I'm not one of these that have been completely swept away by him in the middle. I thought he was an average, workmanlike wide man and I think he's adapted well in the middle but isn't quite the world beater this thread makes him sound like.

Exactly, I agree. He's basically the kraut James Milner, except a bit better.

Well if thats how you feel I think you're actually underrating his ability. Plus a bit better than James Milner is a really good player!

I was not convinced about him a few seasons back, but after watching him in the last world cup in central midfield, I'm convinced he's the type of midfielder we need. He's strong, creative and able to control the midfield, clearly the type of player we are lacking now when scholes does not play.

I agree... His vision and passing abilities seems clearly better than that of James Milner. He creates far more than Milner, but in Milner's defense, Schweinstenger plays in Germany, and Milner plays in the #1 league in the world.

Schweinsteiger: Maybe United Will Swap Me For Rooney

"For me, in England the fans are better. When the team give their best, they are not booing. It's more like they are fans more with the heart.

He's never heard of Liverpool fans has he?

And a very obvious dig at the Munich fans who booed him there. Would love him at United. Unlikely to happen though.

he said that quote last year

As much I would love to Schweinsteiger at United, I just can't see him here. I m sure he is just going to sign a contract extension at Bayern and he is talking about moving to England just to get a pay rise and better wages at Bayern.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has cast further doubt on his future at Bayern Munich.

Having already openly touted himself to Chelsea and Manchester United this week, Schweini has decided to put off any meetings with Bayern over new contract talks.

BILD says Schweinsteiger, whose current deal expires in 2012, sees no urgency in holding contract talks and will now wait until the New Year.

The 26-year-old is desperate to win the Champions League with Bayern and would look at "developments" in the coming months, including January reinforcements, to see if the club's ambitions match his own before making a decision on whether to extend his contract.

Schwiensteiger doing a Rooney?

Great player, but I can't see where he'd fit in here. He's not really the kind of player we're after, and whether Fergie would want him anyway is pretty doubtful in my eyes.

I doubt it. I highly suspect with in the next 2 year he will be in Spain or England.

Really? Did you watch any of the WC? He made Englands midfield look like a pub team, you make room for players like him. Goal scoring midfielder we're CRYING out for one.

Most teams could have made Englands midfield look like a pub team, but that's besides the point. He strikes me as just a better version of Fletcher, which isn't the priority atm.

Na, would compliment Fletcher brilliantly in a midfield two imo and Fletcher/Carrick/Scholes in a three. Would be a very good signing.

Get on youtube and watch footage of Bayern for the past few seasons.

And also its a bit weird you would turn down a better version of our best midfielder?

Fair enough, I think they would be too similar though.

I just said it's not our priority, plus I'd be gutted if we didn't show any loyalty and dropped Fletch. I just think we need someone to play infront of Fletcher spraying balls around the park, not another box-to-box.

At the World Cup didn't you think that he was the one spraying the balls around, with Khedira alongside him doing most of the harrying and box-to-box running?

The only player who made more passes than Schweinsteiger was Xavi, and he made 200 more passes than Khedira. He made 109 long passes compared to Khedira's 38, and completed the highest amount of long passes. Despite making over 200 more passes than Khedira, he made just 9 more short passes...should indicate their roles in the team no?

How do you watch football? Do you think it's Van Bommel's job to keep the ball flowing? Of course that's his job. He's a great passer, not to mention an excellent shot. Got more power on him then any of our players. Not to mention total composure.

He's pretty much the better version of Carrick if you want to dumb it down. And then a way better version. He'd be a brilliant addition. Very few MC choices better than him if any.

He is a superb player. He's strong, he gets about the pitch, passes the ball very well and has flair to boot. We could do with a playmaker but this guy is very very good. Any team would like him in their side.

Don't think we will do another deal with Bayern after the Hargreaves thing when it all got sour. But then they mugged us a bloody cool 18 million pounds.

If thats what they want for Schweinsteiger... snapped their hands off.

Schweinsteiger also stated that no discussions about an extension will take place before the end of Bayern's pre-season preparation in Qatar (January 2nd - 9th 2011).

To be honest, I'm strangely optimistic about him moving to us - he's 26 years old and this might be the right time - and his last opportunity - to move to a big club abroad. Schweinsteiger has always been a fan of English football and his playing style fits the Premier League perfectly.

Chelsea will be our biggest rivals for his signature, in my opinion.

Chelsea are heavily stocked in midfield though. Their biggest priorities in signings will lie in defense and attack, where they are ageing and short of quality backup.

With Lampard, Mikel, Essien and Ramiers on their books we should be in good shape to offer him greater 1st team clarity. The fact that Chelsea don't spend big on wages anymore is also a nice well added bonus.

I agree. Fingers crossed he becomes the first German star to play for United.

There was a feature in the Sunday Times about German football in general and an interview with Bastian S.

Saying what a well run club Bayern are and that they are able to pay wages on a par with Shitty.

Not only would we have to pay big money to sign him, we'd might have to pay him similar money to Rooney as well.

It's true the financial state of Germany is no joke read it a couple times and they were talking about it last night on Sky Sports

The transfer fee depends on when we get for him.
If we go for him in the summer, he is definitely not going to cost a lot of money because he will have less than a year on his current contract. If he decides to leave, it is advisable for Bayern to sell him for something rather than to let him leave on a free.
If we go for him in January, he will definitely cost a lot of money, regardless of his contract situation.
If he signs a new contract at Bayern, he will definitely cost a hella out more than the other two scenarios.

The wages depends on the player and their bloody agents. He is getting a lot of money at Bayern right now and it is only normal for him to get around the same amount IF he comes here.

I m surprised about their financial superiority given the fact that there is no or almost no corruption in Germany unlike Spain or Italy.

Really? You do know that we need a player to atleast try and replace Scholes right? I don't think he'll be perfect to replace Scholes but I think he will do a damn good job of it.

Franck Ribery has urged Bastian Schweinsteiger to commit his future to Bayern Munich amid interest from abroad.

Schweinsteiger is out of contract in 2012 and Bayern are hoping to persuade him to sign an extension, but the Germany midfielder warned during the summer that he was "not married" to the club and could be tempted by a move abroad.

"I hope he can sign up until 2015, as I did," Ribery told Bild. "I have a great relationship with him. He has developed into a world-class player.

"Players like him are extremely important to further progress in European club competitions. If he asks me, I'll immediately say, 'Stay with Bayern, Basti!'"

Schweinsteiger recently expressed an interest in moving to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Chelsea reported to be among the interested clubs.

"I love the kind of speed of the English game but I don't know what will happen with me," Schweinsteiger said in the Sunday Times. "I have a contract until 2012 and we'll see.

"What I love is the atmosphere in English stadiums. When we played last year in Manchester, it was fantastic. My brother is a big fan of Man Utd and he always says, 'Go to Man Utd, go to Man Utd.' I say, 'I can't, I can't'.

"For me, in England the fans are better. When the team give their best, they are not booing. It's more like they are fans more with the heart."

He added: "I watch the English games on TV and I like the Chelsea style at the moment. They're very strong."

Scored with a back-heel - but missed a penalty as well though in Bayern's 3-3-draw away to Mönchengladbach.

He has also said a few days ago, that Philipp Lahm's contract extension (until 2016) won't affect his decision to either extend or move.

That is a quality finish from him. Louis Van Gaal might get fired soon though. Can't wait for that day!
