Bastian Schweinsteiger

No, we have more chance of signing Messi, Xavi as well as Iniesta from Barcelona than getting Schweinsteiger.

He's NOT for sale, has signed an extension. It's beyond me why this is even being discussed here.

Absolutely. It would be like Bayern would want to sign Giggs or Neville a few years ago

But signing an extension does not mean shit! That does not mean the player is not up for sale.

What a dumb bump.

It was like four threads down from the top. It is not like I bumped it from the third page. Plus I was banned for two days. I was dying to say something in the transfer forum. That is why.

:wenger:

Just out of interest but why couldnt it happen? I dont deny that an extension makes it unlikely as well as the fact German view Bayern and United as on par but its certainly not impossible is it?

Do yourself a favour.....Let it go Jason please! Bayern are not a selling club when it comes to their best players. Just like we are not either with our best players. If Bayern came in with a 60 million bid for Rooney then we will not sell to them as he is too important to us. Its the same with us bidding for Schweinsteiger or Ribery etc. Schweinsteiger is their most important player, has just signed a massive new contract with them and is settled in Germany. So next time you go for a wank....dont think about this player in a Utd shirt as it will never happen.

Bayern Munich midfielder - and reported Manchester United target - Bastian Schweinsteiger has not ruled out the possibility of leaving the Allianz Arena.

The 26-year-old has also been linked with AC Milan and, according to reports in Italy, a bid from the Rossoneri for Schweinsteiger could be imminent.

And, when questioned about a potential move overseas, the Germany international left the door open to an eventual transfer.

He told Gazetta dello Sport: "I have a contract until 2015, but in football you never know."

United, meanwhile, are alleged to have identified Schweinsteiger as a possible replacement for Paul Scholes, who lowered the curtain on an illustrious Old Trafford career last season.

Wesley Sneijder and Luka Modric have been touted as potential successors to the 36-year-old but, according to former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson, United should focus their attention on Schweinsteiger.

I'd prefer him to Wesley...

But then again I'd prefer to sleep with Olivia Wilde rather than Megan Fox...

I wonder which has a greater chance of happening?

Besides Messi, Ronaldo, and maybe one or two others I cant think of a more perfect player to sign

Has the resemblance in terms of height, touch, and can make the late runs into the box to make the impact.

But... nah.... the hair is just not right.

Of course, no one can replace Paul Scholes.

Then, if Bastian Schwiensteiger is in our midfield from the next season onwards, tell Barcelona it's game on.

 haha, perfect analogy!

With Carrick, Anderson and Fletcher left for the central midfield spots, we could use both though...

(I wouldnt play Giggs (will lack energy/stamina) or Park (lacks physique) in central midfield and I havent seen enough of Cleverly to judge and Gibson will hopefully be sold...)

btw: there's no reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen, but hey, its a slow summer...

probably for half of the games and than at most 60mins... i reckon we should not rely on him to much... will prob be his last year as well...

When Bayern say a player is not for sale then they will not be sold or at least a year and will only be sold a year later if they kick up a huge fuss. Schweini is not going anywhere. Seems like everyday there is some new football website coming out and trying to make a name for themselves by making wild rumours that give transfer numpties a hard on. Give me football FFS

Giggs frequently covered more ground than anyone else and was judged as the fittest player in the team just two years ago when he had the most impressive beep test result.

But Fergie himself admitted many times that we have to look after him carefully and we usually try to avoid playing him more than once a week. As fit as he is, he'll be frequently rested.

Masterstroke by SAF, employing Lawrenson as Chief Transfer Advisor

If it annoys people to read it when they know he won't be coming then just don't open the thread...

Impressive. Often the perception with older midfielders is that they lose stamina quickly once they hit their 30s. However in many cases they continue to cover the same distance around the park and it is acceleration/pace which is lost rather than cardiovascular endurance.

Helps when you're nailing your yoga instructor every other day, I suppose

Resemblance in height? He's 183 cm, or 6 feet.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is eyeing Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Sport says frustration in negotiations for Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder and Chelsea's pursuit of Tottenham's Luka Modric has led Ferguson to consider Schweinsteiger as his prime midfield signing for the summer.

The Germany international has been a long-term target for Ferguson and has admitted an ambition in the past to play for United.

A genuine midfield general, Schweini refused to shut the door on leaving Bayern last month, despite the claims of new coach Jupp Heynckes.

AC Milan have also expressed interest in the midfielder in recent weeks.

Ferguson sees Schweinsteiger as the leader his midfield needs following the retirement of Paul Scholes.

 mehr Schweini bitte!

Every midfielder we are linked with is "Fergie sees soandso as the replacement for Scholes in CM".

Schweiny to me is the best possible fit for United of any CM out there. He is strong and will be able to hack it against the rough and tumble of the PL and technically savvy to excel in Europe as well. I usually believe it when they say anything is possible in football but, alas I don't see this as ever being possible.

It's a coded message for us transfer tarts from SAF: 'Schweinsteiger' really means 'Signed Sneijder'.
