Bastian Schweinsteiger

Sorry, but those teams do not compare to playing Madrid, away, and in the CL semis - no matter what Liverpool would have you think

Plus, I love Carrick as much as the next person, but how many of those were sideways or behind? Schweinsteiger was always trying to press forward.

Run, run away now, before they come...

Not really. Stats can be a misleading thing, but when it comes to midfielders, passes completed and their percentage is a *fairly* accurate thing. Just look how far ahead Xavi is, it's indictive of the fact that he's comfortably the worlds best midfielder.

One pass doesn't equal another IMO. It also depends on the style of the team, someone like Britton would never have a 93% pass completion at a stronger side.

He probably would actually....unless they used him incorrectly or something and made him a playmaker in CM based off those stats thinking he's a playmaker or something without truly understanding his game.

Is Schweinsteiger more of a holding midfielder now due to him getting on in years?

Pep played him as a holding midfielder when he returned from injury at the start of the season, usually with Kroos and Thiago in front of him - looked strongest when it was those three in midfield imo. But as the season progressed, Kroos started to drop deeper while Schweinsteiger inched forward. Like against us at OT, Schweinsteiger was the most advanced in a midfield three with Kroos and Lahm. For Germany, he plays in a double pivot with Kroos or Khedira.

Schweini is one person who can make that double pivot work with Carrick in a 4-2-3-1 which Moyes was trying all season long.

He would be a short term fix to our CM problems. I would rather get a long term solution but if no one else is available or wants to join United (I really cant believe thats the case!) then why not get a proven champion like Schweinsteiger

Hes a very reliable players. One of the best midfielders in the world and I think his injury problems are a bit exaggerated.

If only that was true :(

You think there's any chance he'll go Balu?

Particularly now that it seems Kroos will be staying for this season.

I think it's unlikely but not impossible. But I doubt we let him go if Kroos doesn't extend his contract. If Kroos commits longterm, then maybe. The club needs to be careful though. Schweinsteiger, Müller, Lahm are really important to the fans and they really should stay at the club throughout their careers in my opinion. They can't keep adding top players and believe that everything will be fine within the squad, it won't.

What is the extent of his injuries anyways? Is it something he could come back from 100% fit?
Yeah, but chances are that he's injured again with something different before he's back at 100% :(.

If you don't have a short time plan, there's no point planning long term. Schweinsteiger is a much better player than Carrick ever was. We have too many passengers in our squad. If there's even a chance of getting Bastian we should jump at the opportunity.

It really is a shame, his injuries are starting to catch up to him. I honestly don't see him being fit throughout the whole next season either. :(

As for him leaving, I too think it depends on Kroos. Hopefully the board aren't so dull as to let both of them leave as well as Muller. Keeping Lahm, Schweinsteiger and Muller is vital otherwise the fans won't be very happy regardless of who is brought in to replace them.

I had a talk with my agent and if you guys make a bid for me, I am willing to consider. Let's all hope.

Don't see that he'd join us, but I'd choose him over nearly any midfielder out there in terms of a perfect for us, very few player's id prefer in truth.

Can't see their board sanctioning his sale even if Pep wants him gone. If he was available though, hell yeah.

Agreed, he's a monster who could play a 442.

Not many that can play the 2CM's in the PL position nowadays, Juventus boys would do well also, one of Vidal, Marchisio or Pogba alongside him, not that I ever see it happening, but that's how I'd compliment Bastien, with another all rounder.

Should go for him if Bayern are dumping him. Pep might prefer Martinez in that role, he's more similar to Busquets.

Even if he's coming here just to collect his pension he'd still be far better than anything we have in the middle.

If available we surely buy him. Wonderful player and only 30 in August. So to me his age means nothing. If he wants to join us I'd welcome him with open arms as so much better than any midfielder we have on our books.

He'd make an immediate impact on our team just like a 29 year old RVP did. Would be a dream signing. Bayern may sell as it has been said he doesn't fit into Pep's game. Don't think it's stupid to think this might happen to be honest.

LvG did say that age doesn't matter to him, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was serious in trying to sign him.

Besides, 29 for a midfielder is hardly a swansong kind of age since his game no longer relies on pace as much. Pirlo is still the business at 35.

I think Schweinsteiger would be a brilliant signing to strengthen the midfield. Then we should sign Strootman in January and we would have a brilliant midfield.
I think signing Schweinsteiger and maybe someone like Jordy Clasie would do until we signed Strootman in January.

I 100% agree, I'd still like to see someone world class sign i.e Bastian and a fresh face like Clasie or another to join. I really do not want us going into next season with our current lot.

If he's somehow anyhow available we should take him by the hand and bring to OT.

Can't see it happening but if we somehow get him I'll be beyond myself. :)

On one hand I'd cream myself if we signed him, on the other given how we ended up with a total lemon last time we signed an injury prone Bayern midfielder.....

I would think Bayern selling Schweinsteiger would be be akin to us selling Giggs/Scholes (when they were 29 or 30). No chance of it happening.
They have many better options on his position at Bayern while we didn't have anyone as good as Giggs or Scholes when they were in their late 20's. I don't think Pep can guarantee him that he will play a lot next season. He could still be one of the best players at another club, for example at United so there is a strong reason why he should ask for leave. I'd love him here, he is a monster!

For a fee of ~10m as a short term solution it should be a no brainer to be fair. He's still a very good player and you could do with another experienced head in midfield and the team overall actually considering Giggs, Ferdinand and Vidic have left the 11. He'll basically replace Carrick and slot in beside whoever you choose as your long term solution at CM. I'm beginning to reluctantly resign myself to the fact that Fellaini probably won't get a fair chance (Although i hope he does as he was average in your worst season for an age, where everyone else was also average or poor, apart from a select few e.g Januzaj), but he'll at least be able to be a squad player. He'd be a great player to look up to as a youngster to learn from as-well.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Pep make a big name axing with someone who doesn't suit his system.

Selling Bastian would make a big statement by the boar in backing Pep. He's an institution at Bayern.

Great player but I think he's best years are behind him. Also can't see what his motivation would be to join us at this stage of his career. Funny cause he's one of those players that I can see wearing any other shirt than BM.....

His best years aren't behind him. He is in his prime. He is what 29 going to be 30 soon? He has got at least 3 good years in him. His motivation? Maybe a new challenge? He has won everything there is to win with Bayern.

The reason I doubt this isn't pep, it's the bayern board! They're always very reluctant to sell their German stars, I can't recall the last time bayern sold a German star other than ballack
