Bayern Munich

I just don't see how we could have been confident about beating Dortmund. They would've trampled all over us for the majority of the game in a far worse fashion than Madrid did.

2/3 times out of 10 we'd beat them, I reckon. It'd take either a remarkable defensive performance or a lot of luck.

I didn't say we easily 'would' have beaten Dortmund, I said easily 'could' have been in the final. There's a world of difference between could and would.

Maybe it was a bad choice of word, i.e. easily, on my part as I just meant to say that we could've conceivably reached the final had we beaten Madrid.

I really don't think it's arrogant to suggest that we could have beaten Dortmund though, I'll happily admit they could have beaten us as well.

Maybe we could have but there's no way of really knowing. Such is the game of football. Onto next season I say.

It's not downplaying their achievements though is it, they're just saying that we could match them with the right investment. Or are we not allowed to be positive about United on this forum?

What's the point? Who can't match Bayern with the right investment? Or is there a rule for some teams that no matter how well they invest and no matter what they do they simply can't match Bayern? It just seems rather pointless. It's obvious that given our squad, if we sign a Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, we can match anyone.

We could easily have been in that final had certain decisions gone for us against Madrid and we won the league at a canter so it's not exactly that much of a stretch to dare to suggest we could match them next season.

We could have been in the final, or we might have gotten eliminated along the way anyway. None of us really know what would have happened.

We can match them next season but we'd have to improve. Then again, same goes for Madrid, Barca, Dortmund, Chelsea, City etc. It's not the opinion that we aren't far off that's odd, it's the need to see these teams play for an hour and come to knee jerk conclusions that they "aren't all that after all" and needing to claim that "we'd take them" at every opportunity, as if borne out of insecurity and subsequent need for self assurance. I'm not blaming individuals. It's a trend I've seen.

Congratulations to Bayern for being the first German team to do the triple.

I'm especially glad for Jupp Heynckes who is just an amazing manager and person and fully deserves all the success he is having this season.

Rummenigge confirmed it on German TV. 'Media' being Bild. The leaks are supposedly about what Guardiola does and says to the team and tactics. Guardiola says that if he finds who the mole is, he wants that player/staff completely out of Bayern. The rumour is that it's Lahm because he has close ties with Bild.

Plot twist: Guardiola is the mole

You have to hand it to the Germans.....If someone comes up with a formula that is better than what they have got then you can be sure that they will be the first to study it and implement it into their own methods........Getting Guardiola was simply a master stroke for them and this happened because they are always one stop ahead of the rest

It comes and goes in cycles, my friend.

"It does not matter who [the mole inside the squad leaking tactics to the press] is, heads will roll" - Guardiola

"I will throw [the mole] out. He will not play under me again" - Guardiola

I don't see Lahm being the type to do that.

What can he be leaking really though? "Pep's going to set up to try and keep the ball all game and score from possession play and careful build up. You heard it here first. Thank me later."

Obviously the principle is enough to sack whoever it is but I can't imagine it harming Bayern too much.

Did you watch the game against Dortmund? We played Martinez as an AM and used long balls to him to get through Dortmund's pressing (almost Fellaini/Moyes style ;) ) and Bild wrote we're going to do that before the game. I knew a lot of people who expected something similar, because Guardiola really used a lot of different styles at Bayern so far, so Bild might have just guessed right, but there are more questionable things that happened in the past few weeks, so it's likely to be true.

Lahm is the obvious choice for haters, because of his connections with them, but I doubt he's stupid enough to do that. I also wouldn't rule out that one of the players just talked to his girlfriend, family or agent and then one of them leaked it, then it wouldn't be that bad, imo, but it needs to be sorted out. The funny thing is, Bild were also the first to run with the story that there is a mole, which of course puts now even more pressure on their 'confidential informant'. The whole newspaper is a disgrace and I always hated how close Bayern worked with them for decades now.

Fair enough, that is fishy. I can't see Lahm being the one either. Do you have any ideas, is it even likely to be a player? Could be the kit man...

Really no idea. Rummenigge said yesterday, that they believe to know who he is and that he should stop now or he's in trouble, but I doubt Guardiola will leave it at that. I'm sure he wants the player gone, he always talks about trust between him and the players and he really dislikes the media, so I'm sure something will happen very soon. I also don't know who's present besides the players and the coaching staff at those team meetings in which Guardiola presents his tactics and the formation.

It seems like such a pointless, destructive thing to do. I doubt anyone will be paying him enough to make it worth it in that sense, relative to how much he'll be on at Bayern.

Might not even be a player. Like you said, it's not worth it for a player, but for a staff member? The money would be a lot for them.

Yeh that's what I was thinking but like Balu said who'd be privy to all this info if not a player?

Could be Fight Club eqsue situation for Guardiola maybe.

That's intense.

Don't want him here leaking all Moyes' tactics. If teams have info like that we'll end up getting outplayed by the likes of Cardiff.

There are rumours that he's trying to do it for positive press, which really could help his career and his standing in public, which could translate to way better sponsoring deals and a lot of money. But it's all speculation and I don't think any of our players was treated clearly over the top positive by Bild. They hate some of our players and treated Schweinsteiger and Robben incredibly harsh in the past, but overall there's really nothing I noticed, that would make sense. I basically never read Bild, so I'm not the best person to judge all of it though. I've also read some rumours in German football boards about the reporter blackmailing the player for being gay and not making it public. I doubt there's any truth to that, but you never know. Maybe there'll be a crazy twist soon, maybe we just sell one of our best players in the winter for cheap, maybe it's just a crazy campaign by Bild, wouldn't rule it out that they fabricated it all to get back at Guardiola for cutting connections between the club and the media. It really looks like, the club changed his policy in regards to informations this summer.

It really would be boring if we would get through a successful season without completely unnecessary massive drama *sigh*.

The gay player in question is supposedly Lahm. Apparently that's an open secret in the media.

If that's the situation surely he could just deny it if it came out and mark it down to spiteful press making shit up?

Please be Schweini, please sell him to us
Highly unlikely, doubt there's a German player with less connections to Bild. He once called a SportBild reporter at a press conference an asshole and left while saying he won't answer any more stupid questions be that idiot . Pretty sure he doesn't have any connections to all the newspapers from that publishing house. He was completely right btw, the journalist wrote an incredibly stupid and insulting article about him after Schweinsteiger continued to refuse to give interviews to him and the newspaper and the article was clearly some sort of revenge. I'd love it if more players would act that way.

I highly doubt that Lahm is gay. Marriage and children probably aren't proof that it's not true, but it makes it very unlikely, imo. I really don't want to discuss it, because the whole blackmail story is probably bullshit anyway, just wanted to say what kind of different theories are going around in Germany right now. Probably shouldn't even have mentioned that theory.

Some hint towards it being a players's agent. Makes sense as those tend to be well connected to the boulevard media.

Sad enough that in todays society some people still have to keep their sexual orientation a secret.

Come on, getting married and having children to keep his private gay stuff from public. That's a bit counter productive, isn't it?

Are those real quotes? He sounds like Patrice Evra at the 2010 World Cup!

Brilliant news. Hopefully Kroos and Boateng will follow soon.
