. He got too sentimental in his old age. Kept Giggs and Scholes too long rather than looking to replace them. We still won, but it was not down to them. They just ended up like club mascots that actually played. Now others are having to rebuild this club. The whole club is obsessed with looking backwards, for all this so called youth legacy, it should be looking forward, not fawning over ex players all the time. Yes they are legends, but it's every day. There are plenty of players out there who could be the new legends. It's like one big Old Boys Club. Do like baseball and have an Old Timers Day and invite players back, the present and future is what matters.

Keep watching the DVDs of past glories, because if we don't move on there won't be any worth watching in the future.

How do you know it's not Woodward who wants Giggs?

Regardless of who is posting stories about Giggs is taking over, surely if he was, he'd be in the job now?

Surely the only reason LvG hasn't been sacked is because they have no other option at the moment (Giggs not prepared to be interim and maybe Jose has some clause with Chelsea this season)

Breaking News: Manchester United have a plan

How do you know it's not Woodward who wants Giggs?
If he does he need sacking as he is deliberately trying to run the club into the ground. Pep would grind Giggs underfoot. We need a manager who can stand toe to toe with him. Giggs admitted he couldn't sleep last time he did it for 4 games. Also Jose will have the pulling power with players. Players of any calibre will not sign for United and Giggs until he has proven himself, but without top calibre players we will be midtable and they won't sign anyway.

This.....

I think she was joking/being a bit mischievous tbh.
Yep apparently just there for dessert.
She nudged Jose with a 'Manchester eh eh?' type mischievous quip.
Jose just smiled back or something.
And that = Jose going to Manchester!

I'm surprised some people are still doubting that Mourinho will be manager next season. I personally would prefer someone like Hughes taking over, but the prospect of Mourinho is intriguing, and I've warmed to the idea over the last 3 months. There's a strong probability that his arrogance will rub off on the players to give them belief, which should lead to some success short term. It'll definitely be a ride with him in charge, more exciting than what we have right now.

Stop making me believe. I want to believe.....

Well ma ehhh said before she dropped the Mourinho to Manchester bomb is a sign of resignation. The way she spoke about him were the ones used towards a friend and a person she admires very much

Not Hughes, he would bloody well keep Giggs on. Then see how long it take for things to go south. I wouldn't trust Giggs as far as I could throw him, not anymore.

I don't know what you're basing this on. Giggs maybe as unsuccessful as Paddy Crerand, Bryan Robson, and Bobby Charlton at management, but until he's given it a go, even he doesn't know.
There is a chance he'll be a great manager. It's not a matter whether we trust Giggs, it's whether he trusts himself, and if the players trust him.

Yeah, he got the job a day after Fergie's retirement announcement in May... Hours after the announcement it was already clear it's not Mourinho.

Yeah fair enough, those 24 hours felt like an entire transfer window of speculation though. I remember I was travelling down to a meeting in London and just constantly checking Twitter etc. on the train down from Manchester for updates, getting more and more excited about Mourinho.

By the time I was on the train from Kings Cross to Borehamwood, The Fear was beginning to kick in.

After I got out of the meeting that afternoon, the grim reality of Moyes was beckoning, and the process of convincing myself he was the better choice anyway began...
