Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has made a not-so-subtle hint that Bastian Schweinsteiger could be on his way out of Bavaria if a contract extension is not agreed upon in the near future. In recent weeks, many reports have emerged linking the 26-year-old midfielder to moves abroad. Most recently, Inter were said to be mulling over a bid of €30 million.
"I hope that Bastian Schweinsteiger extends his contract as I've extended mine," the coach said according to SPOX. "Because I think that otherwise, he should be sold. I think that Bayern is a business. If it is true that €30m has been bid for him, then one cannot turn down this kind of money."
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had previously labelled Schweinsteiger as one of Bayern's "crown jewels", stating that he will never be sold. Van Gaal objected to the club CEO's statements.
"I would do it differently, and my clubs have always done what I said. My teams have earned lots of money."
Over the past year, Schweinsteiger has emerged as one of the greatest central midfielders in world football. His strong performances in the Champions League and World Cup have led to interest from a number of clubs, including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter. His current contract is set to expire in 2012.
The problem is Real want him too and Germans love to play for Real Madrid. From Goal.com but has quotes. My spidey-sense is tingling on this one

Agent's spin. All to familiar scenario
Expect a pay hike and he stays

It would need a lot for him to leave his home club. I personally doubt it and I am sure he will soon sign a new contract
After the likes of Bebe, it's about time we sign a big name.
Schweinsteiger at 14 letters is a very big name.
Schweiny would be our number 7.
Schweiny? Wouldn't that mean piggy?
Not the best nickname methinks.
If he signed and would get a 2 digit number that will cost a fortune to print. :P
Someone should inform the Glazers that shirt printing is where the real money is.
Schweinsteiger would be a great start...
Thank god we'll never sign Jo then

Prepare yourselves for an influx of Japanese players - almost all the Japanese people I know have at least 8 or 9 letter last names.
We'll never sign Kaka once the Glazers catch onto the shirt printing thing, unless they get to charge extra for that "á".
Where is Venegoor of Hasselink playing nowadays?
we could also tell the portughese and brazilian players in our squad to put their full name on the shirt....
Rapid Vienna, but it helps if people actually want to buy shirts with the name on the back.
I fully expect him to stay at Bayern but he's 1 of a few players I would genuinely love to see at United.
Ulrich Stielike, Gunter Netzer, Paul Breitner, Boddo Illgner, Christophe Metzelder, Bernd Schuster, Ozil, KhedeiraHe'd be a great buy for us, he has the all round game to fit in at United and thrive in the Prem.
How many Germans have played for Real?
I'm not at all convinced by him. Is he actually a winger or a central mid?
Would be an excellent signing. But its not often you see us bid for genuine established stars contracted to clubs the size of Bayern.
My gut feeling is he'll go to one of the Milan clubs, or possibly Juve

He's a centre mid with a top range of passing, can beat a man, can tackle, great engine, scores and creates and being German he's organized. What more can he do to convince you?
