Bastian Schweinsteiger

Would everyone be happy with us parting with £25m for a injury prone 30 year old?
Worked out alright with RvP?

Deeper problem we got is that there are a lack of quality, experienced midfielders out there, which is why alot of people are annoyed about Cesc going to Chelsea.

With Mata in front of them? I genuinely wouldn't know how to describe the level of improvement we'd see when compared to our current crop.
Herbert in that Independent article says that Van Gaal's staff have doubts about Mata, that he's too lightweight.

If be happy with no Carrick, he was awful last season. If we can get Bastian and another class CM I'd be pretty happy.
It's just that a week or so ago we were going to offer £10m-£12m now it's £25m. I suppose we're in the position were we need to deals like this to catch up.

Everyone's going to rip us off this Summer. No Champions League football and we're desperate for new talent. Was always going to happen.

So now we're labeling a player who's played more than 40 matches in most of his past 10 seasons injury prone? You only hear these things on internet forums. He's so injury prone he played in 36 games last season.

People being picky about Schweinsteiger? Fo' real? He's a world class MIDFIELDER, who has at least 3 years of top-level action in him. If he's available, it's a no-brainer.

Why do people care that much? The club can afford it. It's not like any of the £25m is payed by the supporters. If you're going to complain about that what about all the money servicing debt that is far higher than our transfer expenditure.

Strangely enough, I have a sneaky feeling van Gaal will favour Kagawa.

This will be a good signing for United.

You see, I told the muppets not to worry.

Are there people who don't want him?

Just really seems like the player that would never leave his club, but hey, I'd take him.
I think we all get caught up on transfer fees these days, but missing out on the CL cost us a fee like this, so him getting us back into that position on it's own is worth it.

The guy is about to turn 30, he doesn't rely on pace at all, so this guy can go for at least 2-3 years, if not 4, maybe even 5.
3 years service for 30m, 10m a season, has to be worth it when it's a player that good

We need a quick fix right now in the middle of the park and Schweinsteiger would prove to be just that. 25m is nothing for a player of his quality. Go go Woody!

I don't see this happening but Vidal definitely isn't happening, so his age is irrelevant.

Well we absolutely must sign a quality CM so who is happening?

Age is relevant as I don't see much value in spending 25m on a 30 year old who will need replaced in 2-3 years and that replacement will cost us a similar amount of not more. We should be going after someone like Koke who can play here for 10 years.

Can't see Bastian wanting to leave Munich and can't see Munich wanting to sell him. He played a hell of a lot of games last year for a guy who "can't pass the ball fast enough for Pep."

I'm expecting talks to drag on for weeks with endless haggling over the final price only for Juventus or PSG to enter into the scene at the last minute to casually sign him without any fuss

I would assume LVG has already spoken to Schweinsteiger and if he pushes for a move, and if Pep doesn't want him around then I can see him moving. £25m is more than a fair price, I reckon Bayern would be tempted by it.

He'll come if Bayern accept the bid, no doubt about that. Could see Pep being fine with him leaving. The board will be the big sticking point but I was under the impression that Pep was calling the shots at this stage. This deal would certainly tell us a lot about the balance of power at Bayern.

Wonder what our resident Bayern fans think?

I think this will be the key aspect. If both the club and the coach show a desire or willing for him to leave, there would be little point him staying at the club. Obviously, this might not be the case and the club could bat our bid away immediately.

It is stunning that we haven't bid for him yet......it's like woodward hasn't learned his lesson from last year...but i'm sure there's a reason behind the delay that none of us are aware of

Honestly why do people believe he would want to leave Bayern Munchen, his boyhood club, he loves that club and he is still and important player for them, why would he leave them for us ?

He is like Scholes was for United, like how Gerrard is for Liverpool, how Lampard was for Chelsea, how Xavi is for Barcelona, those players never leave those clubs unless the club wants them out or it is time to retire. We can bid £25m for him, Bayern will just tell us to feck off, Bastian will tell us he ain't interested.

I'd sooner see us sign Vidal or Pogba than I see us sign Schweinsteiger (and I think there is zero chance of us landing either of those 2).

Not sure people are getting how seismic selling Bastian would be at Munich. Most of their fans would be appalled. He's not just any old player. It would be a very bitter and long drawn out transfer and we can't afford to spend another summer trying to prise a player from his boyhood club.

I just can't see why this would be worth even pursuing.

That would be the main reason though. I think there's a growing feeling that it is the case as well.

Daley Blind is going to be our big central midfield signing of the summer and we're just going to have to get used to that

Based on what? When he was available last season he played? What evidence is there that Pep has suddenly decided he's not for him?

Yeah it would be like if Xavi was sold in 2010

Journalists suggesting it might be the case and the fact that we are linked with him? I'm not saying it's definitely the case, I'm just saying it would have to be for this transfer to happen.

They wouldn't exactly be insane to consider cashing in on an ageing player in an area they have several other top class options.

We be an amazing signing. He's only turning 30 in a few months so he's got 2-3 world class years left, and would instantly solve our main problem. He's a bit injury prone but he won't be overplayed at united, given that we won't have 2 games a week, so I think he'd be fine. A year ago he was considered by loads as the best midfielder in the world, or up there with the best, last season doesn't change that. He's a terrific player and would be up there with Yaya toure as the best midfielders in the league right away. Would be perfect for Van Gaal's system too.

Could you point me to some source that confirms this ?

The only things I have read is pure speculation, articles stating LVG is interested, we're linging up a bid, I've read nothing about Bayern wanting Bastian out, can't imagine it either.

Why would a 29 year old Paul Scholes leave Manchester United after just winning the double, to move to Bayern Munich who had just finished 7th in the league? Because that's basically the equivalent of Schweinsteiger coming to us. Doesn't really make sense.

So there's a chance?!? [insert Jim Carrey] Would put us right back at the top of the league, he's that good.. Him and Carrick just oozes class..

This whole thing hinges on Bayern (and more importantly Pep) being willing to sell. No player is going to stay with a club and manager that are happy to see them go.

At that point, why not United? Massive wages, massive club and a manager he already has an excellent relationship with.

Of course there is nothing to suggest that Pep will be willing to sell besides a few rumours during the season but maybe...
