Bayern Munich

No way, no. The euphoria before the game, the atmosphere when we scored and how it all turned into a nightmare after it, countless grown men with tears in their eyes walking down the streets afterwards quietly, thousands of people and not one spoke a word. It was all so wrong, it really should have been one of the greatest football parties ever, it felt like there can't be anything better than winning that trophy in your own stadium and celebrating with all the fans at home in your own city. There's no revenge for it, it's lost and we can't get it back.

Of course, there would be a bit of satisfaction, if we beat Chelsea in a CL final now, but it can't make up for the final at home. We fecked it up, nothing can change anything about that feeling :(
I agree with this sentiment, having seen it. The crowd just dispersed out silently in munich, and it was such a silent night in the end and in such contrast to the atmosphere before. A night worthy of a great party on the streets, oh i wished.

I've heard very good things about him and know that he is very highly rated. For someone who is 1.90m he is surprisingly quick as well and is very good at reading the game.

I think he has made a tremendous improvement this year, eliminating some of his weaknesses from last season. He can also play at left-back as he spend most of last season there, always good to have more options. What's most impressive is how good he is with the ball and his ability to link-up play.

He sounds like great option for us. We could definitely use a more pacey defender. Javi and Holger will continue to struggle in this system, although if we get another CB that might mean Javi will go back to playing in midfield (I sure hope it does).

Btw, I keep wondering what after Pep from Bayern fans perspective? Pep will have infused his philosophy in his time there. Do you honestly think, you would continue it?

In general there has never been one particular 'Bayern playing stile' over the last 40 years. Emphasis on possession started only 5 years ago when Luis van Gaal took over, followed by a more conservative approach by Heynckes and renaissance of total football under Guardiola. Who's to say we won't get a more conservative coach post Guardiola? Thomas Tuchel is an interesting coach whom many experts already compare to Jupp Heynckes in terms of tactical versatility and playing stile.

So the general direction will be possession based post Guardiola, no question about it, but it won't be as dogmatic as in Barcelona where tiki-taka was exercised like an obsession. The only obsession at Bayern München is winning, so whatever wins the most shiny silverware will be popular among the board. Preferably in an offensive and attractive manor because that suits our personnel the most, but it's not written in stone.

I really hope that Guardiola is trying to lull Real into thinking we really are that bad and tactically inept, because lets face it: Pep's defensive setup in the last few games, especially against Dortmund, was borderline retarded and suicidal. If we play like this against Real, Bale and Cristiano will have a blast running past our exposed CBs near the middle of the pitch with no fullbacks to be seen anywhere.

It's the worst defensive strategy imaginable against Real with our material...

The problem not really was the setup but the players. Some should really look how we played last year after we won the Bundesliga. Schweinsteiger and Lahm - to just name 2 - did not even play one of the four Bundesliga matches after Juve. Others missed out on two and only in bits were playing the other 2 matches.

Last year we had a more defined B-team with van Buyten, Rafinha, Gustavo, Tymoschchuk, Contento, Shaqiri, Pizarro and Gomez - until Kroos' injury even with Robben. They knew that they would not start the big matches if their was no injuries or suspensions. And it was them with addition to the A-team-players that had only bit-part-roles in this matches that really rocked in the matches when the Bundesliga was already over.

If the others would have played it would have looked just the same like it does right now. Nobody of them goes 100 per cent in this matches - and with this system that is just not enough if you want to win comfortably - especially against a team like Dortmund...

That B-team like this does not exist anymore. Rafinha is part of the expanded A-team, Gustavo, Tymo and Gomez gone, Shaqiri and Contento injured - and Götze is part of the expanded A-team and the young ones like Höjbjerg can be an addition but for sure cannot carry a team.

The key to the Real match might be less the defensive midfield but the pressing from players like Mandzukic and Müller to stop the supply.

Pep said in today's presser that he doesn't want to change the high defending approach for the game in Madrid. If that's true, we might be well and truly fecked because that system is bollocks... I just don't get it.

No matter how well the pressing works up front with Müller and Mandzu, one rogue long ball will see Ronaldo and/or Bale sprinting past our CBs with ease with no fullbacks in sight.

He's won 5 and drew 2 in his 7 games at the Bernabéu, all while playing a high line...

And United has never lost against Everton twice in one EPL-season until this year... thing's and teams change and I just can't see the approach Pep's been trying for the last couple of games working against a team like Real, especially with an "immobile" midfield of Kroos and Schweinsteiger with no real destroyer as DM. It was incredibly easy for Dortmund (and even Braunschweig at times) to get past us. If we don't up our game by a couple of levels, Real might overrun us.

Could well be naive to say the least, sometimes you have to look at what the opposition can do to you. Ronaldo might not be playing but Bale and possibly Di Maria could break those lines with their electric pace and be running clean through on goal within a few seconds.

Exactly. And Ronaldo seems to be fit in time, so they got 3 players that can run rings around our CBs easily. I don't like it one bit.

I haven't seen any of Bayern's recent domestic games so I'll bow to your knowledge there, and the teams change part is fair too. Don't think it's right to say to say a high defensive line can't work against Real Madrid though. Their biggest strength is obviously on the counter but I don't think they'll overrun you. Guessing Pep's plan will be the same as most games against them - to dominate possession as a defensive mechanism as much as ...if they can't get the ball they won't have many opportunities to counter. You have to remember that as bad as you might have been defensively recently, Real Madrid have hardly been solid. Xabi Alonso struggled against Dortmund so I could see Pep targeting him - he's a superb player still but he does have some off days.

It's a tough game to call, but I don't expect either side to have the tie anywhere wrapped up after the first leg.

There's a huge difference between the bullshit tactics against Dortmund and a 'normal' 4-3-3 highline defense. I'm only worried about the tactics if Neuer isn't 100% fit and Raeder starts in goal, then a high line would be mental.

Sitting deep and inviting pressure can be just as problemtic, it doesn't really suit our team and it will give Ronaldo and Bale more chances on the ball. We can win and loose the game either way, imo.

Don't even dare put those thoughts in to my head! From what I've seen he has been training with the squad so he should start!

And they are not Danny Welbeck. Bale or Ronaldo clean through on goal, they won't be missing it. Can still see Bayern scoring, too much quality in the side not to. I just think this is Real's year and their time to win it. There's also that thing about nobody has ever retained the CL, there's got to be something in that psychologically. I reckon it'll be 2-1 to Real and all to play for going to Munich. Maybe pens again to settle this tie.

news from the general assembly:
1) Karl Hopfner is new president
2) Manuel Neuer signed a contract extension til 2019
3) Rumenigge/Hopfner praising Guardiola
4) bayern will have a new record turnover and profit
5) Rumenigge also said that the punishment for clubs, that breach FFP are significant, but he isnt allowed to give details.
6) free beer for everyone

Amongst all the crap that's been spouted today, Neuer extending is great news.

The free beer part as well!

Apparently Bayern are after Ezequiel Garay now?
Those are the rumours. Rumoured price is 15m euros, which admittedly is not a lot. Especially when you consider how much Luiz went for and how much Roma want for Benatia. Don't know much about Garay though so I really don't know what to think of that rumour.

Lewandowski, Alonso, Benatia, Bernat and Rodes for them so far, they have had a brilliant window, much better than ours as it stands. Not to mention they've picked these players up for peanuts! Apparently they got some great young players coming through as well.

My favourites for the CL as well, the players have had a year to get used to Pep now.
